Recently, I graduated from Indiana State University in May 2016 with a Bachelor’s degree in Safety Management. I completed the degree in three years; while interning at least 30 hours per week and being a part of Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity. As part of the Fraternity, I held the Health and Safety Chair and Sergeant-at-Arms positions. Commonplace amongst both positions was the welfare of fellow Fraternity members. We often conducted philanthropy events such as Change for Change and Fire Truck Pull benefiting the less fortunate families of the Terre Haute area. As a freshman, I took part in an Alternative Spring Break trip to New Orleans, Louisiana. Our primary focus was redeveloping the communities’ confidence in humanity through educational assistance and agricultural rebuilding still remaining from hurricane Katrina.
My first internship was with the Environmental Safety Office of Indiana State University. With being young in the Safety Management major, this position developed a sense of practical experience alongside the coursework. I’m currently in my last semester of the Masters of Science in Occupational Safety Management program. Throughout the program I have been working full-time and completing coursework in the evenings. Responsibilities include building inspections, accident investigations, customer support, safety training, and trends analysis. I manage the Ergonomics and Pressure Vessels programs while providing assistant management duties to Personal Protection Program, Weight Handling Equipment, and Sight Conservation. Combining the experience and opportunities I have at NSWC Crane, I’m interested in doing a trends analysis of office ergonomics as a field study project.
