Pierre De Fermat was a French mathematician .Who was considered as the one of the best mathematician of seventeenth century. He did a number of contributions some of which were towards calculus, number theory etc. During his life time Fermat got less recognition despite being a brilliant mathematician of that time but it his was his papers which he kept sharing with his friends due to which it kept his work alive otherwise his work would have been lost. Despite being small town amateur mathematician he single handedly invented modern number theory. Fermat also did contribution in analytical geometry and in the field of optics in which he had a very strong interest in maxima and minima and by applying this method he made this point that the …show more content…

Pierre De Fermat is one of those mathematicians who was given credit which led him to the development of modern calculus and early progress in number probability. Fermat was first mathematician to evaluate integral of general power function and with the help of this power function Fermat was able to reduce the evaluation to the sum of geometric series. Later this formula was used by Newton and Leibniz and with the help of this formula both were able developed the fundamental theorem of calculus independedly. Apart from that Fermat was also known to formulated which was the most famous and unsolved problem in history of mathematics. Fermat along with his friend Pascal helped the mathematicians a very important concept in basic probability which was revolutionary back in 1654 .He said that the equation Xn + Yn = Zn has no in trivial positive integer solution when n which is an integer the value greater than 2.More than 300 years passed but no proof or solution was ever found. Fermat throughout his life also invented a range of theorem .which include his famous “Last Theorem” which was left unproven after his death in 1665 which puzzled many mathematicians for 350 …show more content…

Apart from that Fermat also identified a subset of numbers which were later known as “FERMAT NUMBERS” which are in the form of less than 2 or in the form of power of 2.Some of his numbers are 21 + 1 = 3 , 24 + 1 = 17 and 216 + 1 = 65,537 but surprisingly these are all prime numbers which are also known as “FERMAT PRIMES”. But all the Fermat primes which has been identified over the years are not prime numbers . In his contribution towards math Fermat also invented a factorization method which was known as “FERMAT FACTORIZATION METHOD” as well as the proof technique of indefinite descent. Which he later used to prove “FERMAT’S RIGHT ANGLE THEOREM” which includes as a corollary Fermat’s last theorem. Fermat was also the first mathematician to invented the two square theorem and polygonal number theorem in which it was stated that each number is sum of 4 square ,5 pentagonal and 3 triangular numbers. From his contributions Fermat also presented some practical example of his work also like for example one of his theorem called the “LITTLE THEOREM” is used for testing large prime numbers and due to which it also serve as a basis for the codes which protect our credit cards in today’s technological
