Blaga claims that accomplishing the harmony between intimate life and job responsibility is essential to both physical state and welfare of a worker. First, there is work and on the other hand, there is family. It can be hard for pilots when they spend so much time away from home, especially when they have families at home waiting for them. Work, as well as family, are both factors necessary for an individual and sufficient quality time must be devoted to each of them. In some cases, work can become as important, or even more significant than family. It takes a lot of energy to try to be the best in your line of work. In order to become a pilot one has to obtain a basic commercial pilot license – CPL (A). The terms of taking an exam CPL (A) are the following: “the person has to be at least 18 years old, medical certificate class I (Appendix 2) and a minimum of 200 hours of flying on airplanes after the training program” (Zavod Republike Slovenije za zaposlovanje 2010). Afterward, they may qualify as a flight instructor or they can become a flight controller. Their work is carried out in the so-called cockpit where there are usually two pilots. The captain takes full responsibility for the safety and security on board whereas the role of the co-pilot is to assist him. Pilots spend approximately 60 to 100 hours a month in the air where “they face a wide variety of radiation, noise and vibrations“ (Zavod Republike Slovenije za zaposlovanje 2010). With all the risks they face daily, there are many advantages and benefits that come with being an airline pilot: you are enabled to meet new people, different cultures and to see all parts of the world. Their profession requires four substantial characteristics: accuracy, consistency, strong leadership competencies and good communication skills. In unpredictable situations, they are obliged to take right and quick decisions in order to ensure the safety of all passengers on the plane. Every year they have to pass a special medical checkup where their physical condition and mental health are examined.
