Pitbull Stereotypes
Dogs have been in the lives of humans for centuries. The bond between dogs and people is the purest most loyal love of all. Dogs impact the lives of their humans in numerous ways such as bringing joy with their cute fuzzy faces, giving us kisses when day our day was bad, they even do their part in keeping the community safe, and alert us of dangers in our homes. Dogs try so hard to please humans and their lives as domesticated animals depend on us. We decide their fate. Unfortunately, some dogs are trained and used for fighting. Because of dog fighting, the images of certain breeds become tainted with terrible stereotypes that generalize the entire breed of dog as a dangerous, blood thirsty monster.
The most popular example of this is pit bulls. The growing hype of pit bull stereotypes is becoming a real issue with shelters and pit bull owners. Shelters are over flooded with pit bulls resulting in approximately 2,800 pit bull euthanizations a day or 1 million a year and only one in every 600 pit bulls finding a

What people have yet to understand is dogs can not be generalized by a breed. Dogs are individual, and do have individual faults genetically and from how they’ve been treated in their lifetime. Its likely that a dog who has experienced trauma in their lifetime will attack unpredictable but the dog nor the breed is at blame for that. Humans need to realize that though our dogs love us and are a part of the family, they are still dogs and not humans. Dogs of any breed will relate human nature to dog nature and may take normal human signals as aggressive dog signals. According to sugarloafanimalhospital.com.au, dog aggression could be result of misread signals exchanged between human and dog or trauma from the dogs past. Dog attacks are explained within the individuality of the dog and can not be categorized to a specific breed like pit
The media has led many to believe that pit bulls are a dangerous breed that can unravel at any time, attacking anything that crosses their path. However, like most other dogs, pit bulls were genetically bred for a specific purpose and are products of their environment. The history of this breed is a long and extensive account of what was once a beloved canine, too what is now a vilified breed. Even though they are labeled “Pit bulls” they are in fact not a specific breed of dog. Being a mixture of Bull terriers, the American Staffordshire terrier, and the Staffordshire terrier, Pit bulls were bred to be working dogs and family companions prior to being bred to bull bait (restraining a bull with a rope tied to an ironed stake that gave him only a few feet to move.
At any point it is never a dogs fault, it is the owner's fault. Responsible ownership, ownership period, and " America's darling" are all reasons why it is never the dog's fault. Responsible ownership comes in handy here because responsible ownership can prevent any aggressive acts. Ownership comes into this category because ownership is what's makes the difference with the dog. "America's Darling" is what Pitt bulls were called, they were called this because back then when someone saw or heard of a pit bull they didn't think "oh no danger", but instead it brought good, happy thoughts to the people's mind.
For years, Pit Bulls have been bred to be aggressive and fight. One myth of a Pit Bulls is their lock jaw. If you compare their skull to any other dog breed they all have the same characteristics. Additionally, a Pit Bull that is aggressive towards other dogs isn’t necessarily going to be aggressive towards humans. Human aggression and dog aggression are two different things that should not be mixed up.
Pit bulls owners and potential owners of this amazing breed are in awe of this controversy, because we see no wrong in our pets. Although, there have been numerous attacks on humans and other animals by
Also, pit bulls are misunderstood because people think that pit bulls are born ready to fight. For example, according to the website 5 Reasons Pit Bulls Are Misunderstood, pit bulls are not born ready to rip into another dog, animal, or human being. It's not the dog's fault but the person who trained it, people pittbulls to fight for
Most American citizens stereotype the breed of pitbull dogs as mean and aggressive animals. Their history of dog fighting has given them a negative profile unlike any other (Pit bull). With the proper training pit bulls are loyal and protective dogs. Pitbulls are just like any other jubilant dog.
In conclusion, pit bulls aren't such dangerous dogs after all. Pit bulls have somewhat of a damage to history. There's reasons behind that though so people can judge pit bulls for being the "bully breed" but they're really not. We can fix the way people think by showing them how pit bulls can be "mean"and how they
Across the nation animal shelters are flooded with unwanted or homeless dogs, 74% of them being pitbulls. It is strongly believed, by some, that animals are not born mean they are made mean. Many people like to jump to the conclusion that Pitbulls and similar dogs, are naturally mean, but in reality they make the best family pets if treated
Baiting was outlawed in 1835, which caused people to start setting their dogs off on each other. This cruel treatment wasn’t outlawed until 2008 (ASPCA, n.d.). This rough past is the only thing people go off of when they look at a Pit Bull. Little do they know that these dogs are just loyal to their masters and want to please them. They were not bred to attack their families but for a cruel sport that humanity has created (Johnson, 2012).
Before getting into persuading readers; they should know why pit bull breeds get such a bad rap, as well as where the breed came from. Today’s pit bull is a descendant of the original English bull -baiting dog (Position). These dogs were bred to bite and hold bulls, bears, and other larger animals around the face and
Third, Pitbulls can be particularly prone to defensiveness and aggression when they believe their families are in serious danger. Some breeds of dogs, like Basenjis or many types of hounds, will barely give their parents playtime. So when a threat occurs, they won't be coming to your side to defend you. But not Pitbulls. Pitbulls have been bred for generations to work closely alongside owners.
From a movie it was stated “Good dragons under control of bad people do bad things” (Time). That is the same thing for pit bulls they just need to be trained the right way. Being trained properly is what causes them to be so great with children (Melanie). People say that “pain and fear” are the two main causes of pit bulls attacking and biting (Time). Some have heard of pit bulls that are “as gentle as lambs” and that just shows how easy they would be to work with.
Make a claim 3: Pit bulls are very active, energetic, and playful. Evidence 3a: Puppies love to play with kids or any other family pets. Evidence 3b: All dogs love to play fetch, tug of war, and even go for a walk or run with their owner. Evidence 3c: Puppies are funny to watch when they are running around with their outgoing personality.
More than likely the people that get this type of dog would just train a different breed of dog such as german shepherds to do the same thing therefore, “banning pit bulls would make no progress”. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/should-pit-bulls-be-banned. “If it was determined that pit bulls were 5 times more likely to attack than any other dogs, that could mean that 5 out of 1 million pit bulls will attack in their lifetime instead of 1 out of 1 million. The point is the evidence that shows pit bulls are more likely to attack than other dogs is misinterpreted to mean that they are likely to attack”. http://www.opposingviews.com/i/should-pit-bulls-be-banned.
All dogs can be mean and vicious, not just pit bulls. Most people think that as soon as they see a pit bull it 's going to attack you for no reason. But really pit bulls are born very nice and efficient to people. Other people train dogs to fight not just pit bulls. In fact, the top ten dog breeds have dogs, you wouldn 't think would be on it, Pitbull, Rottweiler, Husky, German Shepherd, Alaskan malamute, Doberman, chow chow, great dane many more.
