This recent controversy has raised questions concerning the ethicality and legality of fetal tissue donations and research. It has also spurred debate over the government’s role in funding and authorizing clinics like Planned Parenthood, especially given the ideologically divise nature of the services it performs. As a result of this controversy, advocates and legislators are pushing for changes in federal policy, particularly changes that will defund or significantly reduce funding for Planned Parenthood. Such action could have significant effects on the conduction of scientific research, women’s rights, and women’s access to affordable and accessible health care nationwide. This paper examines the recent Planned Parenthood/fetal tissue research
With the attack on Planned Parenthood and regarding the video scandal which blew Planned Parenthood in the spotlight once again, is the problem its self that checking the facts are number one. People are so quick to see a video about an unborn child and act, without checking the facts. With Planned Parenthood they do perform abortions, yes but safe legal abortions they do use tissue and organs from these abortions to do lifesaving scientific research they also don’t mention in the video that the patients and the woman and families they make the decision to donate the fetal tissue, for research “this research should be honored not attacked and demeaned. “ What the facts don’t show in this edited video, which actually the video is over three
One of the most effective and crucial programs for women’s health is currently under attack by the so-called president of the United States, Donald Trump. In an attempt to convince the people that he is willing to stand up for everyone, including the unborn, but instead, Mr. Trump is oppressing women and taking away their rights as human beings. Without Planned Parenthood, 2.5 million men and women would be left without affordable, high-quality health care. One in five women have visited a Planned Parenthood in their lifetime. The fact that all of the care and help Planned Parenthood gives can all be lost due to something as petty as abortion services is almost laughable.
Planned Parenthood is more than just an abortion clinic When people think of Planned Parenthood, their mind goes straight to abortion. Americans believe that all Planned Parenthood does is perform abortions, which is a very flawed misconception. The non-profit organization does a lot more than that, they promote safe sex, prevent unplanned pregnancies, provide preventive care and screening for cervical and other cancers. I think that it’s important that we continue funding Planned Parenthood because without it women in America will be left without important resources.
Planned Parenthood v. Casey was a Supreme Court case that originated in the area of Southeastern Pennsylvania when one of these nationwide organizations, Planned Parenthood, decided to argue against the limitations put into place regarding abortion by Governor Robert P. Casey stating that they violated the laws established in Roe v. Wade (“Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey”). The case began in the US District Court of Eastern Pennsylvania which declared all of the provisions to be unconstitutional; however, the State Court of Appeals reversed this decision claiming that all of the provisions except for spousal notification were constitutional. The case then arrived to the Supreme Court in 1991, and a final decision was
The Constitution was written to give the United States government structure. The Constitution grants rights to the federal government, but also to the individual people. The Griswold v Connecticut case first came about from a law enacted in 1879 by the state of Connecticut. The law stated “Any person who uses any drug, medicinal article or instrument for the purposes of preventing conception shall be fined not less than forty dollars or imprisoned not less than sixty days”. This prevented people in the state of Connecticut to be unable to use any type, or method of birth control.
The goal is to defund Planned Parenthood for a year which means tax payers would stop paying. They want this to stop because this organization supports abortions and they are responsible for more than 300,000 of them per year in which they receive hundreds of millions tax payer dollars (http://www.focusonthefamily.com/socialissues/promos/defund-planned-parenthood). As I’m thinking about the steps in how a bill becomes a law, there are many factors that can help/hurt it. First off, a bill is introduced by a senator or representative (pg. 195).
Numerous attempts have been made to define the term fetus. Scholars have attempted to use both biological and psychological aspects, some have gone further to outline characteristics and conditions that define a fetus (Garrett et al., 2011). Others have tied the developmental aspects related to viability, birth and conception. The United States Supreme Court definition provides an alternate decision. The case of Planned Parenthood vs. Casey and Roe vs. Wade best defines a fetus in terms of viability (Nocon, 2010).

In light of the recent “controversy” surrounding Bernie Sanders and Planned Parenthood, I feel that it’s necessary to point out the mans incredibly consistent record in support women’s issues and the right to choose. Bernie Sanders is a staunch believer in the fact that women should have the fundamental right to control their bodies when it comes to sexual and reproductive health. He’s received both a 0 percent rating from The National Right to Life Committee (NRLC), and a 100 percent rating from NARAL Pro-Choice America. According to The NRLC, Sanders has voted against the pro-life position more than 100 times in his federal legislative career. Let me just quote a couple of things that The NRLC notes about Sanders pro-choice
Hello Mr. Loa, When I originally chose my topic for writing project two, i was stuck between the effects Barbie has on our self-esteem and the federal funding of Planned Parenthood. I chose the topic about Barbie because I figured no one else would do it and it wouldn 't be redundant, but because it is such a unique topic, I 'm having trouble finding articles on it. Would it be okay if I changed my topic to Planned Parenthood, which had ample articles on it? And if I am allowed to change it, would I have to send you another topic proposal memo? Samantha
ON September 19th, the House of Representatives voted to defund Planned Parenthood. Mike DeBonis for the Washington explains in House votes to defund Planned Parenthood, but will that help avert a shutdown? the events that occurred in the House. Two bills were passed, the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act and Defund Planned Parenthood Act. Despite the beneficial projects Planned Parenthood has participated in, riots have broken out against the facility. According to The Daily Signal, “Students for Life of America organized ‘Women Betrayed’ rallies nationwide to protest taxpayer funding for the nation’s largest abortion provider” (Scanlon). The protests could eventually lead to a decrease in funding for Planned Parenthood. The riots do not only affect the business, they also affect the patients. On June 28, 2014, a six-hour, non-violent protest broke out in front of the Boston Planned Parenthood.
Lead by the conservative politicians, their aims have been to cut federal funding so that Federal dollars are not going towards abortions. Annas and Mariner (2011) discuss the issues presented to Barack Obama when attempting to pass the Affordable Care Act. He spoke in 2010, reassuring the American people that federal money would not be spent on abortions (p. 1590). With the recent election in America, Trump and the Republican government will bring up issues involving funding to Planned Parenthood. Trump’s Vice-President, Mike Pence has been a strong advocate against Planned Parenthood for several years (Ziegler, 2012, p. 724).
About 10,000 people assembled at the State House in Columbia, South Carolina, to join in "Stand with God, Pro-Family Rally," with Republican presidential candidates Ted Cruz and Rick Perry along with several US senators and pastors from across the state. The hot topics at the rally were religion and the issues of abortion and same-sex marriage, with participation of people from neighboring states of North Carolina and Georgia. "Our nation is in crisis right now. But I want to tell you there is a spirit of revival that is sweeping South Carolina, that is sweeping the country.
