Miranda Carpenter Hypothesis There are many events in today’s society that has both positively, and negatively affected the consumers. One recent issue, is the plan to cut funding to Planned Parenthood Agencies. That being said, it is easy to depict that the number of unplanned pregnancies will increase, resulting in a higher number of Medicaid recipients. One sector of the debate on cutting the funding is the assumption of a selfish government, taking funding away from female medical services. To qualify and receive Medicaid, one of the criteria’s are to be poor and pregnant, which is also state funded. The funding cut from Planned Parenthood, will be used in other areas involving female medical services. Some are also wondering what
Planned Parenthood is more than just an abortion clinic When people think of Planned Parenthood, their mind goes straight to abortion. Americans believe that all Planned Parenthood does is perform abortions, which is a very flawed misconception. The non-profit organization does a lot more than that, they promote safe sex, prevent unplanned pregnancies, provide preventive care and screening for cervical and other cancers. I think that it’s important that we continue funding Planned Parenthood because without it women in America will be left without important resources.
With the attack on Planned Parenthood and regarding the video scandal which blew Planned Parenthood in the spotlight once again, is the problem its self that checking the facts are number one. People are so quick to see a video about an unborn child and act, without checking the facts. With Planned Parenthood they do perform abortions, yes but safe legal abortions they do use tissue and organs from these abortions to do lifesaving scientific research they also don’t mention in the video that the patients and the woman and families they make the decision to donate the fetal tissue, for research “this research should be honored not attacked and demeaned. “ What the facts don’t show in this edited video, which actually the video is over three
It is vital that Congress change course so that these, as well as similar programs, be expanded. In particular, we need to protect federal funding for Planned Parenthood, which provides important preventive services for women such as mammograms and conception. In Maryland, more than 40,000 people rely on Planned Parenthood for health care every year and thousands of Maryland students receive an accurate and complete education about reproductive health from Planned Parenthood educators.4 The recent attacks on Planned Parenthood show just how far some will go to prevent women from taking control of their health and well-being. In Congress, I will fight against Republican efforts to defund Planned Parenthood, and I will never let the government come between a woman and her doctor.
2. There are other approaches through which the government can provide affordable/free contraceptive coverage to female employees, without involvement from the Little Sisters and their health
When Birth Control first hit the market in the 1960’s, it took off in a way no one expected, not even the doctors. In the book, “America and the Pill”, Elaine Tyler May focuses on the revolution of birth control and the effects it’s had on society. One of May’s main arguments were that “the pill” gave women new power they didn’t have before. This new invention paved the way for women’s right’s in the United States.
The goal is to defund Planned Parenthood for a year which means tax payers would stop paying. They want this to stop because this organization supports abortions and they are responsible for more than 300,000 of them per year in which they receive hundreds of millions tax payer dollars (http://www.focusonthefamily.com/socialissues/promos/defund-planned-parenthood). As I’m thinking about the steps in how a bill becomes a law, there are many factors that can help/hurt it. First off, a bill is introduced by a senator or representative (pg. 195).
Imagine the long-term savings realized by communities around the country, produced by cutting over inflated Planned Parenthood
Hello Milwaukee volunteer family! I am Marie Wojtan and I am the new Public Affairs Intern. I am a senior at Marquette University where I am double majoring in Corporate Communication and Women and Gender Studies. I am so excited to be interning at Planned Parenthood for many different reasons.
The majority of the organization’s patients depend on Planned Parenthood for their health care. They play an important responsibility in providing examinations for patients from Title X and Medicaid. Medicaid and Title X are social health care programs for families and individual with limited resources due to their financial situation. It was stated that, “60% of Planned Parenthood’s patients depends on health care, such as Medicaid and Title X in order to pay for their primary care doctor... If they did not have Planned Parenthood available, they would not be able to educate themselves and attend gynecologist appointments, regularly” (How Federal Funding Works at Planned Parenthood).
Planned Parenthood 2008 employee of the year, Abby Johnson, worked at a clinic in Texas for eight years and served as director of the clinic for more than two years and during this time she experienced first-hand, the cold-hearted acts of the Planned Parenthood organization. Johnson started at Planned Parenthood because she was passionate about helping poor women receive the medical treatment they deserve. It was for this same reason that she left Planned Parenthood with a complete change of heart because she realized the real drive behind the organization. After leaving Planned Parenthood, Abby Johnson wrote an article titled “Exposing the Planned Parenthood business model” and in this article she outlines the things she saw that eventually turned her against Planned Parenthood, starting with the lack of care for women’s health and safety.
Pence argues that, “in offering this amendment today is that millions of pro-life Americans should not be asked to fund the leading abortion provider in the United States” (Ziegler, 2012, p.724). With politicians such as Pence by Trump’s side, it is possible that defunding will be a reality for Planned Parenthood
This topic is significant because this program provides health services to about 3 million people in the country and supports services for over one million people outside the United States. Planned Parenthood is the largest single provider of reproductive health services in the United States. It provided 3.6 million contraceptive services, 4.5 million HIV and other STD related services, about 1 million breast, cervical, and other cancer related services, over 1 million pregnancy tests and prenatal services, over 300,000abortion services, and over 100,000 other services, for a total of 10.6 million discrete services. The majority of federal funding comes from Medicaid. Abortion is what is driving the defunding discussion because recent videos
Planned Parenthood is used for so much more than just abortions. People are unaware of the good that Planned Parenthood does in the United States. Planned Parenthood is around for the sake of people who are suffering from poverty. They allow people to come up with a plan to help with payments or if a person is eligible they can fill out an application to get the organization’s services for free without a co-payment. This form of payment is funded through Medicaid and is called Family Planning Benefit Program (“Who Are We”).
Last year Planned Parenthood affiliates around the country received $528.4 million in a combination of government funds. The funds came from the federal, state, and in some cases local governments. This money was given to Planned Parenthood for everything but abortions. People however are under the impression that all that money goes to abortions. They fail to realize that federal dollars are not used, and cannot be used to provide an abortion.
Background There are ongoing debates about abortion and they are very interesting because people come up with different worldviews. For Instance the Christian worldview abortion is forbidden, because it is against the commandments of God. In the postmodern worldview laws which are against or not supporting abortion are not acceptable. People who are against abortion are protecting lives of the unborn babies and the Christian worldview. Those who are for the idea of abortion are protecting women rights to choose and the postmodern worldview.
