Planned Parenthood is one of the nation 's largest and leading health care provider that offers affordable health care to many trivialized individuals and families. This institution ensures Americans have access to a health care system for the unfortunate while still providing quality care. Although the media and numerous reports have brought up issues in regards to Planned Parenthood, many of the objections to the Institution is focused on one subject at hand and not the overall mission alone. The issues in regard to Planned Parenthood is the opposition that the government should not eliminate funding for this organization due to the abortion services provided. However, Planned Parenthood offers many other services that without this Institution many people would be without affordable quality health care.
Historical Background Planned Parenthood is a nonprofit organization that was initially established in 1916 to provide reasonable health care for women (Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2018). The Planned Parenthood Federation of America has been recognized as a 501(c)(3) since April 22, 1922 ((Planned Parenthood Federation of America, 2018). Over time, the organization has expanded its efforts toward men and young people across the world. "I believe that the work [Planned Parenthood is] doing in taking back control of our individual bodies, of declaring reproductive freedom to be a fundamental human right, is at least as important as freedom of speech or freedom of assembly." -Gloria Steinem
I am a social work student at Frostburg State University and I have completed a policy analysis on the defunding of Planned Parenthood. I oppose defunding of Planned Parent because I believe it serves a good purpose in communities. Defunding of Planned Parenthood would remove all federal funding and allow states to take away state funding from them. Without the 500 million dollar yearly funding that Planned Parenthood receives they will have to shut down a numerous amount of their clinics and many of the nine million clients will not have anywhere to go to for preventive and family planning services. In 2012, Texas stopped funding Planned Parenthood with state aid. Many women were affected by this decision and missed out on many important screenings,
Abortion Abortion is a medical way to end a pregnancy. It is performed at clinics or at home, with the latter being very dangerous. Methods practiced at clinics include getting the fetus vacuumed out, inducing a false and early labor, taking medicine to induce the fetus out. The safety of a procedure is completely dependant on the individual who is performing it. An unskilled medic will result in an unsafe procedure, and vise versa.
Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, decided to help spread knowledge about family planning after nursing a woman back to health from a botched abortion. Sanger would open her first birth control clinic on October 16th, 1916 in Brownsville, Brooklyn. She wouldn’t stop there. One hundred years later, 1 in 5 women visit Planned Parenthood in the United States to take advantage of their several services that they provide which include knowledge about contraceptives, STD tests and treatments, pregnancy tests, screenings for breast and cervical cancer, and more. About half of Planned Parenthood centers also provide abortions. All of which is paid for by government money.
The Planned Parenthood activist group justify their stance on protecting reproductive rights for mothers and providing free sexual and reproductive health services by claiming that their organizations efforts lead to the fundamental ideals of the historic authors John Locke, Edmund Burke, Adam Smith, and John Stuart Mill; life, liberty, and property.
Today, people take certain liberties that they are blessed with for granted. Americans often forget about the struggles people once faced and the fighters who made miracles happen. Among those fighters, a woman named Margaret Sanger blazed trails for the American woman.

Over the last few decades, managed health care has revolutionized the way medicaid beneficiaries treat essential healthcare services such as family planning and parenthood programs. The term managed care is a health insurance plan or system that allocates the provisions, quality and cost of caring for an individual. It has an significant role when it comes to providing health care services to medicaid members and the ways it’s utilized. Managed care plans create contracts with health care providers and medical institutions that help provide services at a lower and more affordable cost to their members. Additionally, managed care plans tend to pay health care providers directly so that it’s members don’t have to pay out of pocket for services
While providing health care may seem quite expensive, sacrifice made by young women comes at a greater price. Clearly, giving teenagers access to birth control is about exactly that control. Thus, Cory Gardner, a representative of the Republican Party, points out the importance of access of healthcare services to everyone at any time without any extra routine using the new campaign ad saying “The pill ought to be available over the counter, round the clock, without a prescription”. When, for example, Colorado offered teenagers and poor women free intrauterine devices and implants which can prevent pregnancy for several years, the birthrate among teenagers in the state fell by 40 percent from 2009 to 2013, while their rate of abortions fell by 42 percent, according to the Colorado
Recently, legislators have requested a massive audit of the organization, and others have demanded the total defunding of the organization. The history of Family Planning has been a long hard struggle, but ultimately it is valuable to the human rights of American people. The fact that Planned Parenthood provides abortion as a minor part of their services should not cause legislators to make it any less accessible. Planned Parenthood is valuable and funding should continue
The support Planned Parenthood provides, gives a reproductive justice framework. The service sand information the provide combats the “sidewalk consolers” who aim is to dissuade women from women from carrying out their reproductive right to choose what they can do with
Hello Milwaukee volunteer family! I am Marie Wojtan and I am the new Public Affairs Intern. I am a senior at Marquette University where I am double majoring in Corporate Communication and Women and Gender Studies. I am so excited to be interning at Planned Parenthood for many different reasons.
Unplanned Parenthood For decades, women’s rights have been compromised at the hands of the government a sector primarily composed of men. Even with the passing of Roe vs. Wade in 1973 declaring a women’s right to privacy of her body a new rival on the issue of abortion has garnered nationwide attention in light of a video released by an anti-abortion organization the Center for Medical Progress. The highly edited video depicting the sale of fetal tissue by a Planned Parenthood facility caused a grand upheaval among politics and the minds of millions of Americans but, in particular, led to the attempted defunding of Planned Parenthood for one year. The following cartoon claims that denying millions of women access to the affordable health services
