Rope Chair. From www.modernchairrestoration.com This is a chair made with Nylon or polypropylene ropes, otherwise known as ski rope. The first step is to tie the rope to a bar on the seat leaving a tail as long as the bar been knotted onto with a simple overhand knot. If it is a rectangular seat, this would be done on one of the short sides. Over the top of the opposite bar, under the bar, back to and up over the first bar the rope is run holding the tail along the length of the bar so the rope covers it as you work (Johnson). The second step is to wind the rope continuously around the two bars in this way. This will go on until the entire space is filled forming a dense mat in the middle and covering the two bars completely. While this is happening, the manufacturer ensures that the rows are tightly lined up against one another (Johnson). Over the top of the bar on the last row, the rope is looped and then passed under the bar next to it. This is the third step. While doing this, it is turned to the corner to start weaving across the strands. Under the strands the rope is run to the end. Then, the rope is pushed up in-between the bar and the strands on the other side. Over the bar, it is looped and brought back up in-between the bar and the strands. After that, it would be run across the top of the strands
