Every doctor has to go through residency. Residency takes place in an actual hospital, where you learn from surgeons in the specialty that you wish to serve under. To become a pediatric surgeon, you need to go through five years of general surgery residency, and two years of residency in pediatric surgery. Furthermore, certification from the American Board of Surgery is needed to become a surgeon in the United States
After surgery, the orthopaedic surgeon will continue to have contact with the patient with follow-up visits and follow the patient’s progress through rehabilitation. Both orthopaedic spine surgeons and neurosurgeons may further specialize. For example, some neurosurgeons specialize in brain surgery, while some orthopaedic spine surgeons specialize in pediatric spinal surgery. Both neurosurgeons and orthopaedic spine surgeons are qualified to treat back and neck problems. However it is important to understand each considered surgeon’s sub-specialty.

Pediatric interventional cardiology is a passion and a dream which I hope one day to realize. During my first pediatric residency training, I realized the depth of my interest in cardiology. I found pleasure and interest in all the pediatric cardiology rotations; however, cardiac catheterization, despite the limited sophistication with which it was performed, captivated me. As there were no training opportunities available back home and few interventional procedures can be done due to lack of experience in congenital interventional cardiology. Therefore, I decided to pursue a second pediatric residency training in the USA to allow me the opportunity for further training in pediatric cardiology and eventually congenital cardiac intervention.
To become an orthopedic surgeon, the physician must now overcome the next obstacle along the path….residency and specialization. For a physician to specialize in general surgery alone, he must complete five to six years of residency. Residency is where the physician is training in a specified area of medicine and making the important decisions regarding patient care. In residency, doctors work many hours and are on call most of the time. According to Dr. Heller, you don’t “get much sleep during residency, but most of us were young, energetic, and passionate about what [they] were doing, so [they] survived” (77).
Now, I know a great deal more on how to become an orthopedic surgeon. It requires different skills, of which the most important ones are how to treat minor injuries, to understand and use medical terms when needed, and to be able to recognize what type of injury the patient has. I would warmly recommend other students to take this internship, as they would be as welcomed by the doctors as I

The surgical field has many branches to it, and one of them is pediatrics. Pediatrics is one of the most difficult in the surgical field. Pediatric surgery is the hardest type in the medical field because of the complexities of operating on babies and young children; all surgical procedures must be mastered, each surgeon has to be able to deal with their emotions and all of the parents emotional needs. In the medical field almost all of the fields except for one work with fully grown patients but in the pediatric wing, they have to work with smaller patients. Babies and young children are much more difficult for surgeons to work with because the surgeon may not be able to see or fix the issue the patient was diagnosed.
