Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. Plastic bags are globally classified as toxic wastes. What is toxic waste? Toxic waste can be defined as a poisons waste material that can cause injury especially by chemical means (vocabulary, 2015). There are many types of toxic waste in the world, some of them can be recycled such as plastics, chemical like oil waste. The Swedish engineer Sten Gustaf Thulin invented the plastic bag in the 1960s. But it started to be more popular in 1980s. There are two type of plastic bag, the first called “Low Density Polyethylene” (LDPE) which means it is very flexible and natural milky color, the second type is “High Density Polyethylene” (HDPE), which means it is flexible …show more content…
Plastics bags are usually made from polyethylene and there are two types of polyethylene. Plastics bags are usually made from polyethylene C2H4, which is a harmful chemical. It can badly affect the environment, animals, and the human beings because of the dangerous chemicals that are made from. Moreover, polyethylene is hardly to recycle it because it needs years to be decomposed. Every one in the world use a plastic bag one day, but no one was thinking were these plastic bags might land? Each year, an estimated 500 billion to 1 trillion plastic bags are consumed worldwide. People use them every day for one time and throw them in the garbage. In fact, after throwing them they will stay on the earth around 1,000 years to break down. No body cares about that because they do not knows what can that lead to the environment and animal life. Statistics shows that plastic bags kill over 100,000 animal and a million seabirds every year (RUJNIC-SOKELE, M., & BARIC, G. 2014). Plastic bags cause a huge damage to the animal life. Animals cannot identify or know the difference between the things that they can eat it and the garbage. When any animal eats a plastic bag, it may stick in their stomach for the whole life, which is because animal's stomach cannot digest plastic. Moreover, some animals die due being suffocated after eating a small …show more content…
There is a solution for this problem by recycling it but it cost a lot of money. There are three options to recycle the polyethylene. The first way is mechanical recycling, which is basically uses physical means such as grinding, heating, end extruding to process polyethylene waste into new products. The second way is chemical recycling, which is basically uses chemical process to convert plastic waste into useful products, such as monomers for new plastics, fuels, or basic chemicals for general chemical production. Finally, energy recovery generates heat or electricity or both whether by direct incineration in municipal incinerators, or by replacing other fuels in blast furnaces, cement kilns, or power stations. Now we can recycle the HDPE and LDPE polyethylene to use them again in other product instate of throwing them in the garbage’s (RUJNIC-SOKELE, M., & BARIC, G. 2014). There are some replacements for the plastic bags; instead of using them we can use some bags that is made of material that is not harmful for the environment and animal life. There are bags that are made of clothes material and paper or any fiber that does not harm as the
The passage "The Plastic Pink Flamingo" was written by Jennifer Price details the popularity of the plastic pink Flamingo in the 1950's. The purpose of this essay "The Plastic Pink Flamingo" is to mock how Americans killed of the flamingos in the 1800's then ended up loving pink, plastic, fake, flamingos. Price uses ironic statements thought her essay, for instance she says that "Americans had been flocking to Florida and returning home with Flamingo souvenirs", which is ironic because in the next paragraph she writes she says that Americans had also " hunted Flamingos to extinction in Florida" in the 1800's. This is ironic because Americans killed Flamingos in Florida and they loved and practically worshiped Flamingos in
To recycle plastic one must use low temperatures. Since low temperatures are used residue is still left behind. If higher temperatures were used than toxins would be released. The truth is, plastic does not go away.
The company was trying to get hold of the 18.79% market share of garbage bags. It was one of the observation that Ad-Lider should opt for larger size bags as smaller volume does not adds to the utility that the handles are adding. The color preference for the product should be dark or black instead of giving it a transparent or lighter shade. The pricing of the product should also be kept in mind.
The article Bag Ban Bad for Freedom and Environment, by Adam B. Summers, argues that a ban placed on plastic grocery bags would be detrimental to the environment as well as to people. Summers builds his argument with the use of pathos, ethos, and statistics throughout the article. Summers uses pathos in the article to strengthen his argument. He is able to use two examples of the negative impacts of the possible ban on plastic bags.
Everyday people buy plastic things from the cafeteria, from plastic containers, lids on cups, and things as small as straws, and like 50% of plastic used it will be thrown away after one use. However, do you ever stop and think, what happens to the plastic? If you’re thinking that it just magically goes away you 're wrong. It will most likely end up in a landfill somewhere or in the ocean, and as you may think that your actions do not impact the world, think again. Everyone in the world has at least used one piece of plastic, adding to the problem of plastic pollution and helping certifying the terrifying statisticc that acooording to the 2018 Earth day video, “by 2050 there will more plastic in the ocean than fish”, which almost is impossible to think of.
Summers included multiple statements from well-informed and professional sources in this matter. One excerpt uses information provided by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency; this excerpt states that "plastic bags, sacks, and wraps of all kinds (not just grocery bags) make up only 1.6 percent of all municipal solid waste materials." The author included this statement to back up his earlier claim that plastic bags are not nearly as harmful to the environment as a good majority of people believe, and the fact that this information comes from the EPA makes Summers' information seem more reliable. He utilizes other sources such as professors from the University of Pennsylvania and George Mason University to back up his initial statement as
That 's 30 percent of the global total. The top countries most responsible for the plastic pollution issue are as following, China, The Philippines, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Egypt, Malaysia, Nigeria, and Bangladesh. What are we gonna do about it? Switch bag materials or don 't even provide bags just make the people bring their own bags and then they can continue to reuse them and then we won 't have the issue of plastic ending up in the ocean. Innocent animals we haven 't even discovered yet are dying because people can 't walk 10 feet to a trash can.
Look around, and try to find an everyday object that is not made out of plastic. You should find only a few. Plastic takes up more than 75% of our everyday items… And humans are facing the pollution that plastic is causing to the earth. There isn 't a realistic solution to this, because plastic is used in automobile tires, and also is used in electronic devices, silicon etc.
Imagine what happens if we keep on polluting our planet? What happens to our future generation? Since plastic takes years to biodegrade, if we keep polluting our environment with plastic, then our future generation will suffer from the environment around them. It also means that plastic and other trash will continue polluting the ocean, which can cause thousands of sea animals to go extinct, providing us with less source of food. Not only sea animals, but animals all over the world might extinct or become endangered because of pollution.
now producing alternative durable or reusable shopping bags from recycled material. Consumers are now driven to reuse shopping plastic bags and or buy the durable reusable shopping bags. The objective the Plastic bag levy was to serve to generate funding for the creation of a recycling company, which would collect and recycle the plastic carrier bags. This recycle entity is now in operation including other private owned plastic recycling companies who took up the opportunity and thus, employment has been created, as they are now companies taking up the opportunity to recycle all, the shopping plastics or producing alternative and cost effective plastic bags form non-synthetic fibers. Knowler (2008) reports that, following the levying of a charge
To begin, one way plastic bags should be banned is because they cause too much litter. For example, the International Coastal Cleanup in California has collected 7,825,319 plastic bags during the past twenty-five years (1). This shows
Do you think Alice Thornton’s proposal to decentralize the rules and procedures of Cosmo Plastics will work? Alice proposal of decentralizing the rules and procedures in Cosmo Plastics has a bigger chance of working out in a big company with different departments and great number of employees, because then daily operations and decision-making are divided into different authorities in the organization from the top managements, to the middle and lower level managements. Especially when you have this flexibility in work hours, because some departments in the company need constant attention and discipline from the side of employees, decentralizing is needed to divide the controlling process. On another scale, small groups will be formed, employees
Obviously the development of producing plastic went to quick and people did not think of a unified and sustainable way of how to dispose the huge amount of plastic. Unfortunately many countries decided to dispose all the garbage into the ocean but also ship accidents are a reason why so much plastic accumulated in our ocean. Every year more than eight million tons of plastic waste leak into the ocean. A big issue nowadays is that most of the plastic which is produced in one year is used to make disposable items of packaging or other short lived products that are discarded within a year (Philosophical Transactions of The Royal Society, 2009).
We must make the most to conserve, recycle and reuse whenever possible because the natural resources on our planet earth are limited. One of the most efficient ways to support recycling is to purchase products made from recycled materials. Maybe by now, you are not aware of how important this act can make a change to the world. However, the effort involves not only recycling existing products, but purchasing products that have already been recycled. Today, you will notice a lot products that are made from recyclable materials thanks to a strong push in green movement recent years.
These different types of bags just differ in design and
