Nick Carraway, a young lad from Minnesota, moves to New York in the summer of 1922 to learn about the bond business. He rents a small house almost like a shed in the West Egg district of Long Island. This is when he sees and starts to hear about his extravagant neighbour, Jay Gatsby. Jay Gatsby is a very secret and mysterious man, who throws huge and over the top parties all the time. A little later Nick decides to pay his cousin a visit. He drives out in the evening to visit Daisy Buchanan (His Cousin), and her husband, Tom. He enjois dinner with them and a friend of theirs, Jordan Baker. Jordan baker is a beautiful and cynical young woman who tells Nick about their mutual friends marriage. It turns out that Tom has a lover named “Myrtle Wilson”, who lives in the “Valley of ashes”, a unfriendly dumping ground between West Egg and New York City.

Just a little while after, Nick travels to New York City with Tom and Myrtle. It is a very weird experience for him as he experiments with a lot of alcohol, and moral issues. Not long after the experience, he receives an invitation to one of Gatsby´s huge and legendary parties. He meet up with Jordan Baker at the party and they start too look after Gatsby himself. Eventually they find him and he starts to open up about how he knew Daisy back in Louisville in 1917, and how he is deeply in love with her.
