Pneumonitis is a more general term that describes an inflammatory process in the lung tissue that may predispose or place the patient at risk for microbial invasion. Pneumonias are classified as community-acquired pneumonia (CAP), hospital-acquired (nosocomial) pneumonia (HAP), pneumonia in the immunocompromised host, and aspiration pneumonia. There is overlap in how specific pneumonias are classified, because they may occur in differing settings (Smeltzer , Bare, Hinkle , & Cheever , 2010). VAP: stands for Ventilator associated pneumonia is a type of HAP , which defined as a respiratory infection occurs in patients who are intubated and ventilator dependent that begins after 48 hours of intubation. Characterized by lung infiltration, fever, cough , white blood cells disturbances , excess secretions from respiratory tract and O2 levels drop …show more content…
Prevention and Early diagnosis of VAP is cost effective than treatment , there are strategies " for VAP prevention " VAP Bundle ". We can make this effective through increase awareness , knowledge and practice of health care workers toward methods that are used to prevent VAP , make good prognosis and positive outcomes . Intensive care nurses are the main elements for this , because Ventilator mainly located in closed wards - such as ICU and CCU - and those nurses are 1st line of health care team dealing with them
Deadlines are not met, a cynical or resentful attitude develops, a persistent sense of fatigue pervades both are the nurse’s personal and professional’s life. Today the proportion of acute patients entering the health care system through emergency
Goals & Interventions: 1. Nursing Diagnosis: Impaired gas exchange r/t exacerbation of COPD a.e.b. wheezing in patient’s throughout. Goals/outcomes: Patient will maintain adequate ventilation and have clear breath sounds within 24 hours upon auscultation. Goal met within 24 hours of initial respiratory assessment and maintained over a 24 hour period 10/26/2015.
Vaping is purportedly one of the best alternatives to cigarette smoking. A good number of former cigarette smokers have made the switch, flocking to shops like MistHub to try out various kits. But, not a lot of vapers have it easy on the first try. As soon as they start puffing on their new gizmos, they cough. It’s quite unfortunate that several people choose to leave vaping altogether just because of that incident.
Her medical diagnosis of ARDS from overdosing and pneumonia are the cause of her deteriorating condition. Then, it moves on to the first two primary nursing diagnoses of impaired gas exchange and risk for infection, followed by the lower ranked ones of impaired tissue integrity, anxiety, and finally decrease cardiac output. The case study then explored her expected outcomes, the interventions used for her primary two nursing diagnoses with literature reviews, and finally an evaluation of the plan of care. The learning from this patient is that it is not our place as nurses and medical personnel to judge, but to treat with fairness and compassion. It is easy to look down on this patient for her chronic illnesses that affect her long-term health, but she needs help, and now may never be back to her pre-hospitalized state.
The quicker the patient can come off of the ventilator the less of a risk for the patient. To wean a patient off the ventilator it is important to have a physician order and to do it slow to make sure the patient can maintain. Slowly stop the sedations and see if the patient can breathe over the ventilator. Breathing exercises are important with a patient who is intubated to be able to get off the vent sooner. Some reasons that a patient would need mechanical ventilation is respiratory distress, if a person can’t protect airway, overdose, or an injury to the
In this case, according to Bertch (2012), the various ways of ensuring quality such as following evidence-based practices should be mentioned. Additionally, the various safety measures that should be observed in the ICU unit should be focused on this critical step. Each of the new nurses should be given an opportunity to air her views on the best
INFLUENZA INTERNET RESEARCH: What is the influenza virus? The influenza virus is the flu, and there are three different types of the virus. Type A and B are human influenza that cause the seasonal spread of the virus. It comes almost every winter and fall her in the United States.
Influenza A virus is one of the most life threatening viral infection that cause respiratory illness. This virus usually affecting the nose, throat, airways and lungs. It is so contagious that it is easily spread by having contact with the saliva through coughing and sneezing. Influenza A virus can cause mild to severe illness such as fever, headache, sore, sneezing and nausea which accompanied with loss appetite, decreased activity and food intake. Apart of that, this infection is able to cause bronchitis and pneumonia.
Background Information: Patient R.S. is a 78-year-old male with a background in accounting; his career prior to retirement 13 years ago as an accountant. R.S. was diagnosed with COPD, community acquired pneumonia, impaired gas exchange, TURP and shortness of breath. R.S. appeared to be worn out and exhausted, he was wearing the hospital gown, had a Foley catheter in, two PICC lines bilaterally in the antecubital area, air compression legs wraps bilaterally, and heart monitor and was also wearing oxygen. He was very friendly and cooperative with having to have his vitals taken, medication given, and bed bath done. R.S. spoke in a low, happy voice.
As nurses, we must be excellent advocators of health to our patients. One way to be a good advocator is to be up to date will the new technology and Evidence Based Practice (EBP) resources to provide the care to the patient various states of illnesses. By teaching the community and instructing them of health promotion, nurses can maintain the people and community healthier with disease prevention, nutrition, and childcare. Advocacy is a trait must nurse have with it in, and including the patient’s financial and home safety into the plan of care based on the patient diagnosis, and make changes to that plan in order to achieve the highest level of health possible for the
Hospital-acquired infection can be referred to as a nosocomial infection. This is an infection that’s contracted from the staff and/or area of the healthcare facility/hospital. The staff can spread infection while dealing with the patient/s, as well as contaminated equipment, sheets from the bed and or air droplets can spread this infection. Sometimes the microorganism originates from the patient 's skin micro biota. Nosocomial pneumonia is a nosocomial bacterial infection that is mostly seen in surgical intensive care units (ICUs).
A requirement of the nursing excellence class is to develop a clinical practice project and implement it throughout the class. The purpose of this discussion is to introduce my clinical practice project including my QSEN competency. Next, I will go on to discuss how the CDC supports my project. Following this I will explain areas for further research and finally concluding my paper with a proposed solution. Health care associated infections can become an unnecessary complication that may lead to longer hospital stays or even mortality.
As soon an I woke up I felt very cold and I was coughing a lot. My breathing was in short unsteady intervals. my head was pounding so I woke up my mother. she took my temperature and made a shocking discovery my temperature was 104 and my face my blue from oxygen deficiency, she quickly called the ambulance. The ambulance came and I was taken away in the gurney.
However , pneumonia can be treated at home in most cases by : • Drinking lots of fluids • Tons of rest • Cough medicines shouldn’t be taken without prior consultation • Fever is to be controlled with apririn In cases of severe pneumonia , antibiotics and fluids may be injected into the veins. 1.10 Complications The possible complications following pneumonia could be : • Acute respiratory distress syndrome • Pleural effusion • Lung abscesses • Respiratory failure • Sespis (leading to organ failure) 1.11 Transmission Pneumonia can be transmitted in a number of ways. The viruses present in a childs nose , can cause inf ection in the lungs if inhaled.
Health practitioners possess distinctive scope of practice standards based upon distinctive skills, education and qualification levels. RNs are accountable to assess patients’ health problems and needs, develop and implement nursing care plans, maintain medical records and supervise ENs and AINs practice. Excepting the ENs’ abilities to assist intervene and evaluate patients health and functional status and administer prescribed medicines or maintain intravenous fluid, ENs and AINs are both have responsibilities to observe patients health status and report changes to the RNs, maintain ongoing communication with RNs regarding the patients’ health and functional status, assist patients with ADL and emotional support, and understand health information technology. Successive healthcare treatment is always associated with collaborated teamwork.
