Essay: The Importance Of Poetry Translation
This essay focuses in the importance of poetry translation as said on his speech for the Neustadt International Prize for Literature, Tomas Tranströmer: “We must believe in poetry translation, if we want to believe in World Literature”. First, according to the dictionary world literature means: “World literature is sometimes used to refer to the sum total of the world’s national literatures, but usually it refers to the circulation of works into the wider world beyond their country of origin” The poetry translation is really important, in this module we have read plenty of works that have been translated into English. In this module we have studied works such as The Fables by Marie de France and I will compare this works with the importance of poetry translation. However the most difficult dare is found in the differences between cultures. The people of each culture have a different point of view, different cultures have different focuses. There are different words in each language that does not mean the same. For example the people who live in the zones with a lot of ice such as the poles, they have several names for calling the snow, we only have one.
