Police Brutality In The 80's

Every child gets “The REAL Talk,” but every talk is different. For most African Americans the the talk includes how the world is not a fair place if a person is different, if African Americans want to get somewhere, they have to work twice as hard, and In the US last year, 223 African Americans were killed by police due to police brutality. One third of those people were unarmed, and should not have been seen as a threat, but they were still killed. 12 of these people were under the age of 18. African Americans should not have to be scared to go outside any day thinking they might not make it home.

Especially African Americans, but in our recent history we have up all race crimes. I think this is due to the things our political leaders are saying. Many of them are trying to help, but they also say some racist things that ignite race wars. (Fighting for freedom) Many of our mass shootings in that occurs because of police shootings are because of race.

Jem, Scout, and Dill always stereotype Boo Radley without knowing him or knowing his real story. To explain this example I say people always stereotype people without knowing the person. When a person is walking down the street another person will be stereotyping him or her for religion or race. Another example is when they put Tom Robinson in jail for rapping a white women, but he was innocent. The court won't hear his side they think he is lying because Tom is black.

“Take a Picture (or Video), It Lasts Longer” On August 9th 2014, Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager, was shot and killed by police officer Darren Wilson in Ferguson Missouri. On November 24th, the St. Louis grand jury decided there were no probable cause to indict Mr. Wilson. This decision sparked an outrage around the community where building where set on fire and lootings were prevalent around the city. With much of the evidence being he-say-she-say, it is hard for the public to actually know what happened. This led to an increased interest in body cameras.

Most of black people of Maycomb in the 1930swere terrorized of committing some crime because they could be lynched for a crime they did not commit or do. One example of the book in chapter 18 was the start of the trial of Tom Robinson who was accused of rape and was in fear of being lynched for a crime he did not do. The main meaning of to Kill a Mocking Bird is to show how black people were being thought of as non-human simply because of their skin color. Tom Robinson’s trial began at chapter 18 and he feared of being lynched. He was accused by Bob Ewell because his daughter told him the Tom Robinson was the one who raped her.

However, research demonstrates that often times men of color are treated harshly which leads to negative perceptions of police officers. Police brutality is a crime that is has been surfacing in the news recently. Some people are just starting to realize that these injustices against the black community really occur, while others are well aware. The recent shootings, different run-ins with officers being filmed while doing such harmful actions against African American men is an example of police brutality and, that reminds us that as a society work needs to be done to improve police and community relations. A black male cannot even walk down the street on a cold night because he might be a suspect from something or he may be of danger to the people around.

Claims of the police using excessive force when dealing with unarmed criminals are common in the United States. The increase in the number of homicides perpetrated by police officers in the line of duty has evoked great indignation across the country. The public demands that police officers are held accountable for their actions when they are on duty. In the United States, police are hardly prosecuted for on-duty homicides, in spite of the high number of murders that the law enforcement agents commit (Cooper 46). Numerous factors stop the judges from prosecuting officers who commit murder while on duty.

This is the reason why Martin Luther King says, “ But when you have seen vicious mobs lynch your mothers and fathers at will and drown your brothers and sisters at whim”(10). The African American community gets riled up and they are willing to fight for justice. He also says this to refute when the clergymen said that they knew their community, the clergy don’t know their community, though, because they haven’t been through what

The black panthers put a lot of their dedication into police brutality since police officers used their powers against blacks on a daily. Freedom to all black men in prisons and jails because majority of the blacks put into jails had unfair trials and are innocent of their accusations. The next point is the black people to be tried with a jury of their race for the sake of equality and fairness. The last point in the ten point program is the need for land, bread, housing, education, clothing, justice and peace. The need for all of these points shows the dedication of the black panther party.

According to the text "I had a dream" Not given a right to vote, victim of police brutality and not having granted citizen rights were some of the hardships that African American people had to face. One example of hardships that the African American people had to face is they were victims of police brutality. This means that the police had the power to physically abuse the African Americans for any little thing they did. Another example of a hardship African American had to face is granted citizen rights. Minority New Yorkers on a daily basis have experienced the negative actions of the NYPD by simply walking or driving. This would not be considered suspicious if you were not a minority male. Families never have an opportunity to feel safe when their male family members leave their home because of the actions of the NYPD officers. There are more than 179 cases of unarmed victims killed by the police (Kerby,2012). Improving the relationships of the minority communities and the NYPD is very important to strengthen New York City and combat crime.

When the Baltimore riots took place everyone around the world not just in Maryland started pointing fingers towards the black people. However, it was just the African race getting blamed when multiple races were involved in the riots. The riots took place because of innocent black people were being killed for example Freddy Gray was killed in the back of a patty wagon. Mr. Gray was put into the vehicle alive and well but when they went to take him out he was unresponsive. Alton Sterling would be another perfect example of police brutality against the African race.

The Plague of the United States era, society is insistently assured by police and their apologist, is not the extensive abuse and other frequent misconduct by law enforcements officers, but the expanding “disrespect for authority” that is being encouraged by “liberals” and those more extensive individuals called “libertarians” The widespread media coverage of police brutality has become too common within our societies everyday life, thus causing destruction of the communities trust. Savage treatment is continually afflicted among African Americans as a replacement form of punishment. A second reason why african americans are protesting on black lives matter is because african americans are being killed by the police officers and nothing 's being done. ”Nearly 1 in 3 black people killed by police in 2015 were identified as unarmed, though the actual number is likely higher due to underreporting”(Mapping 1).We feel as if we are being lynched. People feel as if nothing 's changed since slavery. African americans can 't even trust going to the cops nomore. Its to the point where we can 't even drive or walk down the street without getting stopped by a police officer.

How long will we continue to reject the fact that it is racism that fuels police brutality in the United States? Racism has been a topic of in the media each day in the country. Police brutality is happening everywhere and has become more commonplace with the increase of racist police officers who are a part of a corrupt system that targets the African-American male population. Police are not killing blacks because the crimes they commit are threatening, but because of the color of their skin and the way they look. Whites are rarely killed because they appear to be innocent to the police.
