We should also involve the different addressees in political communicative events, such as the public, the people, citizens, and other groups. In political texts, lexis and grammar are rearranged in a clever way to lure and invite the majority of mass readers into certain states of political action and the message. The language used by politicians is designed to lead the public to a particular view of political reality and to act them in a way that is consistent with this view by voting for a particular party, for instance, or edge unawares into a certain territory of thinking, or ideology. Ideational grammatical metaphor, in conveying the politician's message in a more desirable manner, plays an evidently important role. Along these lines metaphors pervade political discourse.
In the discourse of the present British Prime Minister, Theresa May, metaphors aren’t just superficial stylistic adornments, but they help her to construct the country's reality. Grammatical metaphors are used in political discourse for reasons which might include making everyday experience inaccessible and remote. This research aims to show implicit meanings in May’s speeches in terms of nominalization and process types of ideational grammatical metaphor, and show the unity of the British people through using language by their
Metaphors are a figure of speech in which a word or phrase is applied to an object or action to which it is not literally applicable. Throughout this chapter, an abundance of metaphors can be found. For example, on page 193, “The kiss of his

Some of the authors metaphors even use pathos in order to more deeply impact the reader’s thought and it creates an emotional uplifting effect. In order to prove her point she continually relies on a metaphorical language to help the reader interpret her thoughts of
In most stores that people read, they never notice metaphoric language. Readers may think that it is just a weird way to say something, but most metaphors have meanings. If readers pay more attention to this element it makes the story more interesting to read. Once someone reads while identifying metaphoric language, they will never stop. The authors of the two stories “The Long Rain” and “Harrison Bergeron” used metaphoric language to shape the mood and dominant themes of the stories.
“Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power.” -Patrick Rothfuss. Everyone in uses figurative language in someway, you could be writing a paper, yelling at your sister, or maybe just talking to yourself. But you use it in someway, shape, or form.

Metaphors are an influential piece to the literary world due to, “the process of using symbols to know reality occurs”, stated by rhetoric Sonja Foss in Metaphoric Criticism. The significance of this, implies metaphors are “central to thought and to our knowledge and expectation of reality” (Foss 188). Although others may see metaphors as a difficult expression. Metaphors provide the ability to view a specific content and relate to connect with involvement, a physical connection to view the context with clarity. As so used in Alice Walker’s literary piece, In Search Of Our Mothers’ Gardens.
The Potential of Rhetoric The more cunning sides of rhetoric have coined a negative reputation for the art of persuasion, which has been relegated as the manipulation of politicians in modern society. However, the tools that rhetoric provides have also granted leaders a medium in which they may guide their flock effectively and a form of higher communication where arguments can be proposed without violence – precisely what the very pillars of society are constructed upon. Although the essence of persuasion lies in manipulation, the principles of argument use the instruments of language for the better of society. Evidence of rhetoric shaping nations and society and examples from historical events indicate the value of rhetoric as a learning standard for students in high school education.
A Deliberative Speech in a Ceremonial Occasion An Academy Award acceptance speech delivered by Leonardo DiCaprio at February 28th, 2016 was an interesting recent speech. I will identify the rhetorical situation of the speech which includes the audience, the occasion, the speaker, and the speech. At the same time, I will also analyze how the speaker’s purpose was translated into the speech, how the audience adapted with the speaker’s intention, and how the arguments were delivered to the audience with certain arrangement and language style. Delivered during an award show where the speaker won recognition as “Best Actor” of 2016, the speech was expected to be a ceremonial speech. As the occasion, one can easily identify the award as an exigence that required a speech of gratitude.
Rhetoric is defined as the art of persuasion using oral or written communications (Rapp). There are many theories and ideas which an orator or writer can use as tools to achieve their goal of persuading an audience. The audience is defined in rhetoric as “the listeners or spectators at a speech or performance, or the intended readership for a piece of writing or an assembled and pointed group of listeners that receive the message of the rhetor and ultimately decide the message’s effectiveness” (Enos). Within the study of rhetoric the focus is on what the speaker or writer does to create the affect and response they want from their audience; in this essay I will describe the audience and their role in the communications throughout
Metaphors such as this one create connections and empathy between the audience and the speaker. Using a metaphor is the perfect way to evoke a reaction from the audience. The use of metaphors in Reynolds’ speech allows the audience to develop empathy toward the speaker and the speaker’s

On the night of October 1, 2017 a man named Stephen Paddock shook America with the chaos of the Las Vegas shooting. He killed 58 people and injured hundreds with a legally acquired rifle. He had the freedom to acquire the weapon but not the freedom to use it in order to do harm and leave people without mothers, fathers, sons, and daughters. Although that night was the biggest mass shooting on U.S soil, it also brought out the true patriot and hero inside of some people who saved countless lives on that tragic night. Even in the midst of chaos some people remember where they’re from and fight back against evil trying to deter America’s morale and hope.
