Direct democracy is all the power places in the hands of individual. When a political decisions must be made, all members of a polity stick together and individually have a vote. Representative democracy is to set up a medium political actor between the individual and the policy outputs of the state. Through the election, people are elected and assigned with the task of making decisions on behalf of the group of citizens that they represent. Democracy in Malaysia Malaysia is a federation of 13 states which is operating within a constitutional monarchy under the Westminster parliamentary system and also known as a representative democracy.
Throughout history there have been many different forms of government. Representative democracy and dictatorship are two that ultimately have no correlation to each other, besides the fact that they are both a form of government. They do however, have many differences that play a role in how each government is run. Representative democracy allows for freedom of the people, while dictatorship runs strictly under the power of one individual. Representative democracy is preferable because it allows freedom and voice of the people.
Democracy is a political system which, at its core, enshrines the public sovereignty through the representative mechanism. In democracy, political representation by popular vote is a source of the political legitimacy on which the government practice the state power. As always, we have learnt about “power tends to corrupt, absolute power corrupts absolutely” , say Lord Acton , we , in democracies , need to set up control mechanism over usage of power . On the other hand, the government can do nothing for the people without having considerable powers such as taxation, law makings, law enforcement and probing social and political issues and the likes . In concept of Democracy, the power must be limited and put under “check and balance” mechanism.
This can project the people from anything they would disagree to occur. Democracy is based on the rule of equality which means that all the people are equal as far as the law is concerned. Every person has the right to enjoy and experience social, political and economic rights and state is not allowed to discriminate him on the standard of gender, class, property or religion. When there are fixed and elected representative a more responsible government is formed. People under this type of system can discuss matters and problems thoroughly to come up with sensible decision.
It gives them a feeling of importance and sense of responsibility. In democracy, members are elected by the votes casted by the people, so it is less liable to revolution than dictatorship. In addition to this, a democratic government usually guarantees freedom of thought and speech. Democracy thus offers the most favorable atmosphere for the human personality. People who live in a democratic state have civil liberties and political rights.
The argument of communism versus democracy has yet to end and with so many differences and few real similarities as the worlds turns and new leadership takes place the people are always at the helm of reform and reconstruction. As most incumbent leaders and rulers assure the people as they campaign. Democracy is a government by the people; especially: rule of the majority and a government in which the supreme power is vested in the people and exercised by them directly or indirectly through a system of representation usually involving periodically held free elections, whereas communism is a system of government in which a single authoritarian party controls state-owned means of production, eliminating the right of private property. Democracy is the cornerstone of American politics, so living under a Democracy means freedom of choice and respect for individual rights with less government control. In a
There are two types of democracy, direct democracy and representative democracy. While they are both democracies, they have many differences. However, they have quite a few similarities as well. A direct democracy is a form of government where everybody votes. A representative democracy is a form of government where electives are chosen to make major decisions.
this government is of different types. Some are democracy, republic, monarchy, dictatorship and aristocracy. The types of governments Democracy is explained by Abraham Lincoln as “government of the people, by the people and for the people”. It is completely governed by a representative of a people who is elected by voting method. Direct democracy means that the people they themselves select their leader.
Democracy Democracy is derived from the Greek words “demos” and “kratia” to form demokratia, meaning the people rule. Cambridge Dictionary defines Democracy as “the belief in freedom and equality between people, or a system of government, based on then that power is held, either by elected representatives, or directly by the people themselves.” Socialism on the other hand is more of an economic and social system. Boyle (1912) described socialism as, “the collective ownership and control of the means of production, distribution and exchange, which can be operated “socially” for the equitable good of all.” This paper we will tour both ideologies to derive perspectives about the role of the state, in terms of its relationship to the citizenry, and determine which ideology requires a strong central government to play a larger role in society. Democracy, as an ideology, represents the idea that the majority decides on the issues by voting. As a form of government it often describes a process of voting, on elections or referendums, through which laws are passed, representing the entire populace (Biorseth, 2013).
Though both vote in referendums. However, the direct or pure democracy mostly practiced in small and less populated countries and the second type is representatives or indirect democracy which is appropriate to be practiced in huge and populated countries. In this type of democracy, people opt delegates to create the laws of government on their behalf .Sometimes; it can be influenced by other factors so the government can take the right decision as they think is appropriate. However, I strongly support direct democracy for its prominent qualities which is far better than representative democracy. Why is direct democracy a great form of government?
