Abstract:- An experimental work was carried out to observe the change in strength of Cement-Mortar which is reinforced with Polypropylene fiber. Compression test and Split tensile test were performed. Polypropylene fiber can enhance both Compressive as well as Split Tensile strength. Specimens with various proportion of fiber ranging from 0.0% to 2.5% were prepared and tested. …show more content…

Fine Aggregate
The sand used for this work was locally procured. Sieve Analysis of the sand was carried out in the laboratory as per IS 383-1970[7]. Result conformed that fine aggregate of zone III. The properties of fine aggregate are given in table 2.

TABLE 2. Properties of Fine Aggregate Property Average value
1. Specific Gravity 2.72
2. Water absorption 3.98%
3. Moisture content 5.09%
4. Fineness Modulus 4.87
5. Type Natural Sand
6. Grading Zone III

C. Water
Fresh and clean water is used for casting the specimens. The water was free from organic matter like oil, silt, sugar, acidic material & chloride etc. as per Indian standard.

D. Polypropylene Fiber
Table 3. Properties of PP fiber

Experimental work: In order to study the effects of PP fiber on the behavior of cement composites i.e. cement-mortar having ratio 1:4 in terms of compressive strength and split tensile strength, tests were carried out. Both type of specimen were casted i.e. with PP fiber & without PP fiber. For the case with PP fiber, it was reinforced by 12 mm length fibers. The variable percentage of fiber content used in this research work was 0.0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0, 1.50, 2.0, and 2.5 % by weight of cement. Every 15 specimens were casted for each type of PP fiber percentage and total 105 specimens at end (fig. 1 &2). All …show more content…

 Increase in Compressive strength is obtained with 0.25% of polypropylene fiber by weight of cement in cement-mortar.
 Increase in Spilt Tensile strength is obtained with 0.75% of polypropylene fiber by weight of cement in cement-mortar.
