In this scene we elected a leader to lead our tribe. Ben suggests that we elect Ponyboy to be leader, while Larry suggests Barry to be leader because he thinks Ponyboy looks like a wuss. They settle it in a fight where Barry tags in Larry because he doesn’t want to fight. Ponyboy ends up winning with a powerful flick to the head. This scene is connected to the book by the quote, “ Ralph counted. ‘I’m chief then.’ The circle of boys broke into applause.” (pg.23). The boys in the story elect their leader as a democracy, while we elect ours by the strongest of us.
