You just became a young parent and there are a lot of things to do. Many kids in college are making unhealthy choices that are very time consuming. This makes it harder to attend class and be ready to learn. This would be a main reason why people are failing in college. These are the main reasons people are failing in college.
At this level, the analysis will be very small and precise because it deals with the most basic form of interaction, between each other or small groups. When studying the issue of students dropping out of college at a single or small scale, there are many problems that could affect why one person would not be able to make it at a college or university. One example is a family cannot manage to maintain a student in college because they are needed in the home. A specific example would be if a parent passed away, and there is a new lack of stability for the family. A student might have to drop out and get a job to provide for younger siblings or a parent.
Another factor of attending college is struggling with weight whether it be gaining it or losing it. Struggling with weight when attending college connects back to the anxiety, stress and pressure. Also, when attending college students get busy with assignments, studying or trying to take a break from all the work that is given to them. These are just some of the disadvantages that keep students from attending
Many parents hold incredibly high expectations of their students due to the necessity of being college educated in order to obtain a job in which they can support themselves. On top of this pressure from parents, colleges and universities hold increasingly high standards in criteria for accepting potential students. Universities hope that students excel academically, in sports, volunteering, and they must be a well rounded individual. The need students to be essentially perfect and holding the same common level of standard puts measureless stress on students. This causes some students to rise above the pressure and excel in all areas, but other students do not work quite as well under the same amount of pressure.
I found the Peterson’s Blog: The Real Guide to Colleges and Universities website. Within the website I found the article “Top 11 Reasons Why College Students Dropout: Don’t Let it Happen to You.” The article lists several of the most common reasons why college students dropout of colleges and universities. The reasons include education costing too much, the need for a full time job in order to pay for college, and family issues. The list also covers too much stress and lack of knowledge of a major. The last reasons that the list covers include being unprepared for the work, not having a sense of belonging, too much fun outside of class, and the lack of advising.
So what is academic failure? Academic failure is the student was not able to meet the required passing grade in a subject. But the question why does a college student experience it? According to Dr. Robert Pitcher, “failure can cause lasting damage to self-esteem, and the consequences can influence an entire lifetime” (Robert Pitcher). That is why Dr. Robert Pitcher has come up with what he believes are the types of primary causes in failure in college.
College is Stressful College, what an exciting yet stressful experience! A higher education can provide opportunities in the job market as competition becomes increasingly difficult. Many college students experience significant stress maintaining balance between college, work, and family. This constant balancing act often creates a feeling of overwhelm. As a thirty-plus year old student working full-time and provider to a family of seven, my personal experience attests that college causes stress.
High school and College students’ ethics have elevated over the years and has only increased. Cheating has been a tremendous epidemic for a long period of time and recently skyrocketed because of the creation of smartphones and electronics. Students who are academically dishonest are usually in honors and advanced placement classes because they are challenged and learning a more rigorous curriculum than the other students who are in college prep courses. The reason for their actions is because of academic stress students receive on a daily basis to obtain admirable grades, so they can go to a well-known college. In the article Nurturing Ethical Collaboration, the author Alexis Brooke Redding justifies why students cheat in high school and college
When a person graduates college with student loans and can’t find a job they have to work multiple smaller jobs to make money and pay off the loans. Then when they find a job they are unprepared for everything they have to do because they didn’t learn how to do everything at the same time in college. Instead of going to college and wasting time and money go to a trade school or get an intern or fellowship first so if you do go to college later on you are prepared when you
Again, procrastination is one reason why students fail to do work. Grades are said to drive students to push themselves even more, yet it is not entirely true. Some students cheat, causing their grades to fly high, and that doesn’t reflect wit at all. In a survey of 24,000 students at 70 high schools, Donald McCabe (Rutgers University) found that 64 percent of students admitted to cheating on a test, 58 percent for plagiarism, and 95 percent for some other form of cheating. (Facts) This proves that grades are more likely to cause students to cheat than to motivate
