Imagine working 12-hour shifts with no breaks, inferior and hazardous conditions, and little pay. The Industrial Revolution was a change in manufacturing processes in Great Britain. It was influenced by the Enlightenment and Scientific Revolution, and it brought migration to cities, science, demand for products, low farm wages, Utilitarianism, and mechanism. It was an explosion of development. Although the workers of the Industrial revolution were made aware of the conditions, the Industrial Revolution jobs were dangerous because of the high factory risks, long work days, and deplorable conditions. During the Industrial Revolution, the factories had appalling working conditions, such as poor ventilation, causing harmful fumes. Additionally, …show more content…
“Poor workers were often housed in cramped, grossly inadequate quarters.” Many workers had long days and hours with dangerous and vigorous tasks every day, and they would need to go back home to many other people with other families, all cramped into a tiny house with only 2-4 rooms with families of 4-5 children with them. Many people carried diseases from the conditions surrounding them and ailments in their day-to-day lives during the Industrial Revolution, so it is clear how dangerous it would be to be around so many people and have to share everything with them. Additionally, the conditions weren’t just wrong in the factories; they were very harmful on the outsides, such as infrequent garbage removal, sharing public outhouses, no running, clean water, and closely built buildings with narrow streets. Families and children who lived near factories and moved for work often started working together. The children would have different jobs from their parents, but they carried similar dangers that adults also had to undergo. Child labor was one of the worst kinds of work because children have much more needs than adults and are less developed in their early lives to have full-time, active jobs. Children could be working as soon as the young age of five, which would be very damaging for young children. Some children even developed rickets due to the lack of sunlight from burning coal. Overall, the conditions during the Industrial Revolution, in the factory and out, were so bad and harmful that they killed so many people without any reason trying to
The Industrial Revolution occured in the early 1800’s in both Europe and the United States. Sparked by the farming revolution, the industrial revolution was an era of creation where many new inventions came about to improve both daily life and general life. It was important because it brought about many still relevant inventions such as interchangeable parts, the canning/preserving of food, and mass production by means of machine. Although the Industrial Revolution helped to improve production rates, efficiency rates, and created improved and lasting technology, it was detrimental to the health of the workers, destroyed the domestic industries, and brought faulty buildings and poor sanitation habits. While others were able to enjoy the products produced in factories, those who toiled over the machines to create such products suffered many health complications as a result.
Another problem that the Industrial Revolution was facing was pollution. Because a mass of factories were made, this had increased the amount of smoke and waste that were disposed into the environment. In document 7, the picture shows factories that released smoke out of the environment. This has worsened the environment and also caused diseases to people that live near the
The amount of time most adults worked was beyond unhealthy, but, what made it worse was that kids as young as nine were sent into the mill to work 6 1/2 hours. This was from Document G as Document G also described that adults were working more than 12 hours a day in warm, and damp air in the factories. Being in warm and damp conditions for half of a day every day is beyond miserable for the body physically and mentally. Many sicknesses were passed as a result from this which resulted in many deaths. It was clear that the health of most adults were detoriating, but it was still ultimately decided to put kids to work like adults even though children generally are not as healthy as adults.
Many kids and adults had to work all day on their feet and never really got time to relax and go home. they had to work for hours in machines which could make people sick because there were pollutions and other chemical that gave people health problems and they may sometimes have died because maybe they couldn’t afford to go to the doctors because, workers in the factories didn’t really get pay that much because of how they work for long times . according to Document 2 it explains “ the hour labor was from 6 to t night; it was very difficult work “as a result, even though many people work they couldn’t afford to buy much food for their family and barely saw their kids and have a time to enjoy each other. Also there were many people adult that could no longer work and manger would offer little kids to work at a very younger age and didn’t have to go to school. Many girls who work had to tie their hair back because it would be catch on the machines.
The Industrial Revolution created to change that ruined people's lives. They worried about financing, getting rid of jobs, and overworking the workers, those are all certain ways people were affected by the industry
The Industrial Revolution was a drastic time for anyone who was living during it. It was a hard time for those who had to live during it, or work through it. The Industrial Revolution was from the eighteenth to nineteenth century, and it started in England. The horrific living conditions were unbearable, and inhuman. Then, there was substandard working conditions, the rates of workers dying were unfortunately high.
They worked in hazardous conditions that often injured them or made them ill. There were no laws put in place to protect the children. European Industrialization benefited greatly from accessible and affordable child laborers throughout the 1800’s. Children sacrificed their health and education to earn a family living.
The industrial revolution was a curse as well as a blessing. while i was doing my research i came across many photos and articles of reasons why this was bad. as shown in the quote, “ You went down one step from the foul area into the cellar which a family of humans lived.” (Gaskell 290). is shown here the person is describing how bad the living situations were for the lower class.
The Industrial Revolution, lasting from the late 1700s until the early 1900s, was possibly one of the greatest time periods in this world’s history. This time period caused people to think more and dream bigger. From these big dreams rose up inventors, entrepreneurs, and business owners. The Industrial Revolution brought many new inventions and production processes, but along with great new things come great terrible horrors. While some might argue that Industrialization had primarily positive consequences for society because of the new production methods and what they produced, it was actually a negative thing for society.
The Industrial Revolution was a horrific time in the 1700s by the fact that it caused bad pollution and children would be worn out at the end of their work day. The greatest aspect of industrialization was that the kids and adults had good surroundings. “Of these there are 500 children who are entirely fed, clothed, and educated by Mr.Dale” (Document 6). The quote is evidence that shows the kids were well cared for.
Something that was good about the industrial revolution was that there was more workers and people could get payed more. Things that were bad was that little kids could. That’s bad because kid get hurt for example, for kids who worked on farms would ride on horse rakes and easily fall off and get crushed. Kids would get overworked after working 12 hours a day.
They couldn't just go outside and play when they wanted because they had to work. Also, children lost their hands and arms from the machines, and some got their skin stripped to the bone, and some would lose a finger or two. Some more reasons why I think that about the factories is that they had to work 72 hours a week. With very little
Child labor was a great problem in the Industrial Revolution. Factory owners usually hired women and children rather than men. They said that men expected higher wages, and they suspected that they were more likely to rebel against the company. Women and children were forced to work from six in the morning to seven at night, and this was when they were not so busy. They were forced to arrive on time and they couldn’t fall behind with their work because if they did they were whipped and punished.
The Industrial revolution is about people who work in the factories. Some factories children work are very dangerous. Some of the other factories where the men work in are very dangerous to. The clothes that they wore were nasty and dirty and old.
The industrial revolution created an age of wonder for the rich but also created a nightmare for the workers powering the industrial revolution. The period of rapid industrial growth during the 1800s and into the early 1900s was more harmful because of poor working conditions, violent labor disputes and poor regulations at factories. The businessmen of the industrial revolution created poor working conditions for men and women just
