The recent issues regarding the health of the public is getting complex. There need to be new and effective ways to promote and protect health and prevention of the disease. The Ontario Public Health Organization assesses and improves the complex population health interventions. It develops new methods and approaches for public health implementation science. Since many health information infrastructure systems are relatively new, there is still variability in the implementation stages that different organizations have achieved. Additionally, most systems will have more than one capability that provides value, so the relationship between the system’s functionality and the resulting impact to patient care must be analyzed in order to determine the value it provides (Einstein, Juzwishin, Kushniruk, & Nahm, 2011). Value of health information infrastructures can be assessed in many different ways, including whether the technology allows the availability of useful information, how that information is utilized by staff and patients, and its impact on health outcomes. For information to be of value and influence medical decision making, it must be comprehensive, accessible, useful, and valid (Fitterer, Mettler, Rohner, & Winter, 2011).
Since obtaining my master’s degree I often ask myself what will be my next career path. Will I continue to further my education or focus on other aspects of my life? As I continue to grow in my professional career, I have obtain valuable skills and knowledge to succeed in the public health field. However, the drive to immerse myself in higher education and receive more leadership opportunities are goals that I have not met. Therefore, I would like to continue my education in the same field, by applying for The Doctor of Public Health (Dr. P.H) in Health and Policy Leadership program, at Loma Linda University School of Public Health.
A CMIO is a very high position, but it is not the highest position that a person can have. Many CMIOs desire to become a CIO in order to have more authority. Some start taking steps forward ahead of time. There are so called CIO Boot camps, that are designed to broader the management perspective of a person. With time a CMIO can become a CIO but also chief marketing officer (CMO), Chief Operating Officer (COO) or CQA.

Pros also include operational efficiency, the capabilities to process and store data quickly, patient’s history, diagnostic test results and even medical imaging. The confidentiality is a concern when it comes to electronic health records. Identity theft can arise when unauthorized people get access to private and sensitive records. There is less communication amongst healthcare providers and the patient.

Population health is a field which includes health outcomes, patterns of health determinants and policies and interventions that link these two (Kindig & Stoddart, 2003). More recently, the National Academy of Medicine defined population health as an approach that treats the population as a whole (including the environmental and community contexts) as the patient (NACNEP, 2016). Allied health professionals relate to population health through the understanding of the increased demand to serve the population rather than only the individual. The three most critical areas to better serve the health of the population as allied health professionals include 1) viewing the population’s health as a whole, versus as individuals, 2) to emphasize the need to practice quality improvement and patient safety in all instances when a medical decision is made, and 3) take into consideration all sub-populations when judging the health of an entire population. To shift from individual patient care, based on active symptoms, is the current practice of most healthcare professionals.
A well-structured strategic business plan can help a health care organizations improve efficiency of service delivery, profitability, patient satisfaction and cost reduction not only in the short term but also in the long term. A good business plan is the formal process that can be used by health care to identify areas that can be improved.
