Love is an unbelievably powerful thing. It can make you feel at the very top of the world one minute and the absolute bottom the next. Love takes dedication, loyalty, and respect. Poseidon, god of the sea, who holds so much strength and dignity- was heartbroken. He felt lost, didn’t know where he as a person was. The mighty ruler of the sea had such a feeling of heartache, as if he had hit absolute rock bottom. Denial was the only thing stopping the ever so fragile hearted God from being with a woman who held such poise and beauty. For she was a human being, who lived in a small village along the Polynesian Sea. Her beauty seemed to radiate off of her, rather it being her crystal like blue eyes, or the way her hair blew slightly as the …show more content…
Talia was just as gorgeous up close as she was away. They spent the rest of the night making jokes and watching the moon reflect the light of the ocean. Nevertheless, they were both head over heels for each other. When it started to get exceptionally late, Poseidon told her he should probably head home. Talia responded with, “I wish you didn’t but that's probably a good idea. Will I ever see you again?” As suspected, Poseidon told her they would see each other again. He really liked this girl. She was unique and charming, in the best of ways. Poseidon knew Zeus would not be too happy with him, but he believed he could manage to talk him into it. In fact, the next morning, he went and spoke to him about it. At first, Zeus was exceptionally critical about it. However, Poseidon then brought up the story of Zeus and Hera. Their story was strangely similar to Poseidon and Talia’s. This persuaded Zeus to allow Poseidon to continue being with Talia. He was thankful he had kept trying, even if he was knocked down pretty hard, he only came back stronger. This experience inspired him to turn to the positive outlooks of every situation, and know every tough path has a light at the end of the tunnel. As for Talia and Poseidon as a whole, things are amazing. Talia’s family and village love Poseidon, and Zeus and Hera absolutely adore
Hephaestus demanded. “You sure you want to face me, if you insist we will take it to the sky at sunset,” Poseidon smirked. The evening right as sunset was happening they were rose to the sky. All the people looking at the sunset saw the Gods and were curious.
After having Odysseus tell the Phaeacian all his troubles after the Trojan War and having to land on their island, the King of the Phaeacian, Alcinous, offered to help Odysseus to get back home. Alcinous sent some of his men to travel with Odysseus. As the ship was away and traveling back home, Poseidon talked to Zeus, about a plan that he has for the Phaeacian after helping Odysseus and dishonoring him. His plan was to destroy the beautiful ship of the Phaeacians and ring a mountain around their city. Zeus had his part on the disastrous plan as well, he tells Poseidon to “wait until the people are watching the ship sail into the harbor”, then “turn the ship into stone near the shore” and then to raise the ring of mountains around the island (95).
At birth, Poseidon was swallowed by his father, but was saved by his brother, Zeus. He lives in the Aegean Sea, in a palace made of gold, with his wife Amphitrite. He was described as muscular with a dark beard and he is holding a trident. In one myth, Poseidon and goddess Athena had competed for being a deity for the
In the epic poem, Odysseus battles many obstacles on his long journey back home to Ithaca, where he must be reunited with his wife and son and confront the disrespectful suitors. Along the way, he and his son, Telemachus, experience support from the goddess Athena in particular, yet Odysseus also endures hostility from the antagonistic Polyphemus and Poseidon. In The Odyssey, Homer depicts the intimate, sometimes complicated relationships as well as the balance of power between mortals and the gods while showing the importance of loyalty and hospitality to ancient Greek life. The first powerful mortal-god
You know how Zeus had other children that were not with Hera, correct? Well, Hera had 1 other child. Her name is Tili. See know Tili has quite the story.
The first sea nymph (Thetis) he had courted was a little too good as Poseidon left her after he learned that she could birth a child even greater than its father. As he moves on to court another sea nymph (Ampritrite) she rejects Poseidon but Poseidon did not give up instead he sends a messenger to persuade to come back to him and be his wife. Although u would think that after `putting in all that effort he would be content but he insisted on having extramarital affairs which had resulted in an unhappy marriage.
If some god strikes me on the wine-dark sea, I will endure it. By now I am used to suffering--I have gone through so much at sea and in the war” (5.219-224). Poseidon has been interfering with Odysseus and his men’s journey throughout the story just because he harmed his Cyclops son, Polyphemus. These obstacles that Poseidon has been placing in their way have made him want to go back home even more. “And she says that I alone should hear their singing.
The family of Poseidon dates back to the B.C. era. Poseidon’s mother and father were Cronus and Rhea, who were Titans. His siblings were Hestia, Hera, Zeus, Hades, and Demeter. After the gods defeated the Titans, the world was divided into three parts; Zeus was given the skies, Poseidon received the seas, and Hades inherited the underworld (“Poseidon”).
He makes Odysseus suffer many hardships and makes him miss his family more and more everyday. Poseidon has a reason to act this way though; in his journeys, the great Odysseus blinded Poseidon's son. Poseidon was full of rage and sympathy for his son to be treated this way. He
In book 9, when Odysseus blinds the monster, the cyclops prays to his father Poseidon, and says “ If I am truly thy son and thou art indeed my father, grant that Odysseus the conqueror of Troy-the son of Laertes-whose address is in Ithaca, may never reach his home!”(Homer, 111) It is shown that one of the reasons that Poseidon hates Odysseus is because he blinded his son.
Poseidon liked to claim coastal cities as his own since he was god of the sea. Once, Poseidon and Athena went head to head over ownership of a city which would later be named after the victor. The story goes that Athena and Poseidon held a contest to see which one would be able to control the beautiful coastal city. Poseidon raised his hand and made a stream. When the people drank from the stream it turned out to be saltwater, not freshwater.
The Odyssey, gods like Athena and Poseidon interfere with humans to satisfy their own desires, showing that they are just as imperfect and flawed as the mortals that they rule over. Athena favors Odysseus since he reminds her of herself. He portrays the same cunning, guile, and intelligence as she does; Athena had confided to him that “two of a kind, we are, contrivers, both,” comparing how similar they are. “Of all men now alive,” she says, “you are the best in plots and story telling.
Polyphemus and Poseidon’s relationship is not loving or respectful. Polyphemus doesn’t see Poseidon as a father, and he yells at him to give Odysseus a rough time at sea. Poseidon seems to love Polyphemus, but the relationship is not equally loving. Not many valued characteristics. Odysseus had just blinded Polyphemus and yelled his name at him, and Polyphemus tells Odysseus that he will ask his father to give him a hard time at sea if he does not stay on the island.
However, Zeus saw the two sides of the gods’ feelings towards Odysseus. “‘Great Odysseus/ who excels all men in wisdom... it’s the Earth-Shaker, Poseidon, unappeased,/ forever fuming against him..’” (1.78-83). Zeus created an equilibrium so that Poseidon could take out his anger on Odysseus through punishment, and Athena receives the duty of making sure Odysseus gets home to Ithaca.
Throughout his voyage, Poseidon delayed him of returning home by providing strong storm on the sea which caused the ship to destroy. Poseidon did not only delay his homecoming, but made him face different dangers and also saved him from the Trojan war. Zeus was the king of the gods who intervenes in dispute between gods and also men. He also has the power to make other gods do what he pleases. In his role in odyssey, he sent Hermes to order calypso to release Odysseus to return to Ithaca.
