To understand a person fully, you must first know that person and the reasoning behind that person’s mindset, choices, and lifestyle. While growing up, I lived with my dad and two sisters in a small town—about 1,200 people to the max and around 130 in the high school. As we grew up, my dad taught us our morals: “don’t lie," "don’t cheat," "don’t steal," "always act like a lady in public," and "be respectful to everyone around you.” After a good couple of times of not paying attention to these rules, and after being faced with the wrath of my dad’s temper, I straightened up and actually started listening to his words. Eventually, I took them up on my own and started following them because I wanted to, not because he kept telling me to. Through …show more content…
Because of my positive attitude toward others, it has helped produce my never-ending positive outlook on life. Another thing that has helped keep me positive and uplifting is God. With God by my side, I know I can do and accomplish anything I set my mind …show more content…
Growing up in a smaller than average class of 25 students, I am placed sixth academically. I am an active participant of almost all of the organizations, sports, and clubs my school offers. These extracurricular activities include volleyball and softball, four years; basketball, one year; cheerleading, three years; National Future Farmers of America Organization (FFA), one year; Family, Career, & Community Leaders of America (FCCLA), three years; Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), three years; National Honors Society (NHS), two years; Yearbook, two years; Student Council (StuCo), three years; Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), two years; Class Officer, two years; Forensics, one year; Band, two years; and Choir, one year. In many of these organizations I have been a key officer, but for my senior year I am President of FBLA, Vice-President of FCCLA, Secretary of NHS, Secretary of my class, and Secretary of StuCo. I have lettered multiple times in all of the sports I have participated in, and in softball I was awarded Honorable Mention my sophomore year and second team All State for Utility Player my junior year. In addition to these awards, my high school softball team has made it to state twice and has received runner-up and
Before 10th grade, I had an insufficiently rigorous course load to yield a competitive GPA. After taking the most rigorous classes for a year and boosting my GPA, I have decided to help my classmates tackle the competition at my school by helping them organize their schedules and classes for future academic years. I have reached out to these classmates through class projects and tutoring sessions. So far, I have helped about five teenagers become competitive. I have also frequently volunteered at a local food pantry.
For my senior year, I am the girl 's varsity swim captain. Other than athletics, the clubs that I am involved in are the National Honor Society and the National French Honor Society. To gain entry into the National Honor Society, one has to have a GPA that is a minimum of 3.5 and be immersed in a variety of activities. As for the
As a junior, I am currently enrolled in Pre-AP Pre-Calculus for my math course. For my science course junior year, I am enrolled in Pre-AP Biology. I plan on taking AP Calculus and AP Biology my senior year of high school. Extracurriculars and organizations that I participate in high school include; Girl Scouts, Key Club, Academic Decathlon, treasurer of California Scholarship Federation, tutoring, mentoring, and
I feel as though I could benefit National Honor Society through my leadership qualities, willingness to dedicate my time to the community, positive character, and perseverance to succeed in academics. While I may not hold many leadership positions at this time, I am able to step up and take charge in any necessary situations. Additionally, one can see that it is important that I take time out of my day to serve others as I devote two hours each weekend to volunteer. My academic standing is also of importance to me, believing that consistency in school is a crucial factor in achieving success. I challenge myself by choosing to take any honors or AP classes available and striving to put forth utmost effort in each class.
The first of my short-term goals is to graduate high school as a participant in the National Honor Society. The National Honor Society is a program high school students apply for and if they are accepted, gain multiple benefits from. Accepted students must have have high GPAs, multiple hours of community service, be considered strong leaders within their community and by their peers, and be of good character. It is my goal to become a member of this program because not only does it help with college applications, but it also challenges me to improve my strengths and weaknesses. More specifically, I’m wanting to it to push me to be more involved in the community resulting in improved leadership skills.
Body: a. Main Point 1: Joining a club will help students build a network for future success. i. Community service clubs were the original networks. “The oldest, Rotary, was established in 1905 by Chicago lawyer Paul Harris” states Tribune Business News “the idea was that one person from each profession would belong and members would, among other things, help each other in business.” ii. One reason students disregard the importance of extracurricular activities is because they fail to acknowledge that by joining a club, you develop connection with multiple organizations as well as people.
One reason having a positive attitude helps someone succeed is showing one can go through the hard times. In the Maze Runner the book, Thomas and his friends are trapped in a maze. There are other people watching them in the maze. Later on Thomas and his friends are trying to escape. While escaping they lost people but they stayed positive and succeed in escaping the
Throughout the history, there have been heated discussions on what constitutes a good life. Philosophers have given different annotations on the meaning of good life based on their beliefs, perspectives or even scientific-based evidences. Some view a good life as an accumulation of material goods that brings “large amount” of pleasure to oneself. On the other hand, Mencius and Aristotle advocate good life as possessing of pleasure that incorporates ethical values and they believe that by doing so one will experience enduring happiness. There is no ultimate right or wrong for these interpretations since this is not a factual question.
