CONCLUSION : This report has highlighted the many types of social worker that there are and has looked into the many different roles that they play in the community. It outlined the many challenges that social workers face and this was supported by both an interview with a child protection social worker and with research done online. The author concludes that while social work is a very stressful and emotionally draining career it is also very rewarding for those who are interested in helping people. There are many positive aspects and negative aspects that have been outlined in this report.

Especially if you have to deal with difficult circumstances and clients. Becoming emotionally invested with cases can leave you feeling drained. This happens especially if you find it difficult to separate your personal life and your job. Stress and compassion fatigue are also big parts of social work and this can lead to dissatisfaction with ones job.
Compensation – Social workers are not one of the top earning careers. You have to really do it for the love of it. It is a secure income, but many social workers live an average financial life. If you want to become an instant millionaire, then this is not the job for you.
Workload – With all the paperwork and difficult cases, many of our social workers are overworked. Combine this with low pay and stress and you have a very big con for this job.

RECCOMENDATIONS : Social workers should be provided with more professional support and consultation to make social work a more reflective job. This will reduce the amount of burnout and mental health issues that many social workers experience. And will provide them with the tools to learn how to do their jobs better and better help

Better education and publicizing of what the job entails, is needed as not many people know what social workers do or how diverse their job is.
Social workers should be provided with better safety precautions when dealing with dangerous, difficult or aggressive clients.
Legislation must be put in place to stop social workers from being exploited and overworked by employers. More social workers are needed to be recruited in order to have enough workers to stop current workers from being overworked.
More courses are needed in more areas of Ireland to make social work an easier accessible career path.
