Dr. king talk about a lot of hardships during this speech. The way that Dr. king showed the African Americans is by discrimination, racism and not getting any rights. For example Dr. king talks about a "Promissory note" which were suppose to give every person human rights but made them suffer more. Another example is "One hundred years later, the life of the Negro is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination" quoted by Dr. king. This shows that even after the "Promissory note" which is the declaration of independence they were stuck in this same place and being treated different because of their color.
However in 1865 the constitution finally outlawed slavery in the us. (13th amendment) The constitution stated that governments were prohibited from depriving a person 's life, liberty and property. Although slavery was abolished many African Americans were still deprived of their rights and were treated just as poorly as before. The reconstruction was not only a failure but was treated as a joke to all african americans. This idea is shown through laws against African Americans and the unfair way they were treated.
Additionally, African-Americans faced many hardships during this time, such as unclean bathrooms, unequal and separate water fountains, voting restrictions, and awful schooling compared to whites. Segregation was allowed in the United States of America as the 14th amendment abolished slavery, but left gaps on the topic of fair segregation on all levels.
During the early 60s and 50s America was an unforgiving place for people with colored skin or different racial backgrounds than white people would be separated and discriminated because they were different. With the help of people of Martin Luther King Jr. and other civil rights activists, they were able to outlaw and diminish segregation with peaceful protest and speeches.Segregation was a horrible because all it was is just people hating other people just because the way they look or racial backgrounds. In the early 60s and 50s segregation was a huge thing back then and many different activities and a lot of different things were designated for different races. For example,Montgomery,Alabama, when a bus became full, the seats nearer to the front were given to white people (Source A).White people were more privileged than any other race. This shows that some people can be so rude just because someone has a different way a life than themselves. In addition a person named Homer Plessy purchased a ticket for a train in
There are many conflicts in the world that stem from judging a person based on something that they have no control over. Racism, sexism, homophobia, and many other world issues are based on a belief of inequality. People are treated poorly because they are believed to be “less than” other people because of their race, gender, and sexual orientation. Although these are external qualities, people judge others as if people have control over something determined when they were born. The issue of inequality stemming from pre-determined characteristics is shown throughout history.
Southerners were frustrated that their property would be taken from them and turned into citizens. The Freedmen’s Bureau was started to help blacks be integrated back into society, and to teach them. This group was created by the Federal government. Radical Southerners did not like this idea at all. In return, they created laws called the Black Codes to oppress African Americans.
The Jim Crow Laws Jim Crow Laws guaranteed that African Americans were treated as second class citizens without the freedom and liberties promised by our nation’s constitution. Many segregation laws, called The Jim Crow Laws, were already in place throughout the South before the Supreme Court’s Decision in Plessy v Ferguson. Growing up as a Native American was kind of rough on people, they were separated from others. They were only allowed to use certain water fountains, certain bathrooms plus they had to wait for the Americans to get done before they could walk into a grouchy store. Religious liberty, like free speech, is not an absolute right.
Plessy got arrested for this, and lost his case in court. Another reason Reconstruction was a failure was because of black codes. Black codes made rules that were similar to slavery laws. These rules limited African American’s freedom. It requires them to sign a work contract, which they could be arrested if they do not own one.
Nelson Mandela and Martin King lived many similar situations which led to their great effort. Commonly, in the past, South Africa’s issues was based on the bad relationship between black and white people were the black people’s rights are completely oppressed. During apartheid, the government divided people into four racial groups and moved some of them, so the system was used to deny the black people rights and needs. For instance, non-white people must carry a special permission paper to give them the ability to work and live in specific areas, also people from different color cannot marry each other or even own a land in some areas which it was owned by white people. As the intolerant situation was spread in South Africa against black Africans, black people of the U.S.A in the 1960s faced the same cases.
Have been mistreated for a certain color, race or left out because of it? Well that my friend, is segregation. The issues of segregation is wrong! Segregation has been a problem ever since which the difference of skin color and being a certain type of race. Segregation is wrong because of the following 14th amendment written in the Constitution, people 's UNFAIR rights and the equality.
