It has been the most influential conflict in my short life. This conflict was and is a long and awful war with many failures and successes. My war began when I was in fifth grade. I had some health problems throughout the school year that I paid little attention to. Later, near the beginning of my sixth grade school year, I was at home when all of a sudden I felt really light headed and my father saw that my face was extremely pale. Within a few days, I was at the doctor’s office with a blood pressure cuff gripping my arm as I sat down, then stood up at a normal speed over and over again. The results of that test, and an electrocardiogram (EKG), showed that I had Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (P.O.T.S.). For me, P.O.T.S. would cause severe headaches, blood pressure drops, dizziness, and lethargy. It would affect not only my academic life, but my social life as well; yet, …show more content…
Once diagnosed, I finally understood the majority of my health problems and why they were happening. The major symptoms that I experienced were headaches and lethargy. My headaches were not labeled migraines, but I think I can imagine how migraines feel with all the headaches I have had. The minor symptoms didn’t show up every day, but certain weeks a certain symptom, especially dizziness, would happen. Around halfway through sixth grade, I was physically unable to go to school, so every week homebound teachers would come to teach me the four main subjects. Now, at that time it had started to affect my social life. With not being able to go to school hindered the chance of seeing my friends at all. Being unable to go outside and play with my friends put a divide between all of us. On top of everything, I lost my confidence, especially when trying to socialize. I had lost all contact with my friends, and neither my friends nor I tried to keep in
Death, destruction, famine and starvation. These are only four of the millions of horrible impacts war leaves. People live in fear and are constantly afraid of others that they see wondering if they are reckless civilians or soldiers. A Long Way Gone is the autobiography of Ishmael Beah, a 15 year old boy soldier fighting in the Civil War in Sierra Leone. This war started on March 23, 1991 and went through January 18, 2002.
"A Long Way Gone: Memoirs Of A Boy Soldier" by Ishmael Beah, has permanently altered my understanding of "Civil War". Due to the way Ishmael Beah talked about his own near death experiences, children who read his book can now have knowledge of war, from a child's perspective. The absurd savagery Ishmael was exposed to, taught him lessons a child like myself should never have to learn. Reading this book has brought light of the many intentional and unintentional consequences of war. Ishmael had been born in Mogwemo, a poor segregated village, like most of the regions in Sierra Leone.
War, a state of armed conflict between different nations, states, or groups. Although small, this three letter word signifies so much more than a conflict for those involved. It symbolizes the loss of hope, faith, family, a home, someone’s childhood, and most importantly the feeling of safety. A Long Way Gone: Memoirs of a Boy Soldier by Ishmael Beah, is an eye opener to those who have been lucky enough to escape the clutches of war. The book describes Beah’s struggle during the war in Sierra Leone, where at the age of twelve he joined the “army”.
More often than not, soldiers and people in a war zone will be affected by the war one way or another. Either that being during or after the war, one could have a negative or positive outlook on the war, but one single event could automatically change that person's behavior. During 1957-1973, the longest war in the United States history took place, the Vietnam War. Many soldiers have lost their lives in this battle, but the ones that survived have significantly changed from this event.
War is happening all over the world and is an important issue in society. Why would one nation fight another? Is it for power? Whatever the reason may be, war is definitely leaves an impact on one’s life. War is a pitiful cause that can invoke an inevitable negative change within one.
War exists everywhere in the world we live in today. Although it’s not always about why the war is happening that we should specifically focus on, but rather who is involved or taking part in the war that should be the main focus. For example, in the story called “A Long Way Gone” a boy named Ishmael Beah is born in Sierra Leone during a rough period of war between two violent groups, which were the rebels and the government's military. In this war, both sides used children of all ages as soldiers. And unfortunately for Beah, he joined the military and was turned into a child soldier at a very young age because he had no other choice if he wanted survive.

War is a devastating site to witness for anyone, but imagine being child in the middle of a civil war having to decide whether to kill or be killed. A twelve year old boy named Ishmael Beah, along with many other children, faced this challenge during the Sierra Leone Civil War. He later wrote about his journey in his memoir A Long Way Gone. Ishmael’s story consists of a conflict between the government and rebels.
The Vietnam War was one of the most divisive wars of all time. It changed how many people view the country and war and social ideas as a whole. It created the heated political parties we have today, It lead to one of the biggest anti war movements for a while, and also helped shape the future for civil rights at the time. The Vietnam War may have been one of the most polarizing war but it was also extremely important to the shaping of this country.
War is a conflictive topic because it can be both positive and negative depending on the situation. For example, during the American Revolution, Americans fought a war with Great Britain to gain their independence and freedom. On the other hand, many innocent people were killed because the dead pay the living’s debts. In the novel My Brother Sam is Dead, Tim has to make a decision about which side he believes is right, leaving him caught between his brother and his father. However, in the end, Tim chooses neutrality based on the injustices of Jerry, Sam, and Life’s deaths.
Misdiagnosed November was when the pain started. I was dizzy at church one Wednesday night. I did not think much of it. Though, now, I think I should have. Looking back, I should have mentioned it to someone there or I should gone home early, but I did not.
Throughout time, war has plagued the earth with its devious nature and gruesome conflict. However, as humans seek to create a civilization ideal for living, complete with peace and order, they must first suffer through the perils of war. One of the bloodiest conflicts in American history was that of the Civil War, which as seen in Killer Angels by Michael Shaara, was not only very complicated in strategy, but also in motivation. Both sides, Confederate and Union, had their own reasons for fighting. The North fought for preservation of the entire nation while The South fought for preservation of themselves.
With all of the problems in today’s society, war is the most heavily debated dilemma because it can have a positive and negative effect depending on a person’s view about it. War has some good effects like erasing injustice and ending tyranny. However, there are also negative effects, due to the brutality of war and all of the innocent lives lost. In the book, My Brother Sam is Dead, it explains what it was like to live during the Revolutionary War, though the eyes of a boy named Tim. Not only does he have to witness this life changing battle, but he also ends up having a inner-battle with himself.
It had affected me the most. I was constantly thinking about what I was going through. My grades began to slip away, and I did not want to play sports anymore. It was like a car had suddenly hit me out of nowhere and threw all this on me. My life was really beginning to change and I was not prepared for it at
In the short story “Ambush” by Tim O’Brien he tells us his first hand encounters with war and how it has impacted his everyday life. In the short story he starts out by saying, “ When she was nine, my daughter, Kathleen asked if I had ever killed anyone.” (O’Brien 811) The quote stated above shows how war can have an impact on people that are directly involved with the war. When we are at war does
