The power of one is the idea that every single individual has the ability to make a difference in their organization or community. Any individual has the potential to create change; with enough influence people are able to lead a major movement in society. The reason that the power of one works is because it ends up being the power of all. It 's like a domino effect that once one person starts it, everyone else starts to jump in slowly. People can win over others just with their influence which is a great tool for without much power. In George Couros article of (“Connected Learning”) he states five characteristics for the change agent. Clear vision as in communication with others, Patience, Ask tough questions, knowledgeable and leads by example, strong relationships with trust. Each of these characteristics is necessary for someone who is trying to create huge change. In all these …show more content…
By doing this you can get things done faster and better. It is like having many clones and being able to rely on someone else is a good trait to learn. It establishes trust and loyalty amongst humans, some of the most basic traits of people as a society. As stated by Brian Tracy a person must be motivated to do something to actually be able to help you. Every human is motivated by something and the person that is trying to win them over should be able to find out what it is. Many great leaders find commonplace with the people either through oppression or hate. Many people who are oppressed do not want much but fair human rights and that is why their motivation is so high. Once one brave individual speaks out for the weak everyone follows. Many examples throughout history have occurred due this and may still occur in the future. As long as people are motivated and there is someone to lead then one person will always have the opportunity to change the
Every single miniscule act towards change started with a few people who forced the world to listen to them, proving again and again that the individual is the strongest tool that society has. People need leaders. Even if they all agree passionately, there has to be at least one person for people to look to to avoid dissapating
“He had given me the power of one, one idea, one heart, one mind, one plan, one determination”(). In the novel The Power of One by Bryce Courtenay, the power of one, as shown by the quote is to focus on the one. Hoppie gives Peekay his first idea of the power of one, a solid idea of where one stands. One idea of how they feel and where they are going. Peekay takes this and usis this power of one throughout the novel.
Being a great leader requires being open to letting the power improve your self; living in a nation where the person in charge is exhibiting ill treatment of their position can lead to disunity
All societies want a leader who helps others and who is willing to do anything for his
Due to the chaos and the threat that oppressed factions demonstrated during their fight against the oppressor and place a leader in charge that will be the voice of minorities. As Schock states in his case study, factions do not require to be violent to in order to their demand met, all they require is unity as a group and to know that their fight will take time, but the overall goal will benefit their generation and future generations to
Along with being a leader, adaptability and the ability to change something is an important aspect of of being an effective leader. For example, in a volleyball match, we do not always get a perfect pass or play so we sometimes have to do whatever it takes to just keep the ball in play and get it onto the other side. Being able to change according to what is given is an important trait. However, being able to change one's ways for the better as a whole does not imply backing down to what you believe in or letting others manipulate you into thinking like them. Having the ability to persist and be dependable is the outcome of a strong character and someone who is capable of being a leader for others.
As long as some world leaders are given so much power, human rights for everyone is unimaginable. The most well-known example of a leader using his power for evil would be Hitler. Hitler had the power to take the rights away from his people way too easily. For example, Elie Wiesel writes in his memoir, Night, “In the wagon where the bread had landed, a battle had
All of our great leaders had one thing in common. Leadership. All of our great leaders have a different approach. Leaders have to have great attitude, they have to know what they want, and they have to always be accepting of the truth. Being a leader doesn’t mean being a President or a Vice President, people like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass made a huge impact on the abolitionist movement, and they were fugitive slaves!
“He had given me the power of one-one idea, one heart, one mind, one plan, one determination.” (103) Peekay uses this quote with the recurring title, “The Power of One”. This is the first time he mentions the power of one however and it is just after he reads the letter from Hoppie Groenewald, a man who works on the train that Peekay rides for the first time; Hoppie is also a welterweight boxer and the reason Peekay begins boxing altogether. Peekay has influential people in his life at different times, but almost everyone of these characters seem to die. So, peekay is left alone, one.
Various reasons prove this, though the people believe that they are better best served before the state, history only shows the most benevolent and the most hated rulers. So if a ruler rules just to be well-liked history does not show that they had any significance because none of the people are left to remember what acts of kindness they performed. If a leader is feared but provides huge expansion and sets up their state to be successful in the future they are remembered as important to causing their state to be the way it is today. In truth, all people serve to their own interests and will turn on anyone who goes against it unless they are controlled. It is nearly impossible to control people with their love for ruler because they will not love the ruler once the ruler goes against their interests, but if they fear the ruler they will fear going against them and stay under the influence of their ruler.
Bass & Riggio (2005, pp. 4-8) explains that transformational leaders inspire their followers to exceed their own expectations and perceived capabilities and is comprised of the four components of idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation and individualised consideration. DuBrin (2016, p.163) suggest that leaders in a time of crisis need to
