The theme of love is often associated with peace and kindness. However, in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers’ suicidal impulse shows love as a cause of self-destructive violence, as seen through their thoughts, words and actions. Firstly, Romeo and Juliet’s suicidal thoughts reveal the violence caused by their love. In other words, it is their intense passion for each other that leads to their contemplation of suicide. For instance, when Romeo is told of Juliet’s supposed death, he immediately thinks of killing himself and begins to plan his suicide, as demonstrated by the following quote: “Well, Juliet, I will lie with thee tonight. Let’s see for means.” This shows that his love for Juliet is so powerful that he cannot even consider
Although Paris would provide many positive things for the Capulets, as said in Act I Scene II, “so shall you share all that you (Juliet and Paris) doth possess, by having him, making yourself no less” meaning that by marrying Paris, Juliet would not be taking away any of her status, she would actually be raising it. She would also possess, or have, everything Paris had. Juliet does not want this, as we know from Act III Scene V, saying: “Which she hath praised him with above compare. So many thousand times? Go, counsellor;Thou and my bosom henceforth shall be twain.” meaning although Paris is said to be higher in comparison, Romeo is right for her. Juliet was captivated by the thought of her Prince Charming, her husband, Romeo. Juliet was so blinded by loving Romeo, she did not care about riches or status. Juliet knew there was more to love than a high ranking, and that she needed someone who would stick by her side and treat her well. This tells us how people at even a young age of 14 know the meaning of love. This proves that teenagers can process the idea of love
The majority of people regard adolescence as a tumultuous time, so it comes as no surprise that it is the focus of many literary works. Few, however, match the grandness of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. In the timeless tale, two “star-crossed lovers” meet their demise. Undoubtedly, their actions are lamentable, but fault lies on more sources than solely them. Romeo and Juliet cannot be entirely blamed for their love’s outcome because of rampant emotions, neglectful parents, and an increased enticement in harmful activities.
While two young men by the name of Romeo and Paris, share the same love for the same Juliet but are different in many ways and alike in many ways. “Virtue itself turns vice, being misapplied, and vice sometime by action dignified” (2.3 27-28). This is a quote by Friar Laurence, a character in William Shakespeare’s play, Romeo and Juliet, and it means that good intentions may lead to bad consequences. This captures the essence of this tragedy, as the good intentions of flawed characters lead to the demise of the play’s main characters, Romeo and Juliet. Three characters best exemplify this observation – Juliet’s nurse, the Friar, and Romeo.
Author Stieg Larsson once wrote, “Impulsive actions led to trouble, and trouble could have unpleasant consequences.” In the play Romeo and Juliet, written by William Shakespeare, each characters have a flaw that are used against their circumstances. Very rarely does a character in this story thought about the consequences of their actions before they did something, resulting in devastating outcomes. Granted, the main characters of the story have a noticeable weakness that contributes to their tragic ends. Romeo and Juliet both have a fatal flaw of being too impulsive when it comes to love and decisions.
It 's a dark, shocking scene in Verona where three people lost their lives in a matter of seconds. Two young lovers, tears still dripping down their pale faces. Romeo, who took poison in hopes to meet his lover once again, left his mother lying dead on the ground, traumatized by the horrific scene. It may seem that it is faith that causes the deaths of these people, but in reality, it is much more complicated than that. Romeo and Juliet fell in love and got married because of Romeo, knowing that their families would not accept the relationship, and that it may fuel the feud. In fact, deaths were caused by such unwise decisions taken by Romeo. There are many examples throughout the William Shakespeare 's tragedy Romeo and Juliet that illustrate the point that Romeo 's unwise choices lead to the six deaths in the play.
Emotions are what propel you forward to reach your goal, but what also stop you from breaking your limits. They are what weigh into our decisions and help lead us to the choices we forever live with. Not only can they determine what we do, but also when and how we do it. At times they are stronger than others, pulling us forward or throwing us back as if we have absolutely no control. Just like in Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, the entire lives of two teenagers led by the emotions that they couldn’t ignore. Consequently, this leads them to make decisions that are irreversible, and significant. Decisions that change the lives of not only themselves, but the ones who love them. It opened the eyes of those who had been blinded by hatred, changing the way they viewed the delicate concept of life and death. The power of their emotions was so strong, that there was no escaping them. In the play, Shakespeare displays the power of emotions by the actions of not only Romeo and Juliet, but their families as well. The strength of their emotions are strong enough to cause them happiness, chaos, and eventually tragedy.
