A. TOPIC & GOAL The topic I have chosen to focus on for this research project is the healing power music has on a person?s soul. There is a lot of information out there on this subject and I will be focusing my writing on the book How Music Helps in Music Therapy and Everyday Life, the documentary Alive Inside, as well as a few other articles. Emotion and music seem to go hand in hand. I want to have a better understanding about why you feel certain emotions when listening to a particular song and how those emotions and feelings can help a person through a difficult time or healing process.

There were so many ideas to use that it was hard to narrow it down to ten. I found my main ideas through the book How Music Helps in Music Therapy and Everyday Life and the article The Role of Music in Everyday Life: Current Directions in the Social Psychology of Music, both of which were found on EBSCOhost. I quickly knew from the preface of How Music Helps in Music Therapy and Everyday Life, that this was a book that would help me in my research. The very first thing I read was:
Music triggered a healing process from within me. I started singing for the joy of singing myself?and it helped me carry my recovery beyond the state I was in before I fell ill nine years ago? to a level of wellbeing that I haven?t had perhaps for thirty years...
