There is two parts in this book, Part One, ‘Theoretical Preliminaries’ gives a general idea of what stylistics involves. It presents a set of techniques applicable to the description of any piece of language, and discusses various theoretical concepts necessary for classifying the varieties of language into types. English is the focus of the discussion, but it is felt that the techniques could be generalized to other languages. In chapter two ‘Linguistic Description’, they explain two models of linguistic description used in this book: models of non-segmental phonology and grammar. They analyze the language of conversation, unscripted commentary, religion, newspaper reporting, and legal documents. They have tried to maintain balance between spoken and written materials, to present a range of usage running from the most to the least familiar and concentrate attention on those varieties which have been largely ignored. The first extract, the language of conversation was an appropriate choice with which to begin, because it is the variety which is most familiar to most speakers. Then they move on to spoken commentary, which provides a clear illustration of the wide range of vocal effects available in English. Then in chapter six they investigate the language of religion where both speech and writing have their own distinctive parts to play. In chapter seven they investigate the linguistic features of journalese. In chapter eight, they provide an analysis to legalese which is further removed from conversation than any other. Each chapter is followed by exercises designed to raise points not dealt with in the body of the chapter. The final chapter presents suggestions for further analysis. By examining this book we come to the conclusion that Stylistics is not concerned solely with literary language, nor is it concerned directly with evaluation, with personal opinion about the way language is being used from the view point of enjoyment. Stylistics aims hopefully to give a more objective basis for comprehension, appreciating and sharpening this response. This theory is award winning. Activity theory states that for a system to be effective, the rules, community, subject, division of labor, and motives must be reasonable. These components are shown through the chosen tool of communication most often. The main point of this article, in my opinion, is summed up on page ninety four. “A foundation and critical challenge for the Emerging church will be teaching people that they are the church and that they do not simply attend or go to one.” When the focus is brought to the Church as a building there seems to be a bigger issue. WE become more worried about the structure of the church and the materialistic things that come with the make-up of a church instead of what is truly important. To help further understand this Kimball provides the reader with valuable information, “However, the word Church was used (in scriptures) primarily to describe the followers of Jesus.”
The newsletter 'Getting our future back on the rails – slowly', published by the leader of the Grow Slow Garden Group, asserts the need and beneficial factors of transforming the abandoned railway yards that is a "shockingly neglected wasteland" into a "fresh, natural land". In a firm and eloquent tone, the writer conveys that they are not a "radical group of environmentalists" but just a group who is "proud to be contributing to a greener Australia". The emphasis on this positions the readers to believe that anybody can promote to a greener and better Australia. Throughout the newsletter the writer's main contention is clear.
As discussed in the article by Clive Thompson, many people use different ways of speaking. Based on text conversations, social media posts, and comments language has made a drastic change. TBH grammar has made like a huge change on society. Lookin at billboards and social media, people post is a totally diff manner than speaking. Many share the misconception that racism is a problem of the past. To them, prejudice has entirely ceased to exist, and today, humanity bears witness to a nondiscriminatory world. The flippant citing of Martin Luther King’s “I Have a Dream,” perhaps even validates this new, egalitarian society emerging; however, such a society is merely an illusion. In fact, a minor offense as simple as citing “I Have a Dream” may not seem a big deal; however, many anthropologists contend that the telltale signs of institutionalized racism are present in these seemingly innocent actions. Furthermore, scholars Elizabeth Barnert and Terry Jones examine the state of institutionalized racism in their respective articles.

The children, during the time of the writing of the book, spoke very informally, especially boys like Huck and Tom who cared little of school.

The main kind of detail Amy Tan used in her essay was discussing how the difficult English language is .and how the new learners struggle learning it, they must go through the difficult process of learning the traditional language. The two points the strikes or interested me is when she described her mom’s language as “broken language” and the second point was when she called it “limited English”. These word touched my hart because I still remembered when I came to the USA and how difficult to speak the language.
During the semester, I wrote the summary and response, the rhetorical analysis and the argument essay. Personally I feel that I benefitted most from the summary and response because it was the longest summary and response I have written. I used to write only one-paragraph summary and response. Therefore, writing a long summary and response taught me so many things. Besides, the rhetorical analysis and the argument easy helped me a lot.
From everyday experience, readers know how things usually happen and how people react. A distortion of action or an understatement of effect gets a special response from readers, because they consider these changes improbable or the unexpected. The reader has to be alert to the actions of character because actions are the author’s way of showing, not telling, what the characters are like Appearance may be taken as a due to the nature of a character if the author leads the reader to attaché significance to it. Literary analysis is not pure description or a summary of the action, although it may include these elements.
