Since last time I journaled, practicum has been advancing very well. I have obtained a total of 140 hours by the end of this week. I am feeling like I am slightly behind in my hours, only because I took reading week off last week. I was conflicted between taking a week off and going home to visit my family or staying in town and continuing practicum to get some more hours. I ended up deciding to take the week off because I was starting to feel very overwhelmed by the weight of the semester and decided to take the week off as a form of self-care for myself. At practicum, I have been continuing to experience lots of new and exciting things. Some of the major highlights recently have been leading a girls group at Nesdeyoh Elementary and one …show more content…
Debriefing is something we have always been taught about in school, from day one. Before experiencing practicum hands-on, I almost dismissed the importance of it. Now that I am experiencing real interactions with clients and hearing about their struggles, trauma and crimes they have committed, I get it. I am lucky enough to be doing practicum in a setting that really focuses on the importance of debriefing. My direct supervisor is always ready to debrief with me after any interaction with a client or any major event that happens during the day. Above and beyond that, I have noticed how much debriefing helps others. My one colleague has had some experiences in the past couple of weeks that have been less than pleasant and her strategy to cope with these experiences has been to get together in the back room (safe space) and discuss the situation with everyone in the office. Its amazing to watch and see the impact simply talking about it can have one someone, instead of carrying that with you when you leave, debriefing allows you to talk about it in professional setting and hopefully leave it at work after
It builds more efficient manager and employee team when it comes to projects. The employees understand the roles that they play within the organization. Managers are better equipped to correct their staff without the feeling of hostility. This will create a higher moral among employees, thus making the work environment more healthy and positive. We at CEN Solutions suggest that you create an organization flow chart to improve your communication process.
I researched the roles and contributions of a physician assistant in the medical field. I did not realize how much physician assistants could do until I researched it. Also, the contributions that physician assistants make go unnoticed by many, they are trained to be just as proficient as physicians. For my product extension, I learned how to do back exercises on a pain management patient, and I will have a demonstration video with a handout. I may intend to pursue a career being a physician assistant, but if I later change my mind, I will pursue a career in dentistry.
I was fortunate to be placed in Ms. Gohil’s classroom because her classroom was dedicated to students with special needs. This allowed me to experience first hand what an actual special education teacher does during a typical class day. I also was able to see paraprofessional work with the students on constant bases, not like my previous experience where the paraprofessional would only visit the child for approximately 20 - 30 mins per class period. What I also like was that I witnessed various behavioral changes from students and was able to see in real time how the teacher and paraprofessional handled these behaviors. At first, I did not understand some of the techniques that were being used, but then I would ask Ms. Gohil questions and
It is exciting to see where my future career can take
My journey began when The Deron School hired me as a paraprofessional. I learned so much about myself in a classroom setting of diverse learners. First, my strong qualities, such as patience, flexibility to change, and positivity, were simply demonstrated for this position. I have witnessed staff members resign due to stress from unpredictable circumstances. However, I can simply understand the rough days which strengthens my performance to find a solution.

I have always had the intense desire to care and look after people from a very young age. I firmly believe that everyone deserves the best quality of life possible and this is what had drawn me to occupational therapy as a career path in the first place. It is so easy to take for granted all the everyday tasks we can do and we seldom consider the effect of not being able to complete them. As an occupational therapist I would be able to make a positive impact on someone’s life and make it possible for them to enjoy their life. I want the opportunity to provide support to people, help them gain independence and watch them grow more confident in their own ability.
Now that I have been in The Fellowship Initiative for over a year, an extracurricular activity sponsored by JPMorgan Chase. I definitely see myself growing as a person. From advancing skills to building personal relationships with other people , I am glad that everything is falling into place in my life on a professional spectrum. In TFI we went on a trip this past summer to upstate New York for a camping trip called Outward Bound. For Outward Bound , we went away upstate for 10 days in the Catskill Mountains.
Group supervision has a ‘dual role’ of people gathering on knowledge and experiences where team dynamics are influenced (Berg and Hallberg, 2000). Peer supervision, generally more appropriate for experienced practioners (Spence et al, 2001), can be one-to-one or in a group arrangement. Lakeman & Glasgow (2009, p206) discuss peer supervision where professionals are capable of having the resources to help one other and to make sense of practice. It has been suggested that paired and group placements provide an opportunity for enhanced learning, clinical competence and participant satisfaction (Berg and Hallberg, 2000).
The Term reflection can have many meanings to many people. Reflection can carry meanings that range from the idea of professionals engaging in solitary introspection to that of engaging in deep meaningful conversations with others. But for this assignment I will focus on; what is refection in the clinical setting, why it is important for health care professionals to reflect and where the ideology of reflection came from. I will also provide a personal experience of reflection during my time in the clinical setting that helped me to come up with a solution to a challenging situation. WHAT IS REFLECTION?
One of the unique aspects of the Department of Child Development and Family Relations is that many of the department’s large core courses offer teaching assistant opportunities to undergraduate students. Teaching assistant opportunities are valuable for undergraduate students to decide whether to apply as a graduate teaching position, great addition to a resume, and for a letter of recommendation. From my teaching assistant experience, I was able to fully grasp the concepts of middle childhood development, form a new appreciation for professors and teaching assistants, and reflect on myself as a student. In addition, I had the opportunity to strengthen several essential skills such as organizational skills, leadership skills, and communication
I think that the structure of working in small groups increased my engagement in the whole process. I felt that the structure of the two components was clear and the style of facilitation helped creating a safe space for developing psychologists. When participating in a reflective group that gives feedback to your work as a psychologist you also experience the influence of the advice on you. It is a brief experience on how you can use the feedback you take from colleagues in a way to improve your work as a
Therefore, I learned a lot from my experience and I feel confident that I will be able to apply my skills to my personal life, academic journey and professional
The . passion grew stronger and stronger as I study Biology and Chemistry in A-levels. Studying these two subjects has opened my eyes and given me large insight into the workings of the human body which revealed to me indirectly that the body holds many secrets that are yet to be discovered. This alone is enough to excite me! Due to my compassionate and caring nature, I have participated in various activities these few years. I, together with my friends in school organized a carnival to raise funds for the needy.
Professional reflection As I began my field experience journey, I learned many roles and responsibilities as elementary teacher. My duration in the field was nine weeks. I began training at E. R. Dickson. I developed a great working relationship with the staff and parents in the community. I always knew teaching is my passion.
