If I go back to my second practicum, in the same school, I have no difficulties with classroom management. I remember that when I was in my first practicum in SPH Cikarang, one of Chemistry teacher told me that in higher grade, teacher emphasized the content rather than classroom management, yet it is still important. They already had awareness to study and prepare for the exam. I taught grade 9 and 10 in my second practicum. There, my content was being tested and fortunately, I could teach them the right concepts even there were several students who could not understand well. Before the announcement of internship placement, I wished that I would teach senior high school. The announcement was out and I got grade 7-12. I taught that I would …show more content…
Games are really good to improve students’ motivation. I got some positive respond from students and they enjoyed the activities. Based on the theory, motivation can affect students’ achievement. The practices are also true. Only 3-5 students who did not pass the exam and the rest passed the exam. I did a variety of teaching because based on my previous mentor’s input in second practicum. I need to use more variety of teaching rather than just explaining directly to students and do drills. Drill is really works for motivated students, yet it is not really effective when implemented to unmotivated students. That’s why I give them games to motivate them learning math, and then I give them drill to deepen their understanding. The weakness of my method is that only those who have higher achievement in math active in tournament games. Other students are just silent and depend on those students. To solve this problem, I ask all of students to do the problems. If not, their score will be decreased. However, they still depend on smart students and wait for their answer. For further teaching, I will consider students who are less able in math so they can also give contribution to their group. For classroom management, I can control and manage class well. Sometimes I cannot hold my laugh when I see my students. I need to be more serious and stricter to
I am currently working for the drug and alcohol service Blenheim CDP, as part of the Insight team, volunteering in a multicultural and busy area of London. I work independently and as a team to support individuals and their families with issues caused by substance misuse. I provide screening, assessments, risk assessments; implementing, monitoring and reviewing SMART care plans. I build therapeutic relationships while maintaining professional boundaries with clients to deliver tailor-made packages of care using a strengths-based approach. I create supportive solutions by listening to their needs and looking further than their health requirements, working holistically to assist them with wider issues, such as employment, mental health and housing.
Reflection #4 What have you learned about the IEP process? The biggest take away from this class is how well I understand the parts of an IEP now. I’m able to look at an IEP and not feel so overwhelmed on what sections are supposed to address.
Teaching styles vary by age group and subject, but for elementary education, the best strategy options have been condensed into a select few. For example, when working with a younger age group, their attention spans are much shorter than that of an adult, therefore, teachers must adjust lesson plans to accommodate such things. For this reason, the best option is to teach with a variety of techniques and styles that take into account the need of students to be active and engaged (Ollington). For many young students, hearing, seeing, and moving during a lesson is the only way for them to completely comprehend a new idea (Tileston 20). Ordinarily, some options will work best with different groups than others, therefore successful teachers find
What does being an effective leader and reflective practitioner mean to you? To be an effective leader not only involve the complex interaction between the vast range of professional and personal experiences but also is rooted in personal reflection. Through reflection, a leader may explore, examine, and understand academic materials, personal experiences, and interpersonal relationships. Reflection is a critical component of being an effective leader.
Also, I was able to attend a year in college back in my hometown, The Philippines, and during my time there, my goal was just to graduate and finish college. However, my goal turned into a dream that put me motivated to reach it when I experienced a life-changing event. In this particular event, my department was assigned to be one of the hosts of the program ran by my school, which is "The feeding Program.” It is an event that supports children who were struck with extreme poverty. I helped with organizing the event; there were fun games and food for everyone.
As a sociology major, I have learned many sociological concepts that could be contributing factors that may help me with my future. Sociology is interesting seized my attention in the early stages of introductory course and has expanded significantly since then. The controversial aspect of the more abstract concepts engaged my attention and peeked my interest within a class setting. I had started as a sociology minor and with increased encouragement and continuous discussion about the inner working of how society works the Academic Center for Excellence; I pursued the degree as a minor until I reached my maximum amount of courses. Once I realized I only needed a handful of classes to get a degree in a subject that I could not get enough of, I decided to become a major.
During my junior year of high school, I was a member of the Bridgeport FFA Agricultural Issues Forum, a competitive speaking event in which a team of three to seven students composes a fifteen-minute presentation over a current issue in agricultural industries that describes every standpoint (even if they are conflicting) on the issue, and professionally answer educated questions about the issue, without clearly advocating any one side. My team and I chose the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) proposed redefinition of the term “waters of the United States” in the Clean Water Act to be the issue in our presentation. And, although our presentation remained neutral, we were all personally against the EPA’s redefinition. Because of this, we were somewhat anxious when we performed our presentation for the senior policy advisor for agriculture of EPA region six, Eugene Thilsted, and his associates. We weren’t worried that our presentation was too one-sided, for we included equal amounts of substantial information for both sides; however, we were unsure whether they would agree with the validity of all the information, for some of the information we found was given in different manners depending on the bias of the source.
An experience at my practicum agency that I had to manage my prejudiced/biased thoughts, feelings, or reactions in order to work effectively with an individual really only had to do with me as being a person observing. I was riding along on a drug and alcohol counseling appointment and the AODA counselor asked what I thought about sponsorship and what it meant to be one. I really was trying to not be a part of the treatment but my supervisor mentioned I had been talking to the client frequently about the 12 steps. I told him what I thought about the position of sponsor and what it means to the individual. I didn’t tell him where I got my information from or how much research had been done in the formulation of my stand/belief on the subject,
However, as per the research of Willam et al.2010, the hurdles are teacher’s reluctance in regards to divergence from pre-planned lesson objectives. The research shows that teachers are reluctant to divert the learning from pre-planned lessons. During my teaching experience, I observed a sequence of maths lesson based on the school’s scheme of work. In the first lesson, children were introduced to the Cuisenaire-rods. The learning objective was to identify the different number
High school has been an intersecting experience for me. I have learned and experienced a lot of new things. I also accomplished a lot of goals for things that I always wanted to try. Also I will be leaving East Wake Academy with a lasting legacy that will make it easier for other students to pursue opportunities of their own. My time at East Wake Academy has been well valued; being there has allowed me to pursue opportunities that I would have never imagined could happen.
I am feeling very happy with my internship. My schedule is working out wonderfully and can be flexible when needed. I have completed 36.5 hours of internship work. My current focus has been putting together the attendance incentive program for the school. My work has lead me to prepare a proposal that includes guidelines and rewards for the program.
Some students feel like math is a new language. When students fail to work in a math class they may feel scare and try to ran away math as much as possible in the future. Some math teacher doesn’t know the beauty of math. Many students think that they do not need math in future for example some want to be a footballer but they thought they don’t need math of course even football need math like having angles. Some of the students aren’t patience of wronging so they try to avoid math as much as possible.
If one student struggles with a certain area, like math, for example, then the teacher should set time aside and explain in a way that can be understood for the student. It should also be noted that not all students will grasp concepts in the same way. Bob may understand a math or science problem the way it was taught out loud in class, but Susie may get it in a complete different way when the teacher has a one on one with her and come up with a different way for Susie to
The motivational psychology researchers discovered several useful approaches and practices that can be implemented in the classroom for effective learning to take place (Miller, 2012). Teachers are using differentiation to support teaching and learning. Differentiation can vary in pace, activities, resources, teaching and learning styles in an attempt to best meet the needs of individual student. Various teaching strategies such as cooperative learning, active learning, role play and games and pedagogic tools are being integrated in educational theories in meaningful and useful ways to encourage task or learning achievements.
