The author had an opportunity to be involved with a personnel issue at the practicum work site. A teacher was reported as being dishonest about a practicum time that she needed to fulfill her assignment towards an endorsement in visual impairments. The report stated that she was supposed to be working with a group of students, but instead of fulfilling this duty, had gone home and indicated that she had completed the task. As a first step, the author wanted to consider and verify that there had not been a misunderstanding about the assignment. A supervisor needs to be supportive so the employee will feel valued and continue to grow on the job. In this particular case, the author had made the assignment well-known in both verbal and written …show more content…
The author did not believe that the teacher had done this act out of the lack of skill, knowledge, or ability, but indeed the actions were a purposeful misconduct. Regardless of where the problem originated, it was proven to be true, and a well carried out a disciplinary process needed to be put in place to deal with the problem. A discipline that is effective can help protect the organization and everyone involved. If there are mixed messages about what needed to be done, everyone suffers. In addition to this, a well-planned improvement plan can bring a resolution before the challenge gets out of hand. However, the burden for improvement needs to remain on the shoulders of the teacher. The teacher was fully aware of what she was doing and the consequences, but still decided to do it. Furthermore, the author had to find just cause in the actions of the teacher and respond in fairness. Rules and consequences had been developed and clearly communicated to the teacher. Nevertheless, a fair investigation was conducted, and the author balanced this with consistency. The author listened to the teacher’s story and took part in a more in-depth investigation. The purpose of the investigation was to find out if there were reasons behind her actions that would eliminate or reduce the …show more content…
In the previous essay that explained the personnel issue that the author worked on, four different types of technology were used. The forms that were used for the various parts of the performance plan were available to the author online. An attachment of these forms is available after the essay portion of the task. Having internet access and particularly email, the forms were sent from the human resource office to the author to be used during the process. The author used an excel sheet to chart the visits and the time involved. The author and the teacher needed to communicate directly and confidentially. The author used Google Doc for this. When the author sent a file to the teacher, it was encrypted so that only she and the author would have access to it. This made all documentation needed to complete the plan was confidential. The author also used the internet for professional development on honesty and integrity and also for classes on the subject given by the Utah Professional Development Network. Thus, it was convenient for her to participate without disrupting her class time. It also provided a means to ensure that the teacher understood the concept of integrity and that she realized what she had done wrong and why. Finally, the author and the teacher had weekly meetings, and it was not always convenient to drive an hour to fulfill

Instead of punishing him for his decision, I questioned his thought process of why he had brought the to school. By confronting Travis in a private setting, I was able to find the origin of the problem so that a proper solution could be enforced. Similar to Weiner’s stories about Sonya and Danny, the teachers in the situations chose to find the reason why rules were broken instead on instantly punishing the students. Weiner explains that “When we see our students as human beings like ourselves rather than as ‘the other,’ we can separate the person from the act and intervene appropriately” (Weiner/Jerome 89). By allowing ourselves, as teachers, to step away as the authoritative figure, we can make a better connection with
In this case, Ray Knight’s parents (plaintiffs) are seeking liability compensation against the School District (defendants) for the alleged negligence of their son’s middle school. School officials gave Ray Knight a three day suspension for unexcused absences. Although, the School District’s policy is to give parents phone notification and written notification through the mail for student suspension, Knight’s middle school officials sent the written notice home with Knight. In an attempt to hide the information from his parents, Knight crumpled the notification and disposed of it away.
Infuriating Insult In “The Speech The Graduates Didn’t Hear,” Dr. Neusner attempted to sway his audience (the American student) into the unpleasant realization that life after college isn’t as simple as they had anticipated. Acknowledging that a majority of his audience won’t see him again, he utilized a strict, rational appeal rather than a typical inspirational speech. Despite verbally insulting his audience, his intention was to motivate and trigger a response that would yield a more industrious group of graduates. Dr. Neusner established his persona as an authoritative college professor that does not care whether his audience condemns him.
Reporter’s said the school principal acted reasonably through the whole case. Reynold’s required pages of the article to be deleted completely instead of having the student’s work on changes because of time
The school's method of teaching using such harsh discipline may have just been their way of preparing them for what the future might hold for
What kind of imagery comes to mind when the word savage its said aloud? What kind of connotation does you think drives this word? Primitive, barbarian, negligent? Because if so, it’s a perfect word that depicts what author Jonathan Kozol, in his book Savage Inequalities: Children in America’s School, is trying to portray about the United States School System. His book opens the eyes of the reader to the worse and best of what schooling in the U.S is.
Every students learns things different ways, and Torey made sure she taught to accommodate each individual child’s learning style. She also taught them etiquette and manners and defined what typical classroom behavior consisted of. The students, in turn, listened to her and respected her both as an educator and a role model in life. They all had their kinks, but the all worked together and figured them out together. It was sort of a type of family concept.

This isn 't the first time that "bureaucratic determinism," where administrators declare themselves powerless to exert discretion and end up punishing students for infractions that even they agree didn 't contain any elements of threat or aggression, has triggered calls for a more lenient approach. Public outrage and media exposure have succeeded in reversing sanctions in cases such as suspensions when a student makes a "finger gun" (some schools interpret any such displays as threats). It 's an uphill battle, though, and the stone rolls down as soon as it reaches the top. A 13-year-old girl received a three-day suspension from a Texas middle school for a finger gun in 2010, making headlines; in December 2012, the hammer of justice came down on a 6-year-old, who received a one-day suspension from a Maryland elementary school for the same reason. That incident made the Washington Post, with over a thousand comments lambasting the school administrators for overreacting; nonetheless, in October of 2013, an 8-year-old was suspended for a day in Florida, also for making a finger

In most instances, the daily human resource activities are standard; it is the potential nuances of government contracting, which presents the challenge for most human resource offices. Another notable challenge for the human resource department is the training of the key leaders and managers. As mentioned earlier, for example the annual evaluations. In some cases, managers have not had extensive training in managing personnel nor how to properly conduct an annual evaluation and establish proper expectations.
