James Madison was the 4th President of the United States. Some of you might remember him from his attributes during the war of 1812. President James Madison was well known for being the Father of the Bill of Rights. President Madison was a man that did not pose an intimidating appearance in the least, but a man who was very knowledgeable on any political issue, and could adjust to the changing trends and demands during his Presidency. Further, I would like to take a moment and expand on the men that fought in the war of 1812 and to the thousands of men that lost their lives fighting for a country they loved, their bravery and courage exemplifies a true hero. With this in mind President Madison already had five thousand soldiers whom they felt was suitable for duty. Meanwhile, Congress began to debate for several days concerning President Madison concerns for additional fighting power for the war. Eventually after days of deliberation congress came back with an animus decision of 97/22 votes in favor of the President. The Senators Giles proposal was to raise the amount to twenty five thousand men for the period of five years. Surprisingly, President Madison was given an additional twenty thousand more soldiers than his original request to congress for the amount of only five thousand. Amazingly, on January 11, 1812, President Madison signed the Giles Bills that significantly increase the amount to Thirty Five thousand more soldiers. As was previously stated, I have expounded on the military concerns of the President during the war of 1812, his concerns to congress, and the vital role of congress in response to his request for additional soldiers during the war. Finally, the bravery of the men and the many sacrifices they had to endure during the war of 1812 would never be forgotten.
