Have you ever been effected by school bulling? In the story Pricilla and the Wimps the bully Monk Clutter had the school under his control with his gang called Klutters Kobras. They had gone around the school taking lunch money from everyone. His self centered attitude had lead him too far over his head. While picking on a boy named Melvin he had finally met his match. Not by little Melvin but by a girl named Pricilla. Yes a girl. This story is a low level comedy that uses wordplay, hyperbole and caricatures to convey the message that you should never get caught up in things that re not right because it is going to hurt you later on. In the story the author uses wordplay to create a high level and low level comedy first the types of wordplay are puns and one liners. To understand a pun which is a high comedy you have to know a bit before you understand because puns use words but have a different meaning to them. In Pricilla and the Wimps one of the puns is “Pricilla was sort of above everything, if you pardon a pun.” (page 344 Paragraph 4.) for one liners which are low …show more content…
One caricature that was in Pricilla and the Wimps was “Melvin's one of the smallest guys above midget status ever seen.” (page 344 paragraph 3.) another caricature that was used in the story is “ Melvin and the Kobra are standing in Pricilla's big shadow.” (page 344 paragraph 9.) In the story Richard Peck used caricatures to show that Melvin was really small. This made me smile because he was really small but Richard Peck had made him seem smaller by says that he was just above midget status. Pricilla was portrayed as very big because the caricature that they were standing in her shadow could not have really been big enough to fully cover them and they are in a school so it would be hard to have a shadow big enough because of all the
Bullying is a very terrible and overwhelming experience for any person to experience. Most people being bullied find that standing up for themselves is not an option because of the allusion that they have no power over the antagonizer. So imagine if the bullies were a fourth the age of the patronize victim. In Carolyn Thompson’s article,“ Bullied NY Bus Monitor Teaches Kindness Year Later” we hear the heart-wrenching story of an elderly bus monitor named Karen Klein, who witnesses that strangers affection expressed through a generous donation of an exponential sum of money can surpass the viciousness of a few immature boys. Thompson expresses her belief that Klein deserves this exceptional amount of money through the entirety of her article.
This story is similar to the short story “Priscilla and the Wimps” because they both center around the theme of bullying and standing up for others. In “Priscilla and the Wimps”, Priscilla uses violence to stand up for Melvin, who is getting bullied by Monk. Priscilla is similar to the character, Jack, from “Wonder” and Melvin is similar to the character, Auggie, from “Wonder”. In both stories, Melvin and Auggie are frequently bullied. Though, in “Priscilla and the Wimps” it was never stated that Melvin was frequently bullied, I can make the assumption that he is a very easy target for the Klutter Kobra’s due to his small stature.
On the second to last day of school, during recess, third graders ran around the blacktop. On the aforementioned day, clouds filled the sky and a light rain was wetting the playground. While his classmates played, a third grader threw another student’s shoe, angering the owner. In fury, the student who owned the shoe went around the playground with one of his friends to interview others about what the classmates didn’t like about the student who threw the shoe. Soon after, the target learned of the incident from his PE teacher.
Harvey Fierstein once said, “Never be bullied into silence. Never allow yourself to be made a victim. Accept no one's definition of your life; define yourself.” In the book, Whale Talk by Chris Crutcher, a boy named Rich Marshall could be considered a villain because of the actions and language that he uses. Chris Coughlin’s half-brother, Brian lost his life after a rock-climbing accident that went wrong in the spring of his senior year.
Whale Talk Bullying, harassment, and racism is a very common scenario among our new generation, that happens far too much. In fact over eighty percent of people have experienced some type of bullying whether it was physical, verbal, or even cyber bullying. Chris Crutcher saw the realism of our society and the outlook on bullying and wrote the book Whale Talk to emphasize the impact of bullying, racism and violence, and how serious the matter can be. Furthermore how it can affect a person and their everyday lives.
There are many mini stories throughout this work. The author tells an extremely brief tale about Illinois Avenue. Considering that the first signs of bullying appear among schoolchildren, we should examine it in its infancy, that is, bullying in early years and school life, which in turn becomes with the passage of years violence and in some cases even crime. As far as bullying at school is concerned, “one definition is that a student is being bullied or victimized, when he or she is exposed, repeatedly and over time , to negative actions on the part of one or more other students.”

Bullying in Schools What seems fun and harmless for some students, is painful and degrading to others. Bullying has been a critical issue around schools, but before it was not as dangerous and know as it is now. These do not means bullying was not happening, it means it was not taken into consideration by parents or teachers. They thought it was just peer pressure or a kids game, and sooner or later the kids would be friends again. At one point, bullies think it’s normal to be mean and abusive to other students.
