It can be concluded that equality 's main motivation in Anthem is self-improvement because when you read Anthem he is always striving for something better an example is when he says my happiness needs no higher aim to vindicate it. My happiness is not the means to any end it is its own goal it is on purpose.(95). In this equality is saying that his happiness does not need any other reason to be there other than to make him happy. Equality now realize is that he does things to make him happy and to improve himself as a human his happiness is no longer determined by making his brothers happy but it is determined by making himself happy and his goals now it 's just Improvement which ultimately makes him happy. Another quote from Anthem is know
An egoist is the complete opposite of an altruist. An egoist is a self-centered or selfish person. At the end of the novella, Equality was brasher and started using the word “I” in his monologues about how everything was going to change because of the amazing thing that he discovered and did all by himself. That was wrong of Equality to do because his friends helped him along the way in his journey and did not quit on him even though they could have been killed. His friends really helped and Equality was not as sincere and grateful for them as they were for him.
In Omelas the eyes symbolism is provoked through judgement. The people of omelas are supposed to live without anything morally wrong yet they are constantly judging people. Unlike the first two, the eyes symbolism in Anthem is very subtle so it 's hard to tell if it was intentional or not. Nonetheless the symbolism still has a very profound impact. Liberty, along with many other of Equality 's friends talk about the flame in his eyes(Rand-82).
I think the focal point of the speech was him looking at his own morality. He was empathizing in his speech was that even though a great many people looked up to him and admire him he was not be idolized because he is just a man and like all men there will be a day when he will die and that it would take each and every one to continue to fight after he is gone. I with think he was giving hope to people hope that through his vision he saw that their goal would be achieved in the fight for equality and that they shouldn’t be discouraged with the challenges that they were currently facing because through their continues fight this will be
Even though he truly wanted to live, he valued his dignity more than anything else. This is the reason he felt so disappointed. Proctor could not falsely commit to using witchcraft, because the opinion of others was more important. His disappointment is displayed when he said , “I do think I see some shred of goodness in John Proctor.” (4, 144), which shows how Proctor wanted to live so badly. It displays how Proctor felt that he did everything in order to protect his good name, and still had to die protecting it.
But eventually it will subside and something else will take its place… At the end of pain is success.” Most people don’t achieve success because they don’t rise over their challenges. That challenge may be a traumatic event, geographical surroundings, or a physical disability. But it is up to each individual to rise above their pain and achieve greatness. Everyone faces their own challenges in life. The same thing can happen to two different people, one will use it as an excuse saying “I cant… because…” while the other will say “I will… because…” The common denominator between all success stories is that they didn’t quit in the face of adversity and uncertainty.
A is a representation of the reality in which he presents that we can’t get everything what we want even though we hardly want it. He is the lesson for all those still believing that there is still a chance. He is the signification that it is better to accept the truth of fate rather than waiting for nothing. As A continued his doing in which it is his essence, Rhiannon also did a great job in which she just buried the memories between her and A in her heart. Rhiannon is a representation of loyalty because though she will meet new men in her life but she did buried their memories together with A in her heart where no one can ever replace it.
However; it did quite the opposite, instead it brought more conflict and uneasiness to the people. While many disagree with Machiavelli’s points about what makes a good leader, I find them favorable. While leaders during this time were expected to please everyone, Machiavelli makes the point that it is not possible to do so. One argument he makes is “A man who wishes to make a profession of goodness in everything must necessarily
Not only did Maslow wanted a person to be aware of what is happening in their surroundings, but he also wanted him or her to appreciate and search for the true beauty, form, and balance of life. This sixth stage is called the Aesthetic needs. This stage was added in Maslow’s hierarchy of needs because Maslow wanted to show what the world has to offer and how can we preserve all of those good things. Now that the world is full of challenges and hardships, most people focuses on the negative things instead of appreciating the positive things. That is why Maslow added this two stages to make every person become more concern of things around him or her and learn to appreciate it
Imagine being free of the mental chain known as a conscience. Unpleasant feelings such as guilt or regret would no longer be felt, theoretically sounding preferable. In actuality though, a conscience is what makes us truly human, and without it we would not have any compassion or empathy for others. This is why people without a conscience, also recognized by the name of psychopaths, are such a threat to society; they care exclusively for themselves and will not hesitate to harm someone, especially if the result is them achieving a certain goal they sought out to accomplish. It is a proven fact that, much like how all squares are rectangles but not all rectangles are squares, all serial killers are psychopaths but not all psychopaths are serial
They (including George and Hazel) had an instinct that it was wrong, but no one was willing to break out of it. However, Harrison did it. Even though the result was not successful, at least he tried. I personally think that putting into action is more important than just thinking of it. Therefore, his effort is worthy of being a hero.
Choice is very important because without choice you could never have likings or perspectives, you would be forced into sameness and controlled. Diversity is needed in the Giver community because the way we look, the way we talk, and the way we do things make us a special individual. Feelings are also needed in the Giver community because if we had no feelings we would not care or love for anyone and we could not feel empathy for each other. These three things, feelings, choice, and diversity would make the Giver community a more positive
