Health professionals play a dominant and integral role in developing access and quality health care for the populace. Based on the primary health care approach, they implement crucial services that promote health, prevent diseases and deliver health care services. There are many fields that are within the profession, for example medicine, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy and allied healthcare professions. All of the trained professionals and paraprofessionals from these fields come together, forming a multidisciplinary team which includes physicians, dentists, pharmacists, nurses, psychologists, chiropractors, clinical officers, social workers, optometrists, emergency medical technicians, paramedics, medical laboratory scientists, radiographers …show more content…

(Arena et al 2012) It was concluded that morbidity and mortality were reduced through the well documented cardiac rehabilitation and secondary preventive services. Focusing resources toward lifestyle changes and the spectrum of other secondary prevention therapies through multidisciplinary outpatient cardiac rehabilitation has been shown to improve risk factor management and to reduce costs.
According to a research on role of healthcare professionals in implementing clinical prevention and population health, (Zenzano et al 2010) every healthcare professionals have an exclusive contribution to make to the practice of clinical prevention and population health. Each profession is complementary to each other to be able to utilize a patient-centred medical home model. This can be observed through the activities that have been conducted by certain NGOs in building a reorienting health services. For example, Malaysia Diabetes Association has been conducting monthly counselling sessions regarding on the topic of diabetes which are free to the public. Through this event, a team healthcare professionals comprises of doctor, dietician and nurse will discuss a selected topic to increase public awareness on diabetes and its prevention (Diabetes Malaysia 2009). In another example, The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS), a non-profit organisation has conducted numerous humanitarian act and services to help Malaysians through disasters such as the riots of 1969, the Northern Region floods in 2010, the 2004 Tsunami that hit Acheh and subsequently Penang and more recently the insurgence in Lahad Datu.
