Management of Carious Supernumerary Tooth in Primary Dentition –A Rare Case Abstract Introduction: Supernumerary tooth in the deciduous dentition is very rare and they are defined as any teeth or tooth substances in surplus of the usual configuration of 20 primary and 32 permanent teeth. Case report: This article high lights the presence and conservative management of carious mesiodens in the very young apprehensive child. Discussion and conclusion: Supernumerary teeth are rarely seen in the primary dentition and the reported incidence was 0.3-0.6 % of the population. The etiology of the hyperdontia is still not completely understood. In fact, various exogenous factors can interfere with odontogenesis. Scheiner MA have reported that supernumerary can result from a multifaceted interaction of genetic aspects and developmental processes [8].One remarkable theory, supported in the literature, advocate that the local and independent hyperactivity of dental lamina results in an disproportionate proliferation of cells, which give rise to the formation of extra tooth buds [9]. If these were not interfering with formation and eruption of the adjacent teeth, regular follow up of child is required. The extraction of these abnormal teeth is suggested if they cause any problems like pathological changes, crowding, and esthetics and in maintaining oral hygiene.
