Researchers including Mahboob, 2002, 2009; Mansoor, 2005; Rahman, 1996, 2004; Rassool & Mansoor, 2007 etc.. researched and reported that for socio-economic mobility public considers English as a potential instrument, and considers it as a passport to potential social powers and privileges. Generally, many experts and researchers believe that when children begin with early-English-medium school, it will result in better and quicker learning of the language as well as course contents, as Noam Chomsky also suggested that the brain cells for learning language at early stages are empty and helps learner to learn language more quickly as compared with elders, because their brain cells for learning language are filled up by the first language. As for example Joseph Conrad a great Polish writer who wrote a lot many best English writings including ‘Heart of Darkness’ could only write such great writings but when researched it was found that he could not speak English language; thus, researchers found that a children who study in English-medium environment by the time when children matriculate, they will have gained more exposure to the English language as well as command and proficiency in the English
Hunger of Memory: The Education of Richard Rodríguez is a memoir that explores Richard Rodríguez’s coming-of-age in an America that challenges him to understand what it is to be a Mexican American and what it is to be a Catholic in America. At the heart of this autobiography is Rodríguez’s recognition that his is a position of alienation, a position that he accepts with resignation and regret. As the title of this collection of autobiographical pieces suggests, he remembers his early childhood with nostalgia, while acknowledging that his coming-of-age has resulted in his displacement from that simple, secure life. The most critical aspect of his education and his development of an adult self is language.
The study portends that students are actually disadvantaged by attending a private school compared to a public school. The authors suggest that this may be due to public school’s innovation compared to private school’s antiquated teaching methods. After I watched the episode of “Think Tank” that discussed the aftermath of Proposition 227 in California, I realized how contentious the debate about bilingual education has been in the past and how it still continues to be today. The video hosted Dr. Krashen, an advocate of second-language acquisition and bilingual education, and Mr. Unz, an advocate of English-Only Education, in a debate about the effectiveness of bilingual education and Proposition 227. On one side of the debate is Mr. Unz, the author of Proposition 227. He claims that the English-Only method is more effective than the Bilingual Education approach for teaching Limited English Proficient (LEP) students.
Before I come to Middlesex, I lived in Jordan after I left my original country Iraq in 2010, I finished my high school diploma in Jordan but when we moved out to U.S, I attended Lowell high school in 2013 of course I went to it because of my little English. The language was one of the difficult barriers I had to face, I graduated in 2015, and I have been here in the U.S for two years. When I came here I spoke very little English, I could understand about 60% when I have conversation, when I talk with my friend in the school. In Jordan I had taken philosophy course, one of my favorite subjects, and we learn that the language is the tool or the facility that we use to express our smartness in order to express ourselves as human being totally
My mom and dad were at a friend 's party, the subject of where does your children go to school came up. This is a subject we dread and avoid whenever possible. We cannot discuss private school without mentioning costs and income. "Where we choose to send our kids to school is a loaded topic that can come to symbolize a parent 's values, income and worldview. But the public versus private school debate doesn 't even enter the equation for a majority of Americans who can 't afford private school tuition.
Over the past few decades, there has been many distinct perspectives and conflicts surrounding the historical context between the Indigenous peoples in Canada and the Canadian Government. In source one, the author P.J Anderson is trying to convey that the absolute goal of the Indian Residential School system in Canada has been to assimilate the Indian nation and provide them with guidance to “ forget their Indian habits”, and become educated of the “ arts of civilized life”, in order to help them integrate into society and “become one” with their “White brethren”. It is clearly evident throughout the source that the author is supportive of the Indian residential school system and strongly believes that the Indian residential School System
A lot of people think that indian boarding schools were a good way of educating children, but I think that indian boarding schools shouldn’t have treated the kids like they did. These people are wrong because They had very little learning and they had very unreasonable punishments and they were very inhumane.. Also, they didn’t let kids do native traditions or speak their language. Indian Boarding Schools shouldn’t have treated the indians like they did because they were inhumane. For example, Priests and Nuns would sexually molest and rape the kids, and even got some girls pregnet.
Aboriginals have been on Canadian soil since the break of dawn, yet they were mistreated the most. They have gone through centuries of torture and injustice but still face and continue to face racial problems and discrimination in contemporary society due to their past. Aboriginals have gone through horrible experiences such as residential schools, faulty treaties and racism in society. Making up for past maltreatment towards Aboriginals and mending the years of damage by paying reparations and providing services is something that the contemporary Canadian society is responsible for. Indian Residential Schools are an unforgivable and tragic event in Canadian history that is often not talked about, although it needs to be.
Abstract: Language is the medium by which one’s psychological experiences, emotions and imaginations can be recreated in the minds of the reader or listener. Through ages language has been the vehicle with which humans have communicated ideas to each other. Language has not only the power to heal and to comfort but also to retrieve the suppressed experiences of an individual from the past. This paper seeks to discuss Toni Morrison’s novel A Mercy as a text that explores the common language uncommonly well in using it as a double edged sword.
I read the book The Indian School by Gloria Whelan and the genre is Biography. In my book there is 96 pages. Despite the contrasting environment, private school students are no different than public school students. In an online manifesto, If You Send Your Kid to Private school you are bad, Allison Benedikt, an executive editor states, “But many others go private for religious reasons, or because their kids have behavioral or learning issues, or simply because the public school in their district is not so hot”. This proves that private schools are not filled with angels, but rather kids who have behavioral issues and need that extra help. In senior writer and editor John S Kiernan’s, online article, Private Schools vs. Public Schools - Experts Weigh In, Patrick J. Wolf, Ph.D, proclaims, “Private schools also are becoming more diverse, as their enrollments increasingly include minority and low-income students”. Similar to a public school, private schooling have their low, medium and upper class students.
As I have heard from a friend here in America, US public schools are no less than quality but excel in private

“You can’t see other people’s point of view when you have only one language,” declared psycholinguist, Frank Smith. Just as it is mentioned in this quote, foreign language is important; therefore, people should learn a foreign language at an early age. When learning a foreign language at an early age, it helps people to concentrate and increase comprehension skills. Also, at a young age, the mind is fresh, so the person can take in more information and can easily master a foreign language. In addition, most secondary schools, universities, and jobs require a foreign language to be known.
In a survey conducted by The Straits Times and research firm Nexus Link in 2015, seven in 10 families in Singapore pack their pre-school children off to tuition. The most common reason for private tuition - cited by more than half of the parents with children under seven - was to keep up with others. It is my opinion that the increasing prevalence of private tuition nowadays is superfluous. Our education system is top-notch. This year, Singapore topped the biggest global school rankings published by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
