College athletes put in a lot of time, effort, and work into the sport they’ve played since they were young, but they aren’t getting paid for it. These student athletes deserve to be paid because they put in countless hours of hard work and balance sports with school work. The first reason athletes in college do deserve to be compensated is because they don 't have time to fit in work with a school and athletic schedule.
When people hear about if college athletes should get paid they would say no because they think the athletes would get paid millions of dollars. It is not like that, college athletes would not be paid that high they would only need to be paid so they can live a decent life. They have to balance their lives with school and their sports. College athletes should get paid because The NCCA is billion dollar business and the athletes don’t get any money, athletes spend more hours working for the sport than the average American, it helps athletes manage their money.
The million dollar question; should college athletes be paid? This is an immense debate, but if you were to ask me, I would say yes, college athletes should be paid. There are a plethora of reasons why college athletes should get paid. College athletes should get paid because of the amount of time they put into their sport, the amount of money everyone else is making off of them, and their overall importance to the school. There are a myriad of reasons that people can argue the opposite way, but, the reasons they should get paid definitely outweigh the reasons they shouldn’t get paid. Although college athletes may be on a scholarship that is paying for their education, they also work countless hours on their craft and make millions for their
Major college football and basketball programs bring in millions of dollars a year for their university and the NCAA. Many people claim the players are the reason these programs make so much money and should be compensated for their work. At first this seems to be logical, but there are many flaws with paying athletes. However, athletes should be able to pursue business opportunities. College athletes should not be paid for playing sports, but should be able to have an outside income.
Wouldn’t it be nice to earn millions of dollars to play a sport for fun? Being a professional athlete is something almost everybody has dreamed about and only a modest percentage have achieved. Sports are part of everyday life for most people in the country and millions of people idolize the players. Professional athletes are making over and above what they deserve. this money should be given to doctors and the armed forces. People’s salaries should be based on the job’s economic importance and value to society not based on their talent and ability to play a sport.
Have you ever heard about a grown man complaining about how he could not afford his insurance for his 8 cars? Almost all athletes get paid enormous paychecks and are financially unprepared. Athletes are overpaid because they can go bankrupt and some of the athletes become too confident with their money.
Another valid argument for why they deserve to be paid is because a scholarship for the athletes doesn 't normally cover all of the tuitions. So the players are forced to pay the rest of the tuition to go there and play. Not everybody can afford to pay for college that is why they work their butt off for a scholarship. A case happened at duke university where a player got a scholarship and still had to pay 1,995 dollars for his scholarship. The study shows that the players were living just 732 dollars above the poverty line. Players can 't afford to have their parents come to the stadium to watch them play. If the athletes were paid they could pay the college the rest of the tuition and pay to have their parents come watch the game and shoe their parents all the hard work that they have been putting into the sport that
Statistically showing, at least 100,000 college football players get hurt yearly. College football player’s should get paid to play because these players put themselves at risk for injury, college football is a job, not p.e, and it will help players adjust to college socially and economically. Colleges and the NCAA can make money selling jerseys and other souvenirs that might include the likeness of players, yet the actual players never receive a cent.
Sports writer Joe Posnanski’s article “College Athletes Should Not Be Paid” argument over Dallas Morning News Editorial’s article, “paying them is fair, but it doesn't address college athletes' real need: an education” is more convincing to believe that college athletes should not be paid while receiving the benefits of a free education. DMN states that college athletes should be paid, because NCAA generate millions of income because of these players through private contracts. However, Posnanski’s claim that big time players already are paid through free college tuition, as well as covered room and board (Posnanski, 585). Even though DMN claims that college athletes go through difficult education process and may not be able to have chance to play professionally, he then correlated his source of information to the website of the NCAA, however, there is concern if this institution inflated the facts on the website (DMN). In contrast, Posnanski says argument of “College players are the reason why these schools generating so much money and they deserve a much bigger piece of the pie” is not really right. He defends his position against the argument by stating that; ask yourself if every single player in the team quit the next day and re-formed as a professional team, who will go to their game? (Posnanski, 587). Due to the fact that college athletics is for player, these teams created by colleges and players chose to go these schools and join the team.
Benedykiuck, Mike. “The Blue Line: College athletes should be paid.” Dailyfreepress. The Daily Free Press. April. 2015. Web. 18 March 2016.
Most people think that athletes are overpaid and see huge contracts come out every year. It’s not everyday that an athlete wakes up to a 20 million dollar contract. In fact, they actually worked for it over many years of training and dedication.
A growing debate in the National Collegiate Athletic Association is whether or not student athletes should be paid. The controversy began in 2011 after three hundred coaches and athletes signed a petition to pay college-level athletes, and since then other athletes have made several more arguments. The NCAA has rightfully denied all of the requests, saying they include too much. To pay student athletes could be hugely expensive for colleges, especially because they would not only pay for each athlete’s degree and equipment, but also provide a salary and give bonuses revenue for tournaments. Moreover, college athletes should not be paid because there is not enough money, it takes away a student’s focus from schoolwork, and not every athlete is guaranteed a professional career after graduating; however it is argued that it they are already paid in a way.
The topic, pro athletes are/are not getting paid too much, is a heated argument between people. Have you ever thought about it? Well, an answer that I’m sure would be agreed with is that national athletes are paid way too much money. Some people might say that they deserve what they get, but there really isn’t any supportive reasons for that. People know that doctors and firefighters save lives, while athletes play a game to make money. Even teachers pay isn’t anywhere near to athletes; they educate the generation’s youth so they can make a difference in the future. So many jobs that are very important don’t get paid as much and that money can go towards better causes. But these are only some of the reasons that pro athletes get paid too much.
I don’t know why athletes get paid millions of dollars if they are only entertaining us for a living. Tom Brady made $36 million in one year and Lebron James made $71 million last year. The professional players work, practice extremely hard, but are they worth that much. According, some people think that these athletes are not overpaid. Some Americans will work a full-time job until they are protracted at 70 years old, and they don’t make as much money as Tom Brady makes in a year. People like nurses help them get back into the game when they are injured, but they don’t get paid the athletics do.
Pro athletes all over our nation are paid millions of dollars just to play a simple sport, while there are other people are risking their lives constantly for the public, working for several hours a day to satisfy their bosses, and even they aren 't paid as much of a salary as an athlete altogether. Although entertainment is a big, popular genre of a job placement, there are others who work equally as hard just to even earn a small paycheck to maintain their lives normally, perhaps even more. The amount of money given to athletes could also be used for something more valuable and useful than for just one player. The millions of dollars could be funding different schools or giving pay to those who rightfully earn it. Athletes are ridiculously overpaid because there are jobs with people working even harder than athletes, they are only used for entertainment value overall, and athletes only make money due to their fanbase
