INTRODUCTION
Intercultural communication is an order that studies different communication ways across different cultures or countries and also the way in which culture affect communication. Every culture has his own way of communication which makes it different from other cultures or social groups. It is an also a situation in which a person need to interact with a different culture person. Moreover, Intercultural communication is considered the base for international business. The problems in intercultural communication usually come due to message transmission. This happens when person tries to decode the words listened from the speaker and language difference make it difficult.

However, although Portuguese is the first language for the vast majority of Brazilians, numerous foreign words have expanded the national lexicon to give the national language its own unique identity. Here is some difference according to non-verbal communication. When conversing, good eye contact is important. To not do so is considered impolite. A very unique body language in Brazil is the “figa”, represented by inserting the thumb between the middle and index finger. This gesture is supposed to keep away pain, suffering and envy and it is an amulet that protects against the “evil-eye.”

When you tell others that you’re Canadian, many think of maple syrup, friendly people, and hockey. Little did they know that we are entitled to freedom, peace, and equality. Not only do we excel in many winter sports such as hockey, but we also bond over our country’s achievements in sports events. In addition to our strong government and democratic society, Canadians offer help to those in need and welcomes new immigrants to our country.
This theory was made by Michael Argyle (1925- 2002), who was a social psychologist. In the late 1960s he studied social skills, body language, non-verbal communication and interpersonal behaviour. In this study, he found that non-verbal signals can be much more important and useful than verbal communication when trying to trigger peoples’ attitudes and feelings. His research showed and found that the stronger the relationship between the people communicating so with close friends for example the much better eye contact. However, when the relationship is not very strong so when speaking to a stranger people don’t have very good eye contact and they tend to look away when talking.

Interpersonal communication is a dynamic form of communication between two (or more) people in which the messages exchanged significantly influence their thoughts, emotions, behaviors, and relationships (pg. 11 text book).
I don't agree with The Honourable David Lam in his article "Pulling Together" where he remarks that in Hong Kong, people are rude and loud, but in other parts of the world, like Canada, people don't accept that behaviour. I think that Canadian people are equally rude and loud as in Hong Kong. Just how important manners are? However in Canada, minimization of friction between people in Canada is verifiable. Compared to other countries where immigrants feel like they have to embrace the culture in order to become part of it; in Canada it’s the opposite.
As an American we believe that continuously staring at someone is rude and can come off as threatening (Changing Minds). In caribbean culture, it is common to have others stare someone without the thought of it being disrespectful. In both Haitian and Montserratian culture staring at someone shows interest in whatever they may be doing (Culture Crossing Guide). Even though each culture has their differences, some share similarities. America and Montserrat have similar social expectations when greeting someone.
The difference in language leads to miscommunication but the overlying consequence of it is lack of understanding and empathy for one another which leads to conflict. “Language takes on a metonymic relation to culture in Tan's portrayal of the gap between the mothers and daughters in The Joy Luck Club.” (Hamilton). The language barriers between the daughters and the mothers create the cultural barriers. Language barriers emphasize and directly influences cultural barriers.
Most American people conserve eye contact while communicating, and also they are expertise in showing enthusiasm and compassion. Brazil, by both land mass and population, is the fifth largest country across the globe. The country is divided into five regions becoming one of the most geographically and culturally diverse nations on the earth earning the nickname "land of contrasts. " The different areas of the country all have many different cultures within often expressed through artifacts as well as traditions and ceremonies. Nationally, the culture can be expressed through many various forms such as language, literature, art, music, and religion. The blended and diverse culture of Brazil helped amplify many celebrations around the world.
My interest in intercultural communication and determination of pursuing a career in international education motivated me to apply for the MA ICBP at Warwick University. The decision has been carefully made based on my bachelor degree in International Communications Studies with Spanish, voluntary teaching in primary schools in China and Cameroon. After graduation, I wish to work for as an administrative coordinator in an international education institution or as a program manager of NGO, promoting quality education. With 3-5 year working experience, I will head for a PhD degree to prepare myself for a research-oriented position. Introduction: When we think about culture, we automatically associate it with all of the stereotypes that are known. However, many of us never actually take the effort to find out the true culture of a place, which is why when we go to other countries we are clueless as to the culture and its practices. I believe that it is important to learn about the culture and any relevant information about a country before going there, which is why I have decided to look into the culture of the country Canada and its social practices. The country of Canada is in the continent of North America and it is well known for the friendly culture and open minded citizens.
