Collaborative Design of Product-Service System with Multi-Segment: Framework and Model Rosita Meitha Surjani*, Udisubakti Ciptomulyono, Maria Anityasari, Industrial Engineering Department, Institut Teknologi Sepuluh Nopember Abstract- Research in Product-Service System has been significantly growing in recent years. However, most studies within PSS design were conducted only for one customer-segment. There was little attention given to multi-customer segment. In fact, most of PSS providers have several customer segments. The PSS provider and each customer segment sometimes have different needs. Therefore, PSS should be designed collaboratively by incorporating not only PSS provider’s need but also multi-customer segment’s. In addition, …show more content…
I. INTRODUCTION T HE effort of companies to become competitive and sustainable has demonstrated that providing physical products alone is insufficient [1]. In recent years, consumers do not specifically demand products but rather are seeking the utility of these products and the accompanying services [2]. The basis of customer value has moved from physical product offering to product-service system (PSS). PSS is an integrated bundle of physical products and services which aims at creating customer utility and generating value [3]. PSS is considered as a useful and attractive approach in achieving sustainability, and is able to attract customers and differentiates firms from competitors. Research and applications of PSS have been significantly growing in recent years [1, 3]. However, there was little attention given to PSS design with multi-segment. PSS design is the most important step in PSS realization. PSS should be designed collaboratively by incorporating PSS actors, as well as the multi-customer …show more content…
PRODUCT-SERVICE SYSTEM DESIGN The most important stage in adopting PSS is PSS design which has become an emerging research area in PSS field [4]. Previous studies have proposed several methods for PSS design, such as product/service integration design methodology based on the axiomatic design theory and the fault tree analysis, and product-service blueprint method [2]. The previous methods has proposed design frames, PSS development processes, tools implementation and service design process. PSS design is quite different from physical product design because of several new variables, namely: time, interaction between PSS actors, social habits, and culture background. In PSS, the important aspects to improve competitiveness are collaboration among customers, developers, suppliers, and manufacturers throughout the entire product-service lifecycle are becoming much important for the most advanced competitiveness [6]. Therefore, PSS should be designed collaboratively, coordinated well considering the mutual influences of products and

Portfolio Kris Corporation has asked IT Consultants to draft a proposal to address a number of the concerns Kris Corporation has with its current network. Kris Corporation is running Server 2008, with a parent domain and a child domain. There is a concern that this current configuration is not the most efficient. Kris Corporation would like one identity to obtain orders in real time. Kris Corporation has five locations, and the manufacturing plants are in two sites.
I will be able to develop the network architecture for various clients and also install, deploy, maintain, troubleshoot product and test services according to their needs. Client requirements may be at local, wide area or an organization level. This will help me to interact with the end user and will help me know their demands. Interaction will be among the users, infrastructure vendors like Internet service providers, software vendors who together make up a communication network and integrate services in them and keep the communication system
- working with working staff to set up strategies, models and frameworks. - Setting client administration measures & assuring that the current standards satisfy the customers & helps retaining them. • Coordinating with the workers themselves can help effectively in setting appropriate models for the procedures & systems because they are the ones who interact directly with raw materials and producing the products, so they would know better if anything in manufacturing needs improvement or so. • It is important to satisfy the current customers in different possible ways in order to retain them which eventually leads in attracting more customers as well.
Business Assessment An organization must identify its core competencies and strategically align those competencies with its business objectives to achieve success. In fact, C.K. Prahalad and Gary Hamel explained in the Harvard Business Review that the most powerful way for an organization to prevail is for it to “identify, cultivate, and exploit the core competencies that make growth possible” (2000). Lockheed Martin has thoroughly aligned its competencies, business objectives, and key performance indicators, which has undoubtedly contributed to the corporation’s effectiveness.
This detailed design should be easily converted to programming logic. It is at this stage the technology specifications for implementing the solution, logical structure of the application, design of WebPages, database designs etc are finalized. Test plans and test cases for the application are devised at this stage. Implementation phase – 5 weeks This stage involves implementing the design documentation using the technologies and platforms decided .For
A company will typically do this by examining its strengths and limitations, the demands of its consumers, and the total value it can deliver (Indeed Editorial Team, 2022). APS should separate itself from its competitors by stressing its dedication to customer service and community participation to support its cost reduction strategy. This can require using a variety of strategies, such as the following
1. What is required for global product roll-out, including who expends which capital , takes which risk and reaps which reward ? Benecol could be claimed as an important nutritional innovation in the world. It is a unique compound composed of plant stanol esters, which have scientifically proven to help lower cholesterol in humans.
Specify organisational standards of customer service So the customer segment of the Ritz-Carlton is a wealthy clientele who has very high expectations since they use to get upscale products because they are ready to pay more to have more. Therefore, the differentiation of the Ritz-Carlton is made on an efficient and effective customer service. As we know the needs are general but the wants are specific, so the companies have to make the difference so as to become the customer’s wants. For example, customers will need to book an hotel room but some customers will want to book an Ritz-Carlton hotel room.
Resource base view can be considered as an economic tool that is used to determine the strategic resources that are available to a firm. These can be created as a competitive advantage later. When considering about the Zara’s product development strategy, one resource base decision is their designing function. The company has organized their designing function in a way that it will contribute a lot to come up with new trends for the organizations. One is that they are highly in alert of the fashion market, trade fairs, magazines etc.
This can be done by product managers with new product development experience or by cross functional team with members chosen from various departments having the knack of developing new products. Nowadays, companies are following stage process for product
The value chain analysis indicates the firms that strive to create superior products or services through focused differentiation strategy. To ensure the activities are tailor to the strategy Value Chain is used. How each activity generates value and linked to the strategy in UFS? Table 4: Value Chain Analysis Primary Activities
Process Drive to achieve functional excellence and integration across all major processes. - Core supply chain processes driving the business. - Best in class approaches to our core processes (manufacturing, integrated demand planning, procurement, cycle-time, compression, dynamic deployment) - Bulk linkages with suppliers and customers. C. Organization Providing the critical success factors of cohesion, harmony and integration across organization entities - Level of cross functional integration is required to manage core processes effectively - Leverage cross-company skills and abilities - Performance measurement and reporting structure help to achieve objectives D. Technology Empowers the Supply Chain to operate on a new level of performance and is creating clear competitive advantages for those companies able to harness it.
Growing customer expectations result in shorter life cycle of products and this means that companies should make their processes more and more flexible adopting modularity and product platforms in order to overcome competitors. Companies who fail to meet dynamic customer needs are doomed to fail. To illustrate this we can consider Tata Motors that designed a car selling at $2500 having identified the need for cheap vehicles and introduced market-pull innovation. Though having some negative feedbacks on its security it is affordable for many families in India.
Product design can fulfil the demands of the customers and they are willing visit the same company again in the future. Referencing to the words of Vonderembse (n.d.),
