Did you know that 80 percent of NFL players will go broke or file for bankruptcy within their first 2 years of retiring. Often players will forget that they have personal lives and futures to think about. The only thing is though that NFL players live in the moment and not the future. The NFL players are part to blame for the reasoning of going broke but at the same time so is the NFL they know that most of the athletes come from poor backgrounds and neighbourhoods. It's hard when the player makes it to the pros and for them not to help out their friends and family.
For years, the use of performance-enhancing drugs has haunted all levels of sport, baseball taking the majority of the publicity. Many have lost sight of the fact that baseball players are not the only athletes that face this life threatening addiction. Due to the amount of padding they have to wear, football players can easily disguise their size therefore keeping them from receiving scrutiny from the public. This has allowed more and more players to look to PEDs in order to gain an edge over their opponents. The issue spans to not only the professional level, but the high school and collegiate divisions as well. Because the National Football League sits on a higher platform, they bring in an exceptional amount of money compared to that
A MLB player was suspended a whole year, and put into jail for 2 months because he was using illegal drugs banned in the US. A NFL superstar was suspended for a week after doing a live video on Instagram showing his own players in the locker room after the game. He was suspended by his team for showing videos of his own players changing after a game. It was inappropriate video of his teammates, and it was not right.
August of 2011 Mathieu failed a drug test and was kicked off of the LSU football team with hopes of coming back. 2 months later the 2011 Heisman Trophy finalist and three other former Tigers players. One of them, former quarterback for LSU Jordan Jefferson, were arrested on drug-related charges that ended Mathieus chances of returning. According to the police report (2011) officers found the marijuana in Mathieu 's apartment Thursday afternoon. Mathieu answered the door, and officers "immediately smelled a strong odor of marijuana," the police report stated.
In addition to media coverage, I believe that fans and media should encourage NFL to create a better mental health program to help ex-NFL players and NFL should accept the proposition. While immediate effects of concussion such as nausea, headache, and vomiting, the players must worry more about long-term mental health issues including depression, Alzheimer’s disease, and other traumatic brain injuries. While many current and former players acknowledge the fact about long-term effects of concussion, not many players have enough money or connections to analyze their brains to check and recover from those mental issues. If NFL and other sports organizations create a great mental health program for current and ex-players suffering from concussion, the idea of concealment and distrust of those organizations will disappear by good deeds and create a philanthropic company figure for the
This is extremely unfair to players that work unquestionably hard to be a professional athlete while some athletes are cheating through the use of steroids. It also destroys the integrity of the sport because awards, records, and championships seem to be fallacious. In order to better understand all aspects of steroid use throughout professional level sports, the counter side must be addressed. In many sports leagues we can see that steroid policies are being taken control of because so many professional athletes are being penalized for taking PEDs.
Persuasive Argument National Athletes are/are not Paid Too Much The topic, pro athletes are/are not getting paid too much, is a heated argument between people. Have you ever thought about it? Well, an answer that I’m sure would be agreed with is that national athletes are paid way too much money. Some people might say that they deserve what they get, but there really isn’t any supportive reasons for that.
The pro athletes get paid for their hard work why don't college athletes?College do as much hard work as the pros but they still do not get paid. They both compete for championships and practice almost everyday.College athletes have to wait to go to the pros to get money when they should get it now.College athletes work on their sport everyday like a job so you should get money in exchange for your work and labor.
While some believe that athletes should have their own choice at making a decision to go pro straight out of high school, they should not do so because they will not be able to manage their million dollar contracts respectively. Speaking of contracts, the NBA should eliminate guaranteed contracts for rookies drafted in the first round of the NBA draft. They should do this because a careless high school kid, could just go into the draft not knowing, or caring on how much they are going to make, with the lack of experience on handling millions of dollars. This is very unrepsonsibible for a teenager, and not only for the high school athlete, but also for the basketball association as well. This is because of there noncommitment to have these players
College athletes should receive compensation for their efforts because of the serious risks involved, the time the athletes put into it, and if the college is making money off these students they should financially benefit from it.
I agree with the statement that Joe Nocera made because the Miami University scandal was a booster at the university giving athletes money so they could buy stuff during college, it probably would not have completely avoided the subject because the players thought they deserved expensive things because they were bringing in lots of money for the university for their success. Finally, players should get paid for the money they make for their school and the NCAA, but there is also some reasons why they shouldn’t get
Performance Enhancing Drugs Should Be Allowed in Professional Sports Performance enhancement drugs used by professional athletes who strive, or want to separate themselves from mediocrity and desire super stardom these athletes should not be penalized. Furthermore, athletes who are willing to take the journey down the path of using foreign substance on their bodies they should be allowed. Therefore professional athletes, functioning on their own recognizance, they have the monetary means, and it’s their body which is their own property. Consequently no athlete, or professional organization sets out to finish second or doesn’t attempt to win the highest honors in their respective sport. The athlete hands should not be tied because others haven’t
In today’s society, we have former National Football League(NFL) quarterback Collin Kapernick who’s no longer in the NFL because of his protest against racial inequality. However, many people believe he is no longer in the NFL because of his talent. Kapernick led the 49ers to Super Bowl 47. Although they didn’t win, he threw for 302 yards with a touchdown and rushed for 62 yards. Therefore, he didn’t get kicked out of the league because he wasn’t good enough, but for sitting down during the national anthem.
Ethical issues in sports Sports in today’s world have gained a lot of importance and there have been a lot of additions to sports in the form of new rules, policies the way it is meant to be played etc. Though many stringent laws are framed, implemented and monitored there are always some sort of issues in the way the sports activities are carried out. Regardless of the level of participation some of the players resort to unethical ways of winning the event. The attitude towards the sportsmanship has changed significantly over the years.
