Abstract
Professional nursing organizations have emerged throughout history because of the need to establish guidelines and limits to help us ensure sufficiently safe practice for nurses and patients in the nursing profession. “Professional nursing organizations enhance nurses professional growth and help all nurses collectively as they influence policies affecting nursing, nursing practice, and the health of society. Professional organizations may be local, state, regional or international” (Blais, & Hayes, 2016, p.51) Many organizations have been formed and probably new ones are likely to be created but the American Nurses Association is without a doubt one of the most important in our country. Nursing is a job where the priority is the

“From the halls of Congress and federal agencies to the board rooms, hospitals and other health care facilities, ANA is the strongest voice for the nursing profession” (American Nurses Association,2016). “ANA advances the nursing profession by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting a safe and ethical work environment, bolstering the health and wellness of nurses, and advocating on health care issues that affect nurses and the public” (American Nurses Association, 2016). Nurses joined this types of organization with the purpose make their voices to be heard and to improve the quality of nursing care and health care in general. “Dedicated to ensuring that an adequate supply of highly-skilled and well-educated nurses is available, ANA is committed to meeting the needs of nurses as well as health care consumers” (American Nurses Association, …show more content…

Professional nursing associations are rarely marketed to staff members, which can lead to decreased membership in the long run. • Elevated Costs- “A major challenge faced by associations today is increasing their membership when current and potential members are careful in how they spend their money and time” (Huston, 2017, p. 390). • Nursing Shortage- With there being a nursing shortage in the medical field today that means there are not as many people even available to join.
For example, currently, there is a global organization named National Network of Career Nursing Assistants that is a non-profit group that provides support, research, and education for career nurse assistants. This clearly exemplifies the progress nursing aides have made in hospitals and nursing homes around the
The overall goal of an ACO, which may include physicians, hospitals, and other healthcare professionals, is to provide quality care while meeting defined outcomes and indicators. Overall, the implementation of the ACO should allow for decreased healthcare expenditures. The concept of the ACO is not without barrier to implementation; it affects all healthcare providers and requires extensive interdisciplinary work and increased communication. Nursing practice is influenced by an ACO; staff nurses will be influenced and advanced nurses will be affected. Overall, additional responsibility will be placed on the role of the
Nursing Organization: This exercise I found interesting and educational. Enjoyed reading the many organizations out there and that they are for nurses to have instant access to education, leadership and advocacy programs, publications about what you want to know, and your interest, along with access to scholarships and grants. With this day of social media they are also an online community that is there when you need them. I think its great that as nurses we can come together and help each other out, we are a community that can get things done, and make changes not only within our practice but also within our
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) play an essential role in the healthcare facilities where they ensure that there is the delivery of quality services to the patients. The implementation of the policy of protecting these nurses will have a positive impact on their various operations and how they provide services to the patients. The American Nurses Association has put more weight on protecting the APRNs and ensuring that there is fairness and consistency in their functions across different states in the country (Schwab, Gelfman & Tirozzi, 2005). When they have the right working environment, the APRNs have a chance to save lives and ensure that patients recover with ease by providing them with the right services. On the other hand,
I have chosen Chapter 69 of Unit 5, “Taking Action: An Insider’s View of Lobbying”. I chose this chapter in order to learn more about lobbying and lobbyist in general as well as how it relates to nursing. Merriam-Webster’s dictionary defines lobby as “an organized group of people who work together to influence government decisions that relate to a particular industry, issue, etc.” (Lobby, n.d.). The highly controversial phenomenon known as lobbying is associated with many negative connotations related to government.
Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRN) play a vital role in the future of health care irrespective of their specialty .APRNs are often primary care providers and are at the forefront of providing preventative care to the public (Nursing World, n.d.). Advanced practice nursing roles are developing globally, and opportunities for advanced practice nursing are expanding worldwide due to the need for expert nursing care at an advanced level of practice. . The role of the Nurse Practitioner (NP) is shaping the health care and the professional practice environment. Since the emerging of Affordable care Act the vale and the contributions of APRN to improve access to health care services has increased.
Nurses can offer their experience along with knowledge to make an impact on issues in health care. The lawmaking process is often complex and requires so much work and effort from many individuals. Vital information from lobbyist and advocates help shape legislations and forever change health care policies. When nurses unite as a group, they pose as a dynamic power so lobbying is a great way to have our voices heard. If we as nurses were to partake in policies that we feel passionate about, then we have power to change health care for the
Professional organizations uphold its members and try to improve nursing practice. Professional organizations can serve as a voice in government. There is power in numbers. A community is a group of people who either share a common interest such as church, school, or a geographic location such as a neighborhood, town or city (Mason, Gardner, & O'Grady, 2016). By participating in community outreach programs, nurses use their knowledge, skills, and experience to improve the community's health.
Our nation has displayed its greatness in thousands of different ways. It has overcome many obstacles and solved many problems, but it seems to have gotten caught up on a select few over the past hundreds of years. One hardship that the U.S. is having difficulty solving is the nursing shortage. Although many, including myself, have seen this as a crisis that the nation faces, others seem to see a silver lining in the fog. Because of this, I believe that my thesis, the nursing shortage is a major concern that needs to be acted on soon, is a great thesis for the final research paper.
I currently work at Overland Park Regional Medical Center on the telemetry unit. The main professional nursing associations that I am aware of on our floor is the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the Kansas State Nurses Association (KSNA). The reason these specific nursing associations are influential at my place of work is because they help the nurses collaborate with one another all over the country and they are such large well known organizations . Matthews (2012) states that the ANA for example, advances nursing by fostering high standards of nursing practice, promoting the rights of nurses in the workplace, and by projecting a positive and realistic view of nursing. The only professional nursing association I am a member of is
Registered nurses are required to deliver wide-range nursing attention and treatment to all persons in a healthcare setup (American Nurses ' Association, 2000). Notably, they have to offer emergency care and guarantee the safe execution of treatment. It is mandatory for nurses to demonstrate a broad knowledge of the laws and regulations that are in line with their profession. Additionally,
Shared governance is extremely important when it comes to the profession on nursing. What is shared governance and how does it relate to nurses? “Shared governance is a dynamic process for achieving organizational effectiveness by promoting decision making and accountability for practice through empowerment” (Bednarski, 2009, para. 1). When organizations allow nurses to participate in shared governance, it gives the nurses professional autonomy (Bednarski, 2009). “It empowers nurses to contribute collaboratively to the decision-making process related to nursing practice, practice standards, and procedures” (Bednarski, 2009, para. 1).
Introduction The contact person for my research on the organization was Maggie La Born, head of CNA department. That department is dealing with many students from different cultures. According to the regulations, all students who aspire to study nursing must go through this section to work in a preliminary study to teach the basics
Recruitment of Professional Nurses: The Evidence-Based Magnet Recognition Program® Magnet hospitals define hospitals that recruit and retain nurses by providing a positive working environment, as well as their excellence in providing high-quality nursing care (Schmalenberg& Kramer, 2008). They are international models for nursing standards. Other hospitals look to magnet organizations for ways to improve their patients’ results, reduce hospital stays, in addition to attracting and keeping the most qualified nursing staff (Yıldırım, Kısa & Hisar, 2012). In the early 1980s, the American Academy of Nursing (AAN) appointed a task force in hospital nursing practice out of concern for the numerous workforce issues that the profession was currently
