Progressive Innovation – Take Your Time
“Disruptive Technology”, “Game changing plans”, “Corporate restructuring” , “Y- generation Employees”, “Young Blood”, “Out of the box Thinking” and “What is trending?” are only some of the phrases that we associate with the term “Innovation”. Most people and organizations the same assume that in order for an innovative approach to be introduced, an external factor such as the factors mentioned need to be present or acquired. In order for an organization to bring in an innovative idea that will benefit the organization, the organizational culture needs to be molded such that existing employees, departments and department heads are encouraged and comfortable to express their ideas and opinions.

As children grow up, they are given the opportunity to draw and write. They are not always judged on what they do, but gives an insight to what they are capable of doing. Likewise, innovation should be looked at from this angel and give organizations that edge they are so desperately trying to achieve.
Start ups are a good example of progressive innovation. Startups organizations are results of;
• Conversations between friends
• A simple identification of a gap in the market by an individual who was trying to achieve a goal
• A realization that something could be done in a more effective way than it is already being done in, etc.
They don’t necessarily initiate with a business plan or a 10 year strategy. Start-ups are merely testing out an idea, giving it their best shot and seeing where it can take them. Innovation needs to be worked on and can be done progressively. Experts are not always needed by organizations. The existing employees should be considered as the experts, as they are the ones who engage in business activities on a daily basis and have an idea on how things can be improved and what things need to change. External experts will look to change the entire business process, where as an internal resource will show why it is not the entire process that needs to be changed, but merely a part of it.
Organizations should facilitate a culture which will enable internal resources to speak up, share their ideas and be a part of the entire innovation process. If a plan for an innovative approach is made to meet a certain goal, the organization collectively should part take in all aspects of it for it to be a success. It may seem to take a longer time to get all on board, but it can be far beneficial to have all on board than a few lagging behind.

In the 1800s, calls for change erupted from the public after numerous events broadcasted what mismanagement of natural resources can lead to. In 1871, the Peshtigo Fire in Wisconsin sent a message to the public that change was necessary, which was further reinforced through the after effects of smoke filled skies of industrial areas and degraded lands once beautiful now overgrazed to their roots. The cries of the public rendered new initiatives calling for better management of natural resources, as well as valuing these resources at more appropriate levels. These changes lead to the birth of conservation and preservation, and through this the means for advocates like George Catlin, John Muir, George Marsh and Theodore Roosevelt are provided for gaining public support for new management.
During the Progressive Era, there were many issues surrounding labor, the food industry,and trusts. The Labor Union began to protest for better working conditions and hours, along with child labor laws. The Federal Government and the reformers had to act, and bring about reform through the nation. But the real question is whether or not they were effective in doing so. One of the main issues of the working industry that came to light was the terrible state of the meat packing industry.
As the United States started to expand and venture into a new and global age, it also started to intervene in other governments and marketplaces. In a new age known as “The Progressive Era”, so named for the many movements to take place during this time. As African American and women voters sought out their freedom to vote, and workers demanded more wagers and citizens demanded better politics, America was doing a great amount of changing. Beginning with American intervention in foreign countries, Aa perfect example is the, “Open Door Policy”, and the venture to keep free trade with China. As the U.S wanted to keep buying from and selling to the Chinese, it did everything possible to ensure this happened.
Democratic Socialism With this being a year for Presidential elections, there is a lot of campaigning going on by different candidates for the office of United States President. The republican party seemed to pick their candidate early in the race; however, the democratic party took a while longer to decide on their candidate. During the campaigning a certain term called Democratic Socialism, has been used by one of the candidates, a senator from Vermont named Bernie Sanders. The purpose of the following essay is to discuss the meaning of socialism, review recent history of socialism and macroeconomic effects on the economies discussed, and finally a review of how adopting socialism in the United States might appear. This informational paper is not designed to praise or condone Democratic Socialism, but instead to provide examples and possible scenarios of utilization of some of the Democratic Socialistic approach.

The progressive era was moderately effective from achieving social reform and lowering the influence of businesses over the people. An example would be the women's movement in 1800s. The women's suffrage movements were a constant struggle with lot’s of strikes and protests. Finally in 1920 the 19th amendment came to past allowing women to vote federally. Another example would be the passing of building heath codes, and fire safety regulations.

To innovate successfully a company should develop and stimulate the culture of innovations. When the clear vision for changes is created it should be communicated to the employees to involve them into the change process. Most people do not like changes. But in every company there are people who can become leaders for innovations.
