CHAPTER 3 LITERATURE REVIEW Asmamaw Gebresilassie presents paper on design and analysis of composite drive shaft. Which is also called as a propeller cardan shaft? This is design with an outside and inside diameter, which spin at a frequency operate by engine output. Drive shaft must operate in low and high power transmission of the fluctuating load. Due this fluctuate load it becomes fail and tends to stop power transmission. Thus it is important to make and design this shaft as per load requirement to avoid failure. In his project work an attempt is made to evaluate the suitability of composite material such as E-Poxy, E-Glass for the purpose of automotive propeller shaft application. A one piece composite shaft with the objective of minimizing the weight of the shaft, which is subjected to the constraints such as torque transmission, critical buckling torque and bending natural frequency. Dr K.Rambabu and R.P.Kumar Rompicharla present paper on to design and analysis a composite propeller shaft for power transmission. Substituting composite structures for conventional metallic structures has many advantages because of higher specific strength and stiffness of composite …show more content…

A propeller shaft is not limited to vehicles but also in many transmission applications can be used, in this paper, the aim is to replace a metallic drive shaft by a two-piece composite propeller shaft. Designing of a composite propeller shaft is divided in two main sections: design of couplings. design of the composite shaft In composite shaft design some parameters such as critical speed, adhesive joints static torque are studied; the behavior of materials is considered linear isotropic ,nonlinear isotropic for adhesive, for metal and orthotropic for composite shaft. Along with the design all the analyses are performed using (ANSYS). The results show optimum design of composite drive
