Islam’s prophet, Muhammad, lived a very interesting life. His early life was filled with many changes that would be hard for any kid. With the beginning of his new religion, he faced many hardships. His religion continued with new communities and followers. He died the second most important figure of his religion. His life was unlike any other.
Muhammad's early life wasn’t easy, for, it consisted of some struggles. He was born in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, in the year of 570 CE. Muhammad was the first and only son of Aminah bint Wahb, his mother, and Abdullah ibn Abdul- Muttalib, his father. In 610 CE, during one of his prayer retreats, Angel Gabriel spoke to him. He was instructed to recite verses that attributed to God. This was the beginning of Islam. He felt as if he was going crazy. He did not tell anyone until 612 CE. He began sharing his visions with his family and friends first, then to others. His wife, Khadijah, was the first to convert to Islam. His followers recorded his teachings in the Quran, Islam’s holy book. Muhammad said Meccans should not worship their many gods and that they should only worship the one true god, Allah, the Arabic word for “God.” He gained many followers, but some, most of Mecca’s elite, thought of Islam as a threat and were “displeased with Muhammad’s message.” The Meccans believed in something completely opposite from the Islam religion. Mecca tortured them and stopped doing business with them. They had to find a way to live, or they could die. The Muslims and Muhammad were threatened and were in danger. In 621 CE, a group of tribes from Yathrib came to Mecca to talk to Muhammad. They wanted his wisdom and council because they were suffering a violent war. The tribes heard his messages and converted to Islam. Yathrib became the first Islamic community. However, Muhammad and the Muslims were still in danger. In 622 CE, he and about two- hundred followers left Mecca and emigrated to Yathrib. This signified the beginning of the Muslim era. His goal was to build a Muslim city. Yathrib became better known as Medina, the City of the Prophet. During Muhammad’s time in Medina, he gained many followers and Islam grew. People were inspired by him. They lived peacefully for awhile. However, the Meccans went after the Muslims. The war lasted until 630 CE. In 630 CE, the Muslims “marched peacefully from Medina to Mecca, threw the idols out of the Kaaba, and rededicated it to Allah.” Muhammad went back to Medina to unite the Arabian Peninsula under Islam. There are many reasons why Islam spread so fast, however the main three reasons was trade, winning battles, and treaties. Trade Routes was an important part of how Islam grew so fast. They would trade perfumes, precious metals, incense, and silk filed through their town, headed North to coastal town.

Both religious figures were the same in that they grew up in poverty, a very basic humble upbringing, they also lived a life of persecution for their beliefs.
