Despite these amazing lesson plans, the students’ performance overall did not improve. Most school districts move to the four day school week in an effort to cut budget spending. Schools are funded by property taxes. In counties and districts where there is a high percentage of the population that are in poverty, there will be less funding for schools. If they want to fix the budget problem, they could redistrict the schools in a way that mixes middle class housing and people in
In addition, FEU Diliman might have problems on the shifting with the reasons stated below: ·FeuDiliman has a trimestral system. If they suddenly shift their academic calendar, April to July will be closed in business. ·If no income on April to July, FeuDiliman might increase the tuition fees of the upcoming students to compensate their loss during the months. ·Graduating students might be affected as they will have a break of four months unless they can obtain summer job to make income. ·K-12 graduate students will have a problem on enrolling to FeuDiliman as four months will be vacant.
My school switched to four days to cut spending. One day less of class means one day less of heating the school, fueling buses, feeding students and paying certain staff members. For a school desperate for funding, cutting out a day of the week is a reasonable option.
The alteration of the school schedule would also decrease productivity in students of all ages. It is exceedingly difficult for teenagers to focus for eight hours at a time, let alone ten. Dr. Iroise Dumontheil, author of research regarding the development of students, declared that it was not due to lack of motivation that students have trouble focusing in school. She stated, “it’s not the fault of teenagers that they can’t concentrate… Adolescents simply don’t have the same mental capacities as an adult” (A. Hill 2010). Accordingly, by asking students to remain in classes for an extra two hours a day, school systems are requesting more devotion from teenagers who cannot focus for lengthy periods of time due to their developing brains.
As what we have observed, not all courses and year levels are covered with this implementation. Many teachers and education experts wanted to impose back the five day school week scheme. This gives rise to many students especially those higher year level students that are having a hard time on managing their time doing school works complaining that the four day school week scheme should still be implemented. Although some teachers and education experts agree on a five day school week scheme, we believe that the four day school week scheme is still beneficial for Sillimanians because it reduces traffic and the cost for transportation and utility, it gives
Hunger and poverty have been staggering issues for many years without solid resolutions. As educational institutions, schools are in a pivotal position to accept responsibility in meeting these students nutritional needs. Poor students likely do not get regular healthy meals at home, so schools can make an important impact on their situations. Left unchanged, these poor students will continue to experience the myriad of life struggles. Will you make a commitment to be a change agent in making a difference in the nutritional health of this population, which can have a lifetime positive
I believe that year round schooling is bad.My reasons for that arethat year round schooling would cost schools to much money, the quality of instruction is more importantthe time spent in school, and for some kids it’s hard to pay eattention for long periods of time. I think that my reasons are reasonable.Because it already takes a good amount of money for schools to go for nine months of school.Making school all year round would make it hard for schools to pay for supplies, buses, salaries, heating, and air conditioning. Also research shows that longer school doesn’t increase the quality of how much kids are learning very much.Another thing is kids with ADHD can’t pay attention for long periods of time, and kids that are very active need to get fresh
Some companies and work places have adopted a four day work week to conserve energy and resources. Every day consists of a ten hour work day, should your school follow this model by extending the school day by two hours? If you think about all the benefits and the disadvantages to a four day school week would you want to do this? School is already long so why add another two hours, most students hardly get enough sleep with the hours we have now so how do schools expect us to stay up if we do not get enough sleep. Most students have after school activities they do so if we were to add two hours we would get out around five, and after school activities are usually two to three hours long but it depends on what you are doing so you literally would not get out till seven or eight at night.
Are Plaid Skirts and Button Down Shirts Really Necessary? Imagine having to wear a plaid skirt or a button down shirt and tie every single day of school. Being forced to wear a specific uniform to a public schools can severely impact students and their families. With the growing amount of public schools choosing to require uniforms, more and more people are speaking out against this action. Students should not be required to wear uniforms in public schools because they limit self-expression, they cause students to feel self-conscious, and they are expensive.
E-days better known as electronic days is a substitute for any day in which schools must be closed. Most public schools have a few days built into their calendar; they usually range between three to five days in which students and staff do not have to make up days at the end of the year. Do students really do very much work on those added days? According to one student, they just goof off on those days. Armed with this information maybe e-days would be a great option.
