2.1 Adolescents The first nineteen year period of a person’s life is considered as the golden opportunity that a human is receiving to make his/her life towards betterment. Adolescence is the transient period in human growth and development that occurs after childhood and before adulthood, from ages 10 to19years. So, it is a period of opportunity as well as a time of risk. It opens the window of opportunity to set the stage for healthy and productive adulthood while serious health problems could initiate serious adverse effects on health in the future (WHO, 2009) Although most adolescents make the stepping into adulthood in good health, some do not. Some young people are cut down by suicide, violence, traffic accidents or the consequences of unsafe abortion. Others have to cope with infectious or chronic disease. Some health problems affect them later in life, for example, obesity from poor eating and exercise habits, HIV-related illnesses, or lung cancer resulting from tobacco use (WHO, 2014). Adolescents make up 18% of the world’s population which are 1.2 billion in numbers. Of them, 90% are live in developing countries. Asia region provides shelter for more than 50% of the world’s adolescent populations (UNICEF, 2012). Depending on the stage of demographic and epidemiological transition the population proportion of adolescents varies. Sub-Sahara Africa is the region where adolescents make up the greatest proportion of the population. In the least developed
