Stephen Hawking believes, “The development of full artificial intelligence [AI] could spell the end of the human race.” Technology is like a drug, people become addicted and can't go without it. A study has shown that at least 84% of worldwide phone users say they couldn’t go a single day without their mobile device in their hand. And that 26% of car accidents are caused by phone usage. In brief, technology can destroy human. The similar theme between “The Veldt” and “A Sound of Thunder” are pronounced, and they deserve thorough scrutiny.
The No Child Left Behind Act passed in 2001 by the George W. Bush administration is an act that aimed to close the achievement gap in public schools in order to ensure no child is “left behind”. Many people who know about this act criticize its effectiveness and its methods of achieving this unreachable goal. Not everyone is aware of the details and strict requirements that were set once this program was started, so I will explore the pros, the cons, and the outcomes of this program.
has a human mind because the A.I. is creating to pass this exam. Nowadays, A.I. can do only a task that exactly decided, for example automated drive, doing chess game, or Siri in the iPhone. In addition, there is a problem of language. Even if the A.I has a great system of managing language, it is impossible to use language in true meaning. It is only the ability that human have. In other words, we need to expand language skills more and more because it is truth there is a A.I. which can learn from human brain. If you do not want to scan your brain by the computer, we have to get a brain which is too complicated to understand the mechanism.
Of Mice and Men is a short novella by, John Steinbeck, detailing on the fear society carries for the unknown. Steinbeck 's novella touched on a subject most do not explore but led us on a journey of self reflec. Starting from the beginning John was born on on February 27, 1902, in Salinas, California, and died 1968 writing his best-selling novel in 1937. It was in highschool that Steinbeck found his passion for writing then went to college at Stanford until 1925 but never did he graduate. After leaving Stanford and hitting rough spots on the way it was with Of Mice and Men Steinbeck was becoming well known in his time with his book becoming a popular and critical success, was selected by the Book-of-the-Month Club. Having went through its publication,
I agree with you that we need to change the way we teach because technologies got more advanced and it would be helpful if we ultilize it in our teaching routine. Technologies can also help students be more engage in the classroom instead of listening to boring lecture. This will help entertain students while improve education.
Technology is becoming extremely, in a way, invasive in our everyday lives and many movies have made sci-fi fantasies about technology/robots taking over, such as Terminator or Wall-E. Although, is that really the road we are heading down with the advances in technology and how much we use it? In a sense, maybe. In the article “Robot Invasion” by Charlie Gillis, he discusses the controversial argument about how robots are becoming complex enough to take over certain employment positions that are held by hard working humans. Gillis does not seem to take a side in the article, but instead, he argues both sides and gives some pros and cons for and against robots. Such as, increased efficiency for certain jobs such as assembly lines, but a decrease in job opportunities for humans. I agree with
This article fits with my research because it talks about the positive outcome artificial intelligence can have in the educational field. It is fairly simple to read and was helpful by proving the positive impact. It address the pros and cons about the educational AI that could be used to help students with courses they are having difficulties
Many people have different ways of approaching the topic of machines in our society today. Machines have certainly improved how individuals in the workforce produce their good or service; however, these such machines can lead to negative consequences. If our society does not limit our machine 's capabilities, it can lead to effects that cannot be understandable or controllable.
Artificial intelligence(AI) is a recent reality of technological advancement affecting human society. To analyze its effect on the workforce we will look back in history for technological disruptions and how they affected the workforce and compare and contrast to the way AI is currently impacting and will continue impacting the human workforce and other aspects of human society such as economics, politics and the general environment.
The Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, authored by Nick Bostrom and Eliezer Yudkowsky, as a draft for the Cambridge Handbook of Artificial Intelligence, introduces five (5) topics of discussion in the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and ethics, including, short term AI ethical issues, AI safety challenges, moral status of AI, how to conduct ethical assessment of AI, and super-intelligent Artificial Intelligence issues or, what happens when AI becomes much more intelligent than humans, but without ethical constraints? This topic of ethics and morality within AI is of particular interest for me as I will be working with machine learning, mathematical modeling, and computer simulations for my upcoming summer internship at the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) in Norco, California. After I complete my Master Degree in 2020 at Northeastern University, I will become a full time research engineer working at this navy laboratory. At the suggestion of my NSWC mentor, I have opted to concentrate my master’s degree in Computer Vision, Machine Learning, and Algorithm Development, technologies which are all strongly associated with AI. Nick Bostrom, one of the authors on this article, is Professor in the Faculty of Philosophy at Oxford University and the Director at the Future of Humanity Institute within the Oxford Martin School. Eliezer Yudkowsky, second author on this article, is a Research Fellow at the
Moreover, technology allows students to see the whole world as a resource with themselves being in charge of their destiny. It also benefits students because they have choices and opportunities to explore and share information to a greater extent than available in a traditional classroom.
In today’s society, a large amount of emphasis is placed on getting good grades. Day in and day out students are told that getting good grades is detrimental to their future. Unfortunately what many students are not told is that their intelligence is not defined by the marks they receive, but rather intelligence is defined by so much more than a letter on a report card.
I believe that the ability to invent, innovate and discover is what has propelled man to the echelons of success. Throughout my life, I have been driven by the desire to “create”, a capability that transcends the passive acquisition of knowledge. It is always the unknown path that has enthralled me more than known terrain. In a world where everything from fighter jets to elevators, interactive graphic displays to digital watches, is driven by computers, I found it difficult not to get fascinated by the technology involved. In view of such a global scenario I have decided to pursue my Masters degree in ‘Computer Science’, which I consider as a
Last but not least, technology is also helpful because it benefits educated people. This is a true fact because students can use online resources as a learning aid, and teachers can use different software and presentations to teach. For example, “technology is helping teachers to expand beyond linear, text-based learning and to engage students who learn best in other ways” (). Another example of technology helping educated people is, “its role in schools has evolved from a contained “computer class” into a versatile learning tool that could
Digital learning has various effects on the academic performance of the students and this digital learning can help the students to improve their performance in the classroom. Digital learning really makes the students work easier. Because of this, the students may have an advanced knowledge by easily searching their lesson using this technology. With this digital technology, it gives more information to the students to gain more knowledge about their school works. There are lots of technology that were integrated into the classroom that help the students learn with comfort, and that allows the student to gain and recall more information. With the use of digital learning, it will help the students to be more active engaged in their lesson,
